General InformationCOURSE HIGHLIGHTSThis course is designed to update physicians practicing in gastroenterology and hepatology and other health care providers on new approaches to the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Faculty will present data on multiple topics, including inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, general GI, motility and nutrition, pancreaticobiliary disorders, endoscopy and hepatology. Controversies in diagnosis and management will be analyzed in discussions and breakout sessions. Complex endoscopy cases and cutting-edge technology will be presented by expert endoscopists in a video forum.
In addition, two optional educational activities will be offered. A review course to help GI physicians prepare for board recertification will be held Thursday afternoon. On Saturday afternoon, new endoscopic techniques will be featured at a hands-on endoscopy workshop using state-of-the-art technology.
An audience response system and social media (Twitter™) will be utilized for interactive learning by the participants.
All general sessions will be available via webcast for participants who are unable to attend the course.
COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Discuss the role of selected advanced endoscopic procedures in patient care.
• Identify controversies in the management of patients with various gastroenterological disorders.
• Define the role of newer antiviral medications in the treatment of viral hepatitis.
• Compare and contrast the various treatment options available for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
INTENDED AUDIENCE This course is designed for practicing gastroenterologists, surgeons, GI fellows, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, individuals specializing in gastrointestinal endoscopy and primary care physicians with an interest in gastroenterology.

Using an ACG module approved for self-evaluation of medical knowledge credittowardAmericanBoardofInternalMedicineMaintenanceofCertification,faculty will answer and discuss questions covering key areas of gastroenterology. Participants will be able to complete their answer sheets for this module during the session.
Registrants are required to purchase the ACG’s Self-Assessment Program for Maintenance of Certification – 5th edition (2012). ($60 for ACG members; $80 for non-members). Once registered, participants will be contacted regarding how to purchasetherequiredmodule.AttendeesenrolledintheABIM’sMOCprogramwhosuccessfully complete this ACG module with a minimum passing score of 70% will be awarded20self-evaluationofmedicalknowledgepointsbyABIM.ParticipantsmustbeenrolledinABIM’sMaintenanceofCertificationprogramtoreceiveMOC creditfor completion of this module.

On Saturday, February 23, 2013, an optional hands-on endoscopy workshop will be offered. Attendees will rotate through six of eight stations, allowing 25 minutes per station. Prior to the course, attendees will rank the stations in order of preference and every effort will be made to accommodate each attendee’s top six selections. Pre-registration is required. Workshop attendance is limited. Assignments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.
