Dear Apostles of Divine Mercy, The month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother. She chose to appear to three children at Fatima on May 13, 1917, and asked the children to pray the Rosary. The Feast Day of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament and the Feast Day of our Lady of Fatima is celebrated on May 13. The Feast Day of the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth is on May 31. This month’s Newsletter is entitled “100 years, Mary Appeared in Fatima!”. Time passes so quickly. It is hard to comprehend that already one hundred years have passed since our Blessed Mother appeared in Fatima to the three children, Lucia dos Santos, 10, her cousin Francisco, 8, and Jacinta Marto, 7. She appeared six times in a row, beginning May 13, ending on October 13, 1917. Our Blessed Mother came during the horrors of World War 1, which Pope Benedict XV called the “suicide of Europe.” It was Pope Benedict who, on May 5, 1917, ordered that “Queen of Peace, pray for us” be added to the Litany of Loreto. On that day, he placed the peace of the world into our Lady’s hands. Our Blessed Mother responded and at midday on May 13, in a field called Cova de Iria, in a rural countryside of Portugal, she appeared to the three children who were pasturing sheep. She asked them to offer up all their sufferings to the Lord for the sake of poor sinners. She told them that they would have much to suffer. “Say the Rosary every day to bring peace to the world and an end to the war.” She told them to return to the Cova on the 13th of the month for the following five months. On June 13, she told the children to keep praying the Rosary. She also asked them to add after each mystery, “O my Jesus forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Take all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.” The children were very much persecuted and suffered very much because the Blessed Mother had chosen them to reveal to the world what she wanted. Our Lady also told Lucia that Francisco and Jacinta would soon be taken to Heaven, but that she would remain on earth to establish devotion to Mary’s Immaculate Heart. (Francisco and Jacinta died in 1919 and 1920 respectively. Lucia lived to the age of 97 and died in 2005). We still need to continue to pray the Rosary and ask our Blessed Mother for her constant help and for peace in the world

today. by Shirley Oleskiw, EADM, Director

OUR EADM CENTRE Let us thank God for the promise of spring. We’ve enjoyed a very mild winter and for this we are grateful. During the next couple of months, Mary’s Garden will begin to be refurbished to make it a peaceful and prayerful place. Our little

Grotto to Our Lady of Fatima will be very special this year to rep-resent her 100 years of her visit at Fatima. On Saturday, May 13, we will have special prayers to Our Lady of Fatima in our Shrine and Mary’s Garden. In July and August, on her Feast days, we will extend our gratitude to her by singing hymns and reciting the Ro-sary in the garden. At our Shrine to St. Faustina, daily Adoration of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament continues here in our Chapel. Our Lord waits for people to come and spend one hour with Him. Do not pass up this opportunity to sit at the feet of Jesus and ask for graces for yourself and others. On April 6, we celebrated our 16th Year of EADM and our 10th Anniversary of St. Faustina’s Shrine with Adoration in our Chapel. We thank God for His goodness. We thank God for the beautiful celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday. We thank all the people who came to celebrate with us. This was a great opportunity to grow in holiness. The 52 page booklet, The Miracles at EADM, is available for $7.00 plus $3.00 for postage. We continue to encourage our members to study the Diary by using our Cenacle booklets. In this Diary, St. Faustina tells us how Jesus instructed her and us about His mercy. On May 14, Mother’s Day, as we pray and honor our earthly mothers, we must also remember our Blessed Mother and ask for her intercession in our lives. We are offering another pilgrimage to Guadalupe on January 10-17, 2018. The details of the pilgrimage can be found on page 12 of this newsletter.

On April 26, we will begin a 4, 9 day Novena (36 days) to pray

to Our Lady of Fatima, in thanksgiving for the 100 years since

she appeared in Fatima.

The Monthly Mass will be held on May 11 @7:00 p.m. as the

priests will be on retreat the first week of May. Rosary at 6:30

pm. Novena to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament begins May

My Visit to Fatima The day after the October apparition, we always remembered and talked about the Blessed Mother apparitions in Fatima, because my mother was born on October 14, 1917. As I grew older, and later in life, I had a great desire to visit Fatima, and my dream became a reality in March of 1996. I, my friend Angela and my daughter Cynthia, began a pilgrimage of a seven week journey through 17 countries to the Holy Shrines of Europe. Our journey began through, England, Germany, and Italy. We travelled by plane, trains and buses until we joined the Euro Bus in Rome. After several days in Rome we were on our way to France and then to Madrid, Spain. At Madrid we left our Euro Bus and caught a bus to Portugal, which eventually took us to Fatima. We did not know what to expect and we had no knowl-edge of the place. Our Blessed Mother took care of everything. Across the street from the Shrine to Our Lady of Fatima was a hotel called the Catholica, where we took accommodations for 4 days. The visit to the Shrine was truly overwhelming. We entered the main square of the Basilica which had been constructed in 1928, and consecrated on October 7, 1953. Its 15 altars were dedicated to the 15 mysteries of the Rosary. The paintings on the high altar depicted the message of Our Lady to the three shepherd children. On either side of the altar lay the tombs of Francisco and Jacinta. There was also located a Chapel of Adoration. The Chapel of Apparitions was in the heart of the Sanctuary, and was the first edifice constructed in the Cova de Iria, after the apparitions. Every morning we would walk over to the Church for Mass, pray the Rosary and visit the large Cova de Ira gardens in which the children used to shepherd the sheep. It was a wonderful experience to be able to ponder and walk and pray the stations and see other sites. We visited the two homes of the little shepherds and by a miracle, Jacinta’s brother’s son showed us the house where Francisco lived. We experienced many miracles at this Holy Shrine. I will mention another one. There were many shops in the area and I wanted to buy several large tablecloths, but they were all very expensive. I told our Blessed Mother that I would buy them if they were only $10.00 each. When we went to the area of Francisco’s house, there was a shop where we really did only pay $10.00 for each of the three tablecloths that I bought. I still have them to this day, which I use at Christmas and Easter. There are no words that could describe the peacefulness and holiness of Fatima, and I will never forget my visit there. by Shirley Oleskiw

Queen of Peace, Pray for Us

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Fatima. Between May and October of 1917, Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children in the Cova near the town of Fatima, Portugal. She delivered a very important group of messages that we still need to heed today. The children had experienced supernatural visions the year before when an angel visited them three times in 1916. He called himself the Angel of Peace and taught them the first of these Fatima prayers, also known as the Pardon Prayer, that spring: My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee! I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not

hope and do not love Thee. He later referred to himself as the Angel of Portugal and taught them the second of our Fatima prayers covered here in his last appearance that autumn, amazingly, while leaving a Host (the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ) and a golden chalice both suspended in mid-air!

Most Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit- I adore Thee

profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul

and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of

the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and

indifferences whereby He is offended. And through the infinite

merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of

Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners.

On May 13, 1917, Mary was dressed in white and was encircled with light. She told the children to pray the Rosary for peace for the world and to make sacrifices for sinners. On the second apparition June 13, she opened her hands to reveal a light so radiant that “we saw ourselves immersed in God,” again, according to Lucia, and she told the children to keep praying the Rosary. On July 13, Our Lady gave a secret in three parts, that included a vision of hell and She foretold events that would come to pass. She also asked them to add after each mystery, “O my Jesus forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Take all

souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.” In August all was in a turmoil, the children arrested and missed the apparition, and then Our Lady appeared to them a few days later on a hill a short distance from their homes. She told them to pray much and that (Cont’d on page 6)

Page 6: May 4 - 12

Page 6

they would suffer much and that God had a special plan for each of them. She called all to conversion and repentance. In September, she repeated her instruction to pray the Rosary for peace and asked the children to promote the First Saturdays and a devotion to Her Immaculate Heart. She also taught them several important prayers. “Oh my Jesus, I offer this for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins

committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”

On October 13, She promised a sign from Heaven. After Mary’s first appearance to Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta, word of the visions spread rapidly. The crowd of curiosity seekers and the genuinely devout increased with reports of each apparition until the final one on October 13, in which some 70,000 people at the Cova da Iria witnessed what became known as the Miracle of the

Sun. It was a rainy day. The sun spun, changed color, and returned to its place and dried the wet ground. People fell on their knees, and begged for forgiveness. Our Lady told all those present that she wished a chapel to be built there in her honor.“I am the Lady of the Rosary...People must amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins. They must not offend our Lord anymore, for He is much offended.” Indeed, as World War I raged on, Our Lady asked the children to pray the Rosary daily for world peace. She further requested that they bear sufferings in reparation for the many offenses committed against her Son, as well as for the conversion of sinners. She appealed for prayer and penance from all of us as well. She also requested that people pray for the conversion of Russia and to be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart. We can also seek to serve our Lord better by imitating His Mother’s virtues and practicing the First Saturday,s devotion. We need to make sacrifices to save souls. Our Lady said at Fatima “wars are a punishment from God for sin!”When the possibility of “the annihilation of nations” from nuclear war suddenly seemed frighteningly real, we need to pray the Rosary as never before. Her main message was without God, humanity walks in darkness, and we are called to bring light into the world.

We need to ask ourselves at the present time, how great will the

darkness become, before we see again? by Shirley Oleskiw

Tenth Anniversary Celebration

of the Shrine to St. Faustina & Adoration The evening of April 6, 2017, we celebrated the Tenth Anniversary of the opening of the Shrine to St. Faustina and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in our Chapel. It is also our Sixteenth Anniversary of the beginning of the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy Apostolate.

Very Rev. James Owolagba celebrated the Mass. After the Mass EADM hosted a reception with a 10th Anniversary cake, in the meeting room downstairs, and then viewed the pictures of the 2017 pilgrimage to Guadalupe. Jesus, our Divine Mercy, has truly blessed the Eucharistic Apostles of the Divine Mercy. We thank Very Rev. James Owolagba, our Spiritual Director of EADM, who have guided us over the past year. It was a great gift to have our Shrine to St. Faustina where people can come and pray at the feet of Jesus. We have been encouraging people to study the Diary, and come to have a clearer understanding of what Jesus is demanding of us. We have also been stressing the importance of praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet, unceasingly to save the world. He told St. Faustina, that she is to prepare the world for His Second Coming.

Here at the Shrine, we have a great devotion to Mary, the Mother of God. During this 100 years since Mary first appeared at Fatima, we will have a special devotion to her. May the Divine Mercy and His Mother,

Mary, continue to help EADM spread the message of Mercy, and guide us in the future to do God’s will. by

What is the Immaculate Heart? “My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will

lead you to God” These are the words that our Blessed Mother spoke to Lucia dos Santos, the eldest of the three visionaries of Fatima, when she appeared in the Cova da Ira on June 13, 1917. The shepherd children asked Our Lady to take them to Heaven and she told them that Francisco and Jacinta would soon be in Heaven with her, but that Lucia would have to stay on earth longer (she lived for another 87 years). She spoke to Lucia about her Immaculate Heart being a refuge and a path to God. We may ask, what does it mean that her Immaculate Heart being a refuge? And how is Mary’s Heart the way to God? Saint John Paul II told us this by addressing Our Lady when he consecrated the world to Mary’s Immaculate Heart in 1984, “You who have a mother’s awareness of all the struggles between good and evil, between light and darkness, which afflict the modern world, accept the cry which we...address directly to your Heart. Embrace with the love of the Mother and Handmaid of the Lord, this human world of ours, which we entrust and consecrate to you...We have recourse to your protection, Holy Mother of God” He went on to say, “Immaculate Heart! Help us conquer the menace of evil, which so easily takes root in the hearts of people today…” He asked Our Blessed Mother to deliver us from famine, war, hatred, injustice, sins against life, and even from the loss of awareness of good and evil. He then asked that through this consecration, there be revealed to the world once more, “the power of merciful love!” So, the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a protection for us. Entrusting and consecrating ourselves to Mary’s Immaculate Heart will do just that—protect us from the evils of the world and open us up to God’s profound mercy for us and the whole world. Because the heart is the centre of human life, that is where reason, will, temperance converge and where there is an interior unity. Her Heart is a heart with God’s grace, and has a perfect interior unity with God and therefore ‘sees God’. Thus when we have a devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we embrace her attitude of heart, which makes her fiat—‘Your will be done’— the center of our whole life. The Immaculate Heart of Mary shows us the path to God because it helps us to imitate Mary’s “yes” to God. This is the central message of Fatima. by Shirley Oleskiw

Novena to Our Lady of Fatima

(Recite this novena prayer four, nine day novenas (36 days) beginning on April 26-May 31, 2017, for peace in the world) Most Holy Virgin, who has deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three little shepherds the treasures of graces hidden in the recitation of the Rosary, inspire our hearts with a sincere love of this devotion, so that by meditating on the mysteries of our redemption that are recalled in it, we may gather the fruits and obtain the conversion of sinners, the conversion of Russia, and this favor that I so earnestly seek, (mention your request) which I ask of you in this novena, for the greater glory of God, for your own honor, and for the good of all people. Amen. (Say the Our Father,

Hail Mary, and Glory Be three times each)

Pray the Rosary, You Can Save the World "The power of one Hail Mary can change and save the world. In all our efforts and endeavours, we can never underestimate the power of prayer, and must

always rely on the help of God. In a special way we commend our efforts to the Mother of God and our own Blessed Mother. The Rosary, especially prayed in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, is a powerful means of spiritual grace. Prayer is our first and strongest resource. At Fatima Our Lady said, “I am the Lady of the Rosary. Pray the Rosary every day to obtain peace for the world. After each decade say the following prayer: “O my Jesus forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead

all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy”.

St. Padre Pio, the stigmatic priest, said: “The rosary is the weapon”.

Pope Paul V said, “ The Rosary is a treasure of graces.” Will you give 1% of each day to God? If so, pray a Rosary!

Feast of the Visitation of Mary, May 31st

On the Feast of the Visitation: let us not forget to honour Mary. In this mystery of our Lady’s life, God wished to show us that Mary is the way and means by which He imparts to us His graces. She is truly interested in our sanctification and salvation. The angel announced to Mary that her cousin Elizabeth was pregnant and she went in

haste to help Elizabeth. Mary’s desire to help and Elizabeth’s response is part of the Hail Mary and constitute the second joyful mystery of the Rosary. Immediately after the Incarnation Mary, the first Christian, was obeying the Lord’s commandment to love our neighbour, and we are to follow her example. Our Heavenly Mother is our model in carrying out the second great commandment of love. Through her intercession we should ask Jesus for the graces we need, especially the grace of being kind to all those around us. We are called to do all our actions by Mary, with Mary, and in Mary and for Mary, so that we can do them all the more perfectly by Jesus, with Jesus, in Jesus and for Jesus. by Shirley Oleskiw

Novena May 4-13 to Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament FIRST DAY

O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving

be every moment Thine; Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God! Versicle: O Virgin Immaculate, Mother of Jesus and our tender Mother, we invoke thee under the title of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, because thou art the Mother of the Savior who lives in the Eucharist, and because it was from thee that He took the Flesh and Blood with which He there feeds us! We invoke thee under that title because, again, thou art the sovereign dispensatrix of all graces and, consequently, of those contained in the august Eucharist, also, because thou didst first fulfill the duties of the Eucharistic life, teaching us by thy example how to assist properly at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, how to communicate worthily, and how to visit frequently and piously the Most Blessed Sacrament. V. Pray for us, O Virgin Immaculate, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament. R. That the Eucharistic Kingdom of Jesus Christ may come among us! Let us pray: Lord Jesus Christ, our King and our God, who having become Man to make us sharers in Thy Divinity, art truly our Bread in the adorable Eucharist, grant, we beseech Thee, that in venerating so great a Mystery, we may be mindful of the most sweet Virgin Mary, of whom Thou didst will to be conceived by the operation of the Holy Ghost! Grant, also that we may imitate the worship that she rendered while on earth to this most august Sacrament, so we may behold Thy Eucharistic Kingdom spread and flourish throughout the whole world! O Thou who livest and reignest forever and ever! Amen.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT O Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the glory of Christians, the joy of the universal Church, and the hope of the world, pray for us. Kindle in all the faithful a lively devotion to the most Holy Eucharist, so that they may be worthy to receive Holy Communion every day. Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us. Let us with Mary Immaculate adore, thank, supplicate, and console the most sacred and beloved Eucharistic Heart of Jesus.

SECOND DAY; MARY AND THE HOLY MASS

O Sacrament Most Holy, etc. Blessed be the holy, etc. O Virgin Immaculate, after having been present at the death of thy Divine Son on Calvary, where thou didst unite thy immense sorrow to the Redeemer's sacrifice, thou didst frequently assist at the real, though mysterious, renewal of that adorable sacrifice in the celebration of the Holy Mass. Teach us by thy example to esteem as it deserves the divine action performed at the altar, and obtain for us the grace to be able often, and even daily, to assist piously at the Holy Sacrifice. Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the First Day

THIRD DAY: MARY AND HOLY COMMUNION O Sacrament Most Holy, etc. Blessed be the holy, etc. O Virgin Immaculate, thy Communions were the most fervent, the most holy that were ever made! When thou didst possess thy Divine Son in thy breast, thou didst love Him with a love exceeding that of any other creature so ever for his God. Teach us to make Holy Communion the center of our life, and may that life be spent in preparing us for so great an action and in thanking God for so inappreciable a benefit! Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the First Day

FOURTH DAY: MARY AND THE REAL PRESENCE O Sacrament Most Holy, etc. Blessed be the holy, etc. O Virgin Immaculate, who after the ascension of thy Divine Son, didst console thy exile on earth by thy Real Presence of Jesus in the Sacrament, and didst spend before the tabernacle the greater part of thy days and even thy nights, make us comprehend the treasure we possess on the altar (Cont’d on page 15)

Inspire us to visit often the God of Love in the Sacrament in which He abides to

receive the homage that He deserves by so many titles, and to guide, protect, and console us in this exile! Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the First Day

FIFTH DAY, MARY, THE MODEL OF ADORERS O Sacrament Most Holy, etc. Blessed be the holy, etc. O Virgin Immaculate, thou art our perfect Model in the service of the Divine Eucharist. With the most lively faith and the most profound respect thou didst adore Jesus hidden under the sacramental veils. After thy example we desire to render to the Sacred Host all the honor due the Divinity and the glorified Humanity of the Son of God made Man. We wish to maintain at all times in the holy place the modesty and recollection becoming true adorers. Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the First Day

SIXTH DAY, MARY, THE MODEL OF THANKSGIVING O Sacrament Most Holy, etc. Blessed be the holy, etc. O Virgin Immaculate, who didst return to Jesus so perfect a Thanksgiving for the institution of the Divine Eucharist and the ineffable Gift in which the Savior exhausted His power and the treasures of His Heart, teach us to thank thy Divine Son for this great benefit, and especially to make our thanksgiving well when we have had the happiness of receiving Him in Holy Communion. Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the First Day

SEVENTH DAY, MARY, THE MODEL OF REPARATION O Sacrament Most Holy, etc. Blessed be the holy, etc. O Virgin Immaculate thou didst adore thy Divine Son in His state of perpetual Victim, always immolated on our altars, incessantly demanding, by His death, grace and mercy for sinners. We unite with thy dolors and thy perfect reparation. We desire to accept our daily trials for love of Him, and with thee to console Jesus for the ingratitude of men and the outrages He daily receives in the Blessed Sacrament. Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the First Day

EIGHTH DAY, MARY, THE MODEL OF PRAYER O Sacrament most holy, etc. Blessed be the holy, etc. O Virgin Immaculate, while the Apostles went to preach the Gospel, thou didst remain close to the tabernacle, supplicating for them the goodness of the Savior, and thy prayer obtained for them the grace to convert the world! Teach us to pray, above all, to pray near the tabernacle, where Jesus wills to abide continually in order to hear our petitions. Teach us to pray for the extension of the Eucharistic kingdom, for the salvation of the whole world, for the exaltation of the Holy Church, and most especially for the sanctification of the clergy and the conversion of sinners. Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the First Day

NINTH DAY,MARY, THE DISPENSATRIX OF EUCHARISTIC GRACES O Sacrament Most Holy, etc. Blessed be the holy, etc. 0 Virgin Immaculate, Mother most loving and admirable Model of adorers of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, thou art also the dispensatrix of the graces necessary to fulfill that great duty! Grant us, then, we beseech thee, as the fruit of this novena, the virtues that will render our adoration less unworthy of thy Divine Son. Teach us to honor so well this Mystery of mysteries that we may receive here below the graces it contains, in order to enjoy in heaven the eternal life of which it is the pledge! Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the First Day

Prayer of Repentance

Father of mercy, like the prodigal son, I return to You and say: “I have sinned against You and am no longer worthy to be called Your Son.” Christ Jesus, Savior of the World, I pray with the repentant thief to whom You promised Paradise: ‘Lord, remember me in Your kingdom.’ Holy Spirit, fountain of love, I call on You with trust; “Purify my heart, and help me to walk as a Child of light.
