It’s hard to believe our 50th Anniversary Year is winding down, and in a few short weeks we will be planning for year 51!!! WOW! Time truly does fly by! We have a few celebratory events in our midst that will bring our birthday year to a grand finale!

April 25, 2019 members were fortunate to participate in an exciting event planned by this year’s amazing program chairs, Sharon Pope and Sharyl Weber! Hats and High Tea! It was a treat to see the beautiful outfits with and without hats worn by our members! What an incredible experience to see some of Shane Walker’s award winning hats from the Mad Hatters Tea! While listening to tunes belted out by the band SourBridges from Austin, attendees feasted on barbecue and all the trimmings provided by Baker’s Ribs which the owner, Joe Duncan, donated. To show our appreciation for the 139 paid reservations, consider dining at Baker’s Ribs, 6516 Northwest Highway. Tell Joe thank you from NWC! Kudos to Phyllis and Joe Farragut who provided the perfect venue for this relaxing and fun event! Cathy Camalier and Sherry O’Hara, FUNdraising co-chairs, meticulously planned every detail to provide an unforgettable evening for all!

AND…the grand finale event is the culminating meeting on May 23rd. The location itself is a treat; the UTD Alumni Center (Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center - Richardson) with its glass walls in a beautiful park setting. But what happens inside the building will be most memorable. We will be celebrating the convergence of two of our beneficiaries: the University of Texas at Dallas and the Callier Center for Communication Disorders located on the UTD campus. During the event, NWC will be awarding scholarships to both the University of Texas at Dallas and the Communities Foundation of Texas recipients. Presentations to the NWC Endowed Scholarship at UTD, the NWC Scholarship at Communities Foundation of Texas, and the Callier Center represent our year- long effort of campaigning and fundraising. We are ecstatic to present Callier with a gift of $250,000. This effort will be matched by Callier’s gift of $250,000 allowing us $500,000….yes half a million dollars to establish the NWC Endowment for Callier Patient Care which will become a permanent endowment in honor of NWC’s 50th Anniversary Year. This is a phenomenal accomplishment for NWC, and I hope every member will be there for the serendipitous moment to celebrate with our beneficiaries in such a lovely venue culminating the work of many who have made our 50th year an extraordinary success!

Thank you to all who continue to work hard behind the scenes to make NWC the exceptional organization it is!

What a memorable year it has been for our 2018 new member class. Starting their rookie season in August, they collected and then delivered school supplies to Carolyn Bukhair Elementary and Mendenhall Elementary. The ladies handled their first responsibility with the greatest of ease. In between attending NWC meetings, volunteering, and learning to play Mah Jongg, compliments of Vaughn, Mary Kennedy, and Suzanne Caruso, the new members immediately started planning the Sherry Party...and what a party it was! Time to relax a bit to ring in the new year, and then on to celebrate our Birthday Bash with all of the ladies of Northwood Woman’s Club. This spring we have enjoyed the opportunity to share time together to bowl, tour the Bush Library, and sip tea. As our club prepares for the last Northwood meeting of our 50th year, Nancy Dent and Jan Ledbetter would like to applaud our new members and thank them for their dedication, service, and especially their friendship. From rookies to veterans, the new members of 2018 are pure class!

Congratulations to our 2018 new member, Cara Mendelsohn for being elected to the City Council representing District 12 of Dallas.
