Vol. 7, Issue 30 May 9, 2016 “B”e “W”ith It Bulletin Bierbusse/Wolinski 6th Grade News Vocabulary Study and Homework We will have a vocabulary quiz over Tangerine list 2A on Friday. Mandatory Pictured Rocks MeetinG There will be a mandatory meeting for all 6th grade parents of students attending the Pictured Rocks Trip. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 10th at 5:30 p.m in the CMS Commons . Families will receive an itinerary, detailed packing list, and expectations. We are also asking students to bring TWO pair of shoes that are appropriate for hiking due to the excessive amount of water. There will also be a meeting for chaperones immediately following. NWEA TESTING SCHEDULE Students have completed the MSTEP testing. This week, they will begin the final phase of NWEA testing for the year. Math NWEA May 12 Language NWEA May 13 Reading NWEA May 16 HUMAN GROWTH CLASSES The Human Growth classes for 6th grade students will be on Tuesday. May 17th and Thursday, May 19th. Ancient Civilization Research Papers The research papers are due to day. We are proud of the students for the hard work that they put forth during the entire process. Also, thank you to all of the parents who provided support at home. Classroom Corner

MATH: Each day your child will receive a math assignment. Please check your child’s classroom calendar to stay informed on what lesson your child is completing.  SOCIAL STUDIES: In Social Studies, sixth graders will continue to examine the five themes of geography: Location, Place, Movement (of people and goods), Human­Environment Interaction and Regions. Students have started to learn about various economic systems throughout the world. This unit will also allow students to examine the United States role in the global economy. STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A STUDY GUIDE THIS WEEK FOR THE ECONOMICS TEST SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, MAY 20th.   SCIENCE: In Science, students will continue to learn about weather and climate. Throughout this unit, students will learn the similarities and differences between weather and climate and look closely at the effects that the ocean has on both. They are also expected to know about the atmosphere, geosphere, and hydrosphere as they relate to weather and climate.    ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS: Students will continue to read our book club novel titled Tangerine by: Edward Bloor. Throughout this novel study, students practice utilizing reading strategies while analyzing plot structure, characterization, literary devices and author’s craft. .   40 BOOK READING CHALLENGE: Our challenge as a middle school teaching team is for all students in grades 6­8 to independently read 40 books this school year. Students will have access to our school library and classroom books Monday through Thursday from 8:20­8:45. Students are expected to be reading at home daily for 30 minutes.
