May 2017 Parkwood Newsletter
Parkwood has installed a new INFRARED SAUNA upstairs at the Clubhouse!
The sauna has instructions and guidelines for time and temperatures.
What is an Infrared Sauna?
An infrared sauna is a type of sauna that uses light to create heat. These saunas are
sometimes called far-infrared saunas — "far" describes where the infrared waves fall on
the light spectrum. A traditional sauna uses heat to warm the air, which in turn warms
your body. Infrared heaters warm the body in the same manner as natural sunlight. Far
Infrared Heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum
of sunlight that heats the body normally. Traditional saunas raise the temperature of the
air to a very high level within the chamber to warm the body.
I don't believe I have any talents, hidden or otherwise, except I can almost always make babies stop crying, even if they don't know me. I think this may be, in part, because we had 35 foster babies while I was in my teens, almost all of them preemies. Love babies! My hobbies are reading, playing in the garden, knitting and
crocheting and making pens. I used to love to cook, but have gotten lazy in recent years as it's not much fun to cook for one. I enjoy spending time with
my kids and in-law kids and grandkids. I adore my cats! I decided to move to Sequim because it is more relaxed/less congested than
Redmond/King County and it is still beautiful up here. It doesn't hurt that everyone I have met here has been very friendly and helpful. Yesterday, I was in a checkout line and when the gentleman in front of me got up to the
cashier, that cashier said hello and called him by name. I really like that! I am coming from a place that has so many people, there is no way a cashier will
ever remember you. Sequim is more like what it was like when I was younger.

Improved Cable At A Lower Cost!
Parkwood has been seeking bids from vendors that supply cable TV, internet service, and telephone service. Wave Broadband is the
current provider. It is our hope that with competitive bidding for the contract that begins by or before April 1, 2018 Wave or one of the
other bidders will provide you our residents with a better rate. We’ll keep you informed as we
proceed. Thanks
PARKWOOD Management.
Keep and eye out for the
ROCK OF THE MONTH! It’s
painted by our resident, Joy
Barrett. If you find the rock
bring it up to the Clubhouse
office to pick up your
reward! If you have a rock
for the rock of the month
drop it by the office.
PARKWOOD COMMUNITY NEWS Parkwood “Spring Clean Up”
2 days, 1 large dumpster, 1 mountain of yard waste and 3 men. After the two days of cars, wheel barrows, wagons and pickup trucks all filled with household waste and yard waste the crew counted
almost 100 loads!
When we are having special events as a courtesy please sign up -- it helps us with set up and providing the right amount of supplies. Remember that you're always still welcome to attend even if you have not signed up!
Another great Rock Painting Day… It was nice to see some new faces come join us. Each rock was
awesome and of one of a kind. Bobby took the rocks home to seal and are now up at the office for you
to pick up.

CAFE PARKWOOD
THANK YOU to all who help support Café Parkwood by joining us each Monday night for dinner and donating to keep us going. We also have many folks who help by delivering, cooking, serving, doing
dishes and cleanup. We could not do any of this without all of you. We are aware that there are some folks who could probably use a delivered meal to help a bit to stretch the food budget, help after a hospital stay, something different on your meal list or are unable to make it to the clubhouse. We are here to help.
If you are able, we ask for a donation to help us stay self sufficient. Please call Sandi at the number shown on the bottom of the menu, if you are interested. If you like cooking or baking, we can always use
more help in preparing a dish for the dinner...let me know. We are all volunteers, here to help our neighbors wherever we can. Have a wonderful Spring!
