www.riverdalecity.com June 2016 NEWSLETTER MAYOR’S CORNER CHANGE OF COMMAND On June 30, 2016, Chief David Hansen, Riverdale City Police Chief, will retire from public service. Chief Hansen has been with the police department since 1985. He worked his way through the ranks and served in many assignments such as patrol, detective, narcotics strike force, DUI enforcement, sergeant, and lieutenant. Chief Hansen took his current post in July 2006. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. The Chief has served with the Riverdale City Department for his entire career that spans some thirty-one years. He has molded an exemplary department that is second to none. On behalf of the residents of Riverdale City, we congratulate Chief Hansen on his retirement and wish him the very best in the years to come! Lt. Scott Brenkman has been selected as the new Riverdale City Police Chief and will assume those duties on July 1, 2016. Lieutenant Brenkman has been with the Riverdale City Police Department since 1999. He served as a detective and was promoted to Sergeant in July 2003. Lt. Brenkman's main responsibility has been the patrol division. He worked as a patrolman for the North Ogden Police department for 4 years prior to coming to Riverdale. He has twenty-two years of law enforcement experience and is highly respected by the law enforcement community. We congratulate the new chief on his upcoming promotion and wish him the very best as he continues to serve. RIVERDALE MAVERIK COUNTRY STORE Riverdale City’s Planning Commission recently approved a preliminary site plan for a Maverik Country Store to be located on the southeast corner of the 900 West and Riverdale Road intersection. This is the site currently occupied by the Kia auto dealership. Maverik is planning to have this new store open by the end of the year. We are told that it will be just like the Maverik that recently opened in South Weber. Riverdale City businessmen, Homer and Phidia Cutrubus have done the legwork to make this one happen. Kudos to them for their efforts! I know they have gone to a lot of hard work and overcome more hurdles than expected for this project to materialize. RIVERDALE BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY Our new bike and pedestrian walkway, which will extend from the Parker Drive roundabout, under I-84 and by bridge over I-15 into Roy, is experiencing some minor delays. The bridge is currently under construction in Ohio and word is, that it is about 3 weeks behind. The bridge was scheduled to be completed by July 1 st and penalties will occur if that date is not met. The bids, for the entire project, have been opened and the low bid was more than planned for due to some unexpected costs. Additional funding will need to be requested from the county. The projected start date was May 16 th . We still expect the project will be completed before fall. Have a great summer! FIREWORKS LAUNCH LOCATION TO CHANGE

The Old Glory Days fireworks launch location will be moved to a new area of Riverdale Park this year. The new location is closer to the ball diamond area of the park. Please be aware that this will change past viewing locations. Below is the fallout map; this map illustrates the viewing areas, as well as the increase in parking at the Community Center. Vendors will not need to relocate this year, unlike in years past. All kids activities (games, trains, etc...) and play ground will run as normal throughout the day. The fallout zone will be clearly marked well in advance with chalk lines, signs, and barriers. The restricted fallout zone will be enforced two hours prior and during the firework display. Benefits to this move:

• Increase safe viewing area.

• Two emergency access points.

• No structures within the fallout zone.

• Vendors do not need to re-locate.

• Improved safety to citizens.

• No issues with I-84 and I-15.

• Secure firework set-up area. If you have any questions please contact Riverdale Fire Chief Jared Sholly at 801-394-7481.

This is a picture of an unexploded 3" mortar embedded in the roof of the Community Center a few years ago. If this would have went off, we would have lost the roof and maybe the entire building. The new location moves the Community Center and Fire Station out of the fallout zone.
