Jessie Bowe Garden We are very close to completing the garden section of the development off Jessie Bowe which is very exciting. The space is looking very usable and with the kind donation from Maldon Gardening Club of $1000 it will look lovely by spring. Maldon Hospital has partnered with the gardening club to chose plants that will not only look nice but also survive well in our climate. We are planning a day where we can all get involved and celebrate by planting the plants with music and afternoon tea. We hope families, volunteers, staff and residents all join in to celebrate this space. We will send out an invitation when arrangements finalised. The outdoor building is underway off site and aims to be delivered in July, ready for next Spring. We are still awaiting some garden beds, that look like tanks, outdoor furniture, indoor furniture and some electrical work to be completed.
Balconies The builder (David Noble and co…...Chris Noble’s husband) will be working in some residents rooms in the coming weeks to put the wire up on the balconies to ensure they are safe and meet building requirements. David will liaise with the nursing staff to ensure it inconveniences people as little as possible, but feel free to speak up if you are uncomfortable with this work and we will make suitable arrangements. Thank you Monica—for decorating the hospital on Super Hero day with great drawings of superheros. Keep warm and enjoy the colours of Autumn Kind regards,
Katrina

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF NURSING
HEALTH & WELLBEING REPORT
“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” Nietzsche
Jill and her Harp joined us at our gardening session and played plant inspired tunes!
Residents enjoyed an outing to Laanecoorie and sandwiches from Berrymans. The weather was perfect for a drive.
We planted Pansies and Primulas to brighten up Winter and Hyacinth bulbs are growing roots in vases for Winter gardens.
We enjoyed a Happy Hour in the courtyard again as the weather was too tempting to remain indoors. Jill serenaded us again with her beautiful melodies once more.
We made bookmarks with our watercolour paintings and pressed flowers. These will be stored and used as gifts over the year.
Lachy performed for us recently playing some favourite tunes as well as improvisations. It was a full-house and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
John and Gwyn were back for a lovely afternoon of music and Easter fare.
Residents made and enjoyed eating Hot Cross Buns. They were delicious!
Ronda enjoyed Easter!
Residents made rosemary pins for remem-brance for our Anzac Day service
Residents read out the verses for our Anzac Day service. Around fifty people attended in-cluding families, R.S.L members and school children from Maldon Primary
THE FOOTY COLUMN BY LIZA Footy season is here again, for the delight of some and despair of others; thumbs down from Thelma. Kay’s season got off to a bad start with Alex Rance (arguably the best full back in the league) out for the season. Not on-ly is Kay upset but women of all persuasions will miss such a good example of “eye candy” i.e. good looks. Melbourne supporters could not believe the drabbing St Kilda gave them and the Blues lost the unlosable. I don’t know why we torture ourselves every week. It would be much less traumatic to follow table tennis or synchronised swimming Footy tipping participants aren’t finding the results easy to predict and peo-ple who know nothing about footy seem to be on the top; that’s life.
MESSAGE FROM THE NURSE UNIT
MANAGER Influenza Vaccinations We are currently in the process of obtaining new consent forms for residents to have their annual Flu Vaccine—if you or your loved one haven’t seen a copy to indicate you/your loved ones preference please see the nurse in charge. These forms need to be completed to indicate “yes the vaccine is to be given”, or “no, I/my loved one is not to receive the vaccine”. Residents will have their Flu Vaccines administered on May 15th. Winter is Coming! With the warmer months now a memory and the colder days and nights starting to creep in, I would like to remind family and friends of the importance of not visiting if you are unwell, or if you have been unwell in the past 48hours. Many of our residents have significant health conditions that lower their immunity and ability to fight off illness—something that my be a simple cold for us can be incredibly serious for older people. If you are unwell and wish to touch base with your loved one, or if you just want to brighten their day at any point, please remember to use the “Contact a Resident” link on the Hospital webpage, or feel free to give us a call and we can pop you on the phone . Emma
MOBILE POLLING BOOTH
The mobile polling team will conduct polling on Friday 10th May between 2:45pm and 4:15pm
SUPER HERO DAY $42.80 raised for Parkinson’s Victoria
JOKE TIME A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor's office. "Is it true," she wanted to know, "that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?" "'Yes, I'm afraid so,"' the doctor told her. There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied, "I'm wondering, then, just how serious is my condition because this prescription is marked 'NO REFILLS'.."
