May 27, 2018 PENTECOST OBSERVED
Honor, respect, dignity – it’s the minimum debt we owe to those who gave their lives in service to the country. For a moment in time, one day in a year, we pause. We do not cheer the red, white, and blue, and we do not shout our favorite slogan. We paint Memorial Day in more somber tones of grief and gratitude. In our own congregation, we know the grief of loved ones left behind. We remember all who gave their lives, and we know that many were very young – teens or 20s. ey will not know the joy of longevity we experience, and perhaps we would not know the joy of longevity were it not for their sacrice. Honor, respect, dignity. At Arlington National Cemetery, troops from Scouting BSA and infantry divisions of the U.S. Army have decorated 260,000 graves, then for 24 hours they patrol the grounds to make sure no ag falls. Honor, respect, dignity. At Oak Grove Cemetery, the graves of veterans are decorated. Honor, respect, dignity. During worship Sunday morning, we will remember and oer honor, respect, and dignity to all, especially to those who died in service in the previous 12 months. ose names are listed to the right.

Assembly Dates Tuesdays and Wednesdays June 19-20 • June 26-27 • July 10-11 • July 17-18 • July 24-25
Nearly 1 million kids in Georgia lose access to lunch when school ends for the summer. As part of Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, we want to make sure that children in our community have the food they need. For 10 days during the summer we will meet in Fellowship Hall at 10:30 a.m.
to enjoy fellowship, refreshments, and a devotional. We will then make sandwiches and assemble 600 sack lunches. To sign up to make sandwiches and assemble lunches, simply choose from the dates above, add your name to the sign-up sheets in the Portico, or sign up via the church website (www.ogumc.org). You may also sign up by calling Sandee Edmondson in the church office (404-636-7558). Smart Lunch, Smart Kid is a great intergenerational service opportunity for individuals, families with children, and other groups. If you would like to make a monetary contribution toward food supplies, make your check to Oak Grove with Smart Lunch in the “for/memo” line, give online at www.ogumc.org, or through text-to-give.
