The Trestleboard
Howdy brothers!
I hope this Trestleboard finds everyone in good health and that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Christmas is coming up and is a time when a lot of people do some traveling to be with family. If you are planning on traveling please be careful. We are still in the process of getting people out to give us bids for the multiple things that apparently need to be done to the lodge. I’m sorry brothers, but when I put forth my budg-et for this year we anticipated a higher than normal budget for maintenance but not as much as we are going to be spending. With older buildings more and more things break and this just happens to be the year that most of the stuff is either breaking or at the point where there is no reason to wait to fix it. Since we are now talking about the budget, our raffle is not doing well at all. I had hoped that we would sell most of our tickets at Family Day but as all of you know Family Day was cancelled due to weather again this year. With the cost of the tickets being what they are, in order for the Lodge to break even on the cost to make the tickets, the gun, and the schol-arships we need to sell 900 tickets out of the 1000 that were ordered. I don’t have the exact numbers in front but we’ve only sold around 100 tickets. If you know someone who is into guns and would want to help out please come get some tickets and sell a couple. I know that most of us know most of all the same people, and them all being involved in Masonry, but we each need to step up and help out the lodge with the raffle sales. Game night for December is going to be cancelled because of the Holidays and will resume in January.

From the West Ben West — Senior Warden
As I was reading through my November/December Masonic magazines I found an article based on going from total light to total darkness. Wow what a concept! The closest memory I could come up with in my life was a moment in time as a small child about six year of age. In those days there was no inside plumbing; oh maybe in the kitchen; but absolutely not a bathroom, so that meant it was only a thunder mug or if it was more urgent than that it was a trip to the out-house; and if there was no yard light that meant a trip in total darkness lit only by the stars in the sky or if I was lucky a moon lit night to light my path. When I was initiated as an EA in the early seventies, my class consisted of six or seven as I re-member it. That was the Railroaders lodge in Cheyenne. Wyoming and most of us were referred to as the traveling men. So we had a limited amount of time at home and it was necessary for us to be able to study on our own. So we would meet at our instructors home for a few hours once or twice a month and he would teach us how to read the black book and once we had a good grasp of the book we were ready to do our memory work in the many hours of time we had away from home. That was the life of plenty, plenty of men wanting to know how they could become a Mason I mean. I would call that a time of light In Masonry, at least in my gener-ation it was. Today at Tabernacle we just have a trickle candidates coming through in a year’s time. At that rate of growth we will have to close the doors in a short period of time. Or putting it an other way that rate of growth wont keep up with the death rate of our member-ship. I would relate that to darkness in Masonic membership growth. One of the things I like to do is to wear my Masonic jewelry where ever I go and every once in a while someone will ask me what the insignia means on my lapel or my finger. Just last Sunday I was shaking hands with people I had not seen before and found out the young lady I was shak-ing hands with, her grandfather had been a Mason. A good way to get a conversation going. I think there seems to be a spark interest returning to Masonic life here at Tabernacle Lodge, or at least I hope so. Get out there and shake some hands and talk to people about Mason-ry. Let’s get the fire burning again in this generation. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and as always God Bless.

From the South Bill Jacobs — Junior Warden
Greetings from the South,
Brothers as some of you already know the subject of the raffle came up at our stated meeting and we are not getting enough tickets sold to cover our expenses for this.
I am asking all of you, if you know a friend or neighbor who is a sportsman or anyone who would be interested in buying a raffle ticket please contact any of the officers of the lodge for tickets.
If we can get more of the members selling tickets we may be able to avoid going in the hole for our scholarship fund this year. Any and all help is appreciated.
