Definition of MAV

Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) is defined here as a small, portable flying vehicle which is designed for performing useful work. Or

MAV is a very small airborne autonomous vehicle that can operate inside a building using primarily

visual and other sensory information to navigate

Page 5: Mayfly 2

MAV Mission Micro Air Vehicles is capable of a wide range of useful military

missions and among them are;

Surveillance missions (over the hill) Infrared images of battlefields and urban areas (around the

corner)

Hostage rescue Mine detection in war zone

Damage assessment in war zones

Proximal reconnaissance

indoors or outdoors Targeting

Bio-Chemical Sensing Anti-Terrorism Action

TYPES OF MAV & THEIR MISSION

Fixed wing MAV for long endurance outdoors missions

Ornithopter MAVs for long endurance outdoors missions

Rotary MAVs for short endurance outdoor missions with hover

Entomopter MAVs for indoors missions

CHARACTERISTICS OF MAV No dimension exceeds 6 in (15 cm) Gross takeoff weight 100 grams

Loiter time of 60 minutes Speed 35-75 kmph

Payload capacity of at least 20 grams Ultra low noise Vision based obstacle avoidance Micro Range 10 km

Application Areas

MAV APPLICATION

AREAS

Airborne telecommunications relays in countries that lack required infrastructure

Traffic monitoring

Railroad safety

Fire and rescue

operations

Inspection of Industrial

emission into the

atmosphere

Wildlife surveys

Real-estate aerial

photography

Search for survivors

Road accident documentation

Wildlife surveys

Forestry

Communication Nodes/GPS

Power-line inspection

Geophysical surveys for oil and mineral companies

Border surveillanc

e

Snap inspection of pollution

Car TheftMonitoring

Gas monitoring over active volcanoes

Riot control

Page 10: Mayfly 2

MAV Application Area & Requirement

Riot Control observe the behaviour of the civilians observe the suspect facilities

The long range of operation is required as well as the ability to fly against strong opposing winds

Page 11: Mayfly 2

MAV Application Area & Requirement

Inspection of Industrial emission into the atmosphere

Capability to take sample of industrial emissions released to the atmosphere

Inspectors only need to stop relatively close to the site and take the sample as fast as possible

An ability to negotiate fast winds would be required

An ability to take off vertically would be advantageous

Page 12: Mayfly 2

MAV Application Area & RequirementSearch for survivors

Capable of finding survivors in cases of disasters

MAV could be used to penetrate the rubble to locate lives in such issues.

Ability for manoeuvrability will required (Entomopter MAVs )

Page 13: Mayfly 2

MAV Application Area & Requirement

Power-line inspection

There is a need to inspect various types of pipelines

This task can be assigned to different types of robots

MAVs will be able to perform such mission without minimal preparation even in complicated installations

high manoeuvrability would be necessary as well as good flight efficiency

Page 14: Mayfly 2

MAV Application Area & Requirement

Border surveillance

To patrol borders as means of preventing illegal immigrants and smugglers

More economical than to build a whole wall across the border

The long range of operation is required as well as the ability to fly against strong opposing winds

conclusion

Even though we have been able to achieve our target.

Nevertheless, there are still more room for further

research in this area since we believe there are more

areas we may have not taught off.

Thank s for your

audience!!!!!!!!!
