It's Official No Smokine Is Here May Lst!!
Hello everyone. You probably have heard a ton of rumors about the new no smoking legislation that the Stateof Michigan has enacted. This article will try to provide a clearer understanding of how our club is affected. OnDecember 18th 2009, Governor Grandholm did indeed sign Public Act 188 (no smoking in public places) intolaw. This law takes effect May 1st 2010. The Executive Board met on Monday February 1st and came to thefollowing conclusions
What changes will this law cause to happen at our club:
These are the facts:. The Casino Club is not exempt from this law.r There will be no smoking inside of the building anywhere or within 10 feet of any entrance beginning on
May 1st 2Q10.. We must get rid of all ashtrays and smoking paraphernalia from inside of the building.. We must train our employees in the proper method they are to use to handle club members who forget
and light up inside of the building. We are legally obligated to enforce the provisions of this law.. We must post no smoking signs at the bar and our entrances to the club.o The fine for first offense is $100 to the smoker and up to $500 for the club. Goes higher from there right
up to losing our license.r A deck or patio is considered a part of the club and smoking is not allowed.. We must update our club rules to contain smoking policy information.
As you can see this is going to be a big change for the membership of the Casino Club. There are rumors ofthe Michigan Beverage Association filing a law suit to get decks and patios allowed, so far these are justrumors. The link below is the best place to read the summary of how the law is intended to work as it waspresented to the legislature when the law was enacted.http:i/www.legislature.mi.gov/documents/2009-2010/billanalysis/Houseipdf/2009-HLA-4377-7 .pdf
