    ARLINGTON, Texas - Char

    Hammel of Las Vegas defeated

    defending champion Janine

    Primrose of Gardnerville, Nev.,

    in back-to-back matches to win

    the 2010 United States Bowling

    Congress Senior Queens title.

Hammel came out of the con-

tenders bracket with one loss for

the right to face Primrose for the

title at the El Paso Convention

and Performing Arts Center. Asthe undefeated player, Primrose

had to lose twice in the title

    match.

    Hammel won the opening three-

    game total pins match, 590-554,

    to force a deciding match,

    which Hammel easily won

    705-520.

"I just wanted to make one

shot at a time and didn't want

to have to think about bowl-

    ing six games to win,"

    Hammel said. "I'm so excit-

ed. A lot of hard work has

    gone into this."

    A poker dealer at Green

    Valley Ranch in Las Vegas,

Hammel said she had a sub-par performance in the USBC

    Women's Championships

    right before the Senior

    Queens began. However, she

    bowled well in qualifying

and earned the No. 3 seed for

    the double-elimination,

    match-play bracket.

"I didn't bowl very well in

    nationals, but I picked up

    steam once qualifying began

    for the Senior Queens,"

    Hammel said. "Once I got

    comfortable with the venue, it

    all came together for me."

    Hammel won four matches

    in the winners bracket before

being handed her first loss ofthe tournament by Primrose,

    657-647. Hammel then defeat-

ed USBC Hall of Famer and

    2009 Senior Queens runner-

    up Dana Miller-Mackie of

    Albuquerque, N.M., for the right

    for another shot at Primrose.

    In the deciding match, Hammel

got out to an early lead of 30 pins

after the first game and never

    looked back, easily defeating the

    defending champion.

For Primrose, it was an end to

her bid to become the first repeat

    champion in Senior Queens histo-

ry. She went undefeated at last

year's Senior Queens and won her

first five matches before droppingthe pair of matches to Hammel.

    The victory earned Hammel a

check for $3,500, a tiara, pendant

    and trophy, while Primrose

    earned $1,800 for second place.

EL PASO, Texas - Kelly Kulick proved she could beat

the men earlier this year and last week she came out on

top against a field of the top women bowlers in the

world, earning her second United States Bowling

    Congress Queens title.

The Union, N.J., native climbed the five-player

stepladder, winning four consecutive matches, and

defeating top seed Tennelle Milligan of Arlington,

Texas, 232-188, to win the Queens at the El Paso

    Convention and Performing Arts Center.

Kulick, the No. 4 seed, made sports history when she

became the first woman to win a title on the

Professional Bowlers Association Tour in January by

defeating Chris Barnes, 265-195, to win the PBA

Tournament of Champions. On Wednesday, she added

her third career major women's title to her resume.

"I feel like I've been carrying a four-leaf clover in my

pocket and have had luck on my side lately," said

Kulick, who earned $25,000 for the victory. "This has

been the ride of a lifetime."

    The 2007 Queens champion and 2003 U.S. Women's

Open champion, Kulick got ahead early in the match

and never looked back against Milligan. Kulick threw

four consecutive strikes from the fourth to the seventh

frame, while Milligan failed to double in that stretch.

"It's heartbreaking for Tennelle because I know what

a stellar performance she had all week," said Kulick,

who was the runner-up to Liz Johnson at the 2009

Queens. "I just had a good performance all week long

as well and it was just about getting to the show and

    seeing what would happen."

"I was excited, nervous, pumped up and ready to go

out there and put on a good show," said Milligan, who

earned $15,000 for second. "I just went out there and

overthrew the ball. Once I calmed down, everything

fell into place, but when you are bowling a game on

TV, it's the fastest game of your life."

In reaching the title match, Kulick took out USBC

Hall of Famer Anne Marie Duggan of Edmond, Okla.,

226-176. With the third place finish and a $10,000

prize, Duggan became the fifth woman to earn $1 mil-lion in her career, joining Wendy Macpherson, Tish

Johnson, Aleta Sill and Leanne Barrette-Hulsenberg.

Kulick escaped with a victory over Missy Bellinder

of Fullerton, Calif., 220-212, in the match before when

Bellinder left a pocket 7-10 split in the final frame.

Kulick threw the last five strikes to force Bellinder to

mark in the 10th frame, which she failed to do.

"I made an adjustment on that lane after I had the

messenger take out the 10 pin on the previous shot,"

Bellinder said. "I moved a little bit right and squared

up. Off my hand I thought I threw it perfect, and that's

    all you can really do."

To open the championship round, Kulick defeated

Michelle Feldman of Auburn, N.Y., 186-170. After

Kulick left the 4-7-10 split in the ninth frame and

spared in the 10th, Feldman had a chance to throw two

strikes and a five count to win, but left a 10 pin on herfirst shot.

Kelly Kulick won the 2010 United States Bowling

Congress Queens with a 232-188 victory over Tennelle

Milligan at the El Paso Convention and Performing

    Arts Center.

    NIAGARA FALLS Delegates

    representing New York State local

    bowling associations Saturday

    (April 10) unanimously gave the

    Empire State United States

    Bowling Congress Bowling

    Association authorization to pur-

sue a merger with the New York

    State Womens and New York

    State Youth associations.

This is an historic day for the

sport of bowling in New York

State, said Mike Pettinella,Empire State USBC BA president.

For some time now, the women

    and youth associations have wait-

ed for this merger vote to happen.

Speaking for our board of direc-

tors, we are eager to work with

leaders of the women and youth

    associations to form an organiza-

tion that will efficiently and effec-

tively serve all bowlers in our

    great state.

Voting by 59 delegates came at

    the Empire State USBC BAs

    annual meeting at Antonios

    Banquet & Conference Center,

located at the Quality Inn, on

Niagara Falls Boulevard. The annual meeting was part of

a busy weekend for the state asso-

    ciation. The 86thannual New

    York State Open Championships

got under way Friday night with

the team event at Rapids Bowling

    Center in Niagara Falls and

    Saturday morning with doubles

    and singles at Tonawanda

Bowling Center, and a Hall of

    Fame Ceremony was conducted at

    Antonios on Saturday evening.

    Professional bowling greats

Mark Roth of Fulton and Tom

    Baker, formerly of Buffalo, along

    with amateur standout Mike

Faliero of West Seneca and propri-etor Jack Moran of Canandaigua

were inducted into the state Hall

    of Fame.

    All received standing ovations

from the gathering of about 80

    people, with the largest applause

given to Roth, who suffered a

stroke last year and is partially

paralyzed on his left side. In his

    speech, Roth, a Brooklyn native,

    recalled that his early triumphs

took place in New York State.

Roth is a 34-time champion on

the PBA Tour and four-time PBA

Player of the Year. He was accom-

    panied by his wife, Denise.

    Moran is the proprietor of

    Roseland Bowl in Canandaigua

    has received numerous honors for

    his work with the Bowling

    Proprietors Association of

    America and other bowling indus-

    try organizations. He called his

    induction a privilege and an

honor noting that his focus has

always been to do what he could

    to help promote the bowling

    industry.

    Faliero has numerous collegiate,

    state and national amateur tourna-

ment titles on his resume, includ-

    ing the International Eliminator in

    2000 (with a $100,000 payday)

    and the Greater Buffalo USBC

Masters in 2007. He pointed to his

family, many of whom were inattendance, as members of his

team the ones who helped him

    make his dream a reality.

    Baker, a multiple champion on

the PBA regular and senior tours,

was unable to attend due to bowl-

    ing commitments. His award was

    accepted by longtime friend, Dave

    Miller of Buffalo.

    This years inductees now join

    the other 119 individuals who

    have been grandfathered in from

    the former New York State

    Bowling Association Hall of Fame

to the ESUSBCBA Hall of Fame.

Fran Bax of Niagara Falls, a state

jurisdictional director, chaired theHall of Fame committee.

    Barbara Armstead of Dallas,

    USBC Eastern Corridor regional

manager, was among the guests at

    the annual meeting. She com-

    mended the state association for

    its remarkable turnaround over

    the past 10 months.

    This is a wonderful and

    momentous occasion for New

York State, she said. I applaud

everyone who has played a part in

    what has been accomplished in

such a short time. I will be sharing

the good news her in my travels to

    other associations in my region.

In other developments at theannual meeting:

    Jim Maguire of

    Massapequa was re-elected to a

    three-year term as the Empire

    State USBC BAs second vice

    president. Maguire chairs the

    associations audit/finance com-

    mittee.

    All 10 jurisdictional

    directors up for re-election also

    were returned to office Robert

    Kaverman of Jamestown, Nancy

    Walczyk of Boston (Erie County),

    Roger Buckman of Honeoye Falls,

    Dennis ODonnell of Auburn,

    Mark Ames of Homer, Scott

    McLaughlin of Malone, Willard

    Nethaway of Schenectady, Robert

    Tyler of Highland (Hudson

    Valley), Daniel Solimine of New

    Rochelle and Ronald Bevilacqua

    of Lawrence (Long Island).

    COLUMBUS, Ohio In a cham-

    pionship match that featured two

    Professional Bowlers Association

    (PBA) Hall of Famers, Wayne

    Webb defeated Mark Williams

264-253 to win the PBA Senior

    Columbus Open at HP Lanes.

    Striking in the first

    four frames, Webb

    held a commanding

    lead in the fourth

    frame but let

    Williams back in the

match after throwinga 3-6-7-10 split in

    the fifth frame which

    he failed to convert.

    Williams, of

    Beaumont, Texas,

    went on to throw

    eight consecutive

    strikes to finish the

    match but Webb was

    able to get back on

    track and finished

    with seven consecutive strikes to

    pull out the win.

The win gave Webb his third

career Senior Tour title to go along

with his 2008 and 2009 Senior

U.S. Open titles, and came afterfinishing second in the season-

    opening Senior Dayton Classic.

I had him by 25 or 30 pins early

in the match and I was disappoint-

ed I gave him an opportunity to

get back into it, said the 52-year-

old Webb. Fortunately I was able

to answer Marks strikes. If you

give someone like Mark an open-

ing like that chances are its not

going to turn out the way you want

    it to.

    In the semifinals, Webb defeated

Hall of Famer Dave Soutar of

    Bradenton, Fla., 258-212, and

    Williams defeated Tom Carter of

    Rockford, Ill., 245-206, to

    advance to the championship

    match. Soutar has now competed

in a record 233 career Senior Tour

    events. Webb, also a 20-time

    PBA Tour titlist, recently moved

    to Columbus to open Wayne

    Webbs Columbus Bowl. Because

    of his commit-

    ments to the

    center he does

    not plan to

    bowl again

    until the PBA

    Senior U.S.Open and

    United States

    B o w l i n g

    C o n g r e s s

    Senior Masters

    tournaments in

    Las Vegas in

    June.

    Id love

    nothing better

    than to keep

    bowling out here especially with

how well Im bowling right now,

but my immediate priority is the

    bowling center, Webb said.

    Several Senior Tour scoring

records were broken in the tourna-ment.

    Reigning PBA Senior Player of

the Year Ron Mohr Mohr of Eagle

River, Alaska set new marks for

    16-game qualifying pinfall with

    4,243, eight-game qualifying pin-

fall with 2,160, and most 300

games in a tournament by an indi-

    vidual with three. Nineteen 300

games were bowled in the tourna-

    ment breaking the previous record

    of 17.

    Tom Baker and Larry Graybeal,

who tied for the final match play

qualifying spot, set the 32nd place

cut score record of 3,717 for 16

    games.

Nancy Chapman Nancy Chapman, a member

    of the United States Bowling

    Congress Hall of Fame, passed

    away Wednesday, April 28, at

    the age of 80.

    The Oneida, Wis., native was

    inducted into the Womens

    International Bowling

    Congress (now USBC) Hall of

    Fame for meritorious service in

    2002.Chapman was appointed a

    WIBC director by former pres-

ident Alberta E. Crowe in 1974,

    an appointment she said

    knocked her socks off. She

    would serve on the WIBC

    board for 25 years, including

    positions as 5th, 6th and 7th

vice president and also as ser-

    geant-at-arms. She was a

    WIBC Member Emerita.

    Chapman, who worked at

    Wisconsin Bell for 30 years,

also loved to write about the

sport. She won her first writing

award for a column in 1964.

She founded the WisconsinWomen Bowling Writers in

1975, and served as editor of

    the Wisconsin Womens

    Bowling Association state pub-

    lication, Bowling Action.

    She was active with the

    National Women Bowling

    Writers (NWBW) and served

    as president from 2004-06. She

    earned the Mary Janetto Award

    (outstanding promotion of local

    bowling) and the Jo Ettien

    Lieber Award (distinguished

    service to the game of

    American tenpins) from the

    NWBW.

She also served on theBowling Writers Association of

    America board.

    Before her induction into the

    WIBC Hall of Fame, Chapman,

    who promoted entries for the

    WIBC Championships for

many years, recalled the time in

1983 when her efforts led to

    nearly 500 northern Wisconsin

bowlers deciding to head to Las

    Vegas for the tournament. The

    large response required that a

Boeing 747 be chartered for the

    group and the turnout attracted

    media attention because a plane

that size had never flown into

Green Bay.Chapman is a member of the
