PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Dear Parents, It has been a typically busy start to the term with ANZAC commemorations, junior swimming and winter sports starting. This term, the Kaikorai School value we are exploring is “Aspiring”. To support the greater understanding of this value, the school will be turning itself into a mini society. Children will explore the issue of financial literacy over the next four weeks through a series of lessons in class. The inquiry will then move into creating a mini society where children will apply for jobs, plan and create businesses, design products and services and it will culminate in a market day on Friday the 12th of June where goods and services will be traded for the yet to be named Kaikorai dollar. A foreign exchange will be set up at the market day so that parents can exchange NZD for the Kaikorai Dollars to make purchases at the market day which parents are most welcome to attend. All proceeds from this event will go to supporting the people of Nepal after their devastating earthquake. Kind regards, Simon Clarke

  • SYNDICATE NEWS

Middle News - Last term we began using our google doc accounts to manage our spelling lists and this term we have been showing the KAIK values to know and understand how to log into our google accounts and complete writing tasks. Many of our middle children have been very excited about these accounts and are spending much more of their free time, at home and before school, writing.

Next week there will be a student teacher in Rooms 3 and 5. We look forward to meeting them and especially look forward to the fun and exciting learning activities they have in store for us. Also coming up next week, is a trip to the Edgar Centre for Have a go day. This is a great opportunity for us to try new sports that we might not have considered before.

Junior NewsMinibeasts means bugs, bugs and more bugs for us all to get fascinated with. What a great visit we had to the Museum where we went on treasure hunts and visited the animal attic to find habitats for different bugs. This is the beginning of our very exciting inquiry into minibeasts. Thank you to the awesome parents who provided support during this visit. Pop into classes and see our class displays as we progress with our minibeast inquiry. Swimming is well under way and the children are showing amazing signs of increased confidence and progress. We still have 3 more days of swimming next week so please send togs with your child. Thank you also to the parents for your support helping us get dressed and undressed. More helpers are always needed for each class. Please check your childs reading folder each night for notices as many are getting left in there. The teachers really appreciate your support and encouragement in your childs learning. Our KAIK value this term is ASPIRING. We aspire to be the best we can by working hard and trying our best. We are also still being Bucket Fillers not Bucket Dippers as we interact with our peers and our families. Happy Learning from the Junior Team.

Senior NewsThe senior classes have all started the term with a focus on ANZAC 100 Years Ago. We have enjoyed being part of a whole school effort to remember this period in history and the people involved. We were particularly proud of our efforts in assembly with the ANZAC songs and the display of poppies on the lawn out the front of the school. It has been a great way to start the term with some very creative learning activities contributing to various displays.

This week we are pleased to welcome Jason Benoit to our staff, he has been teaching in Auckland. Jason is teaching in Room 4. With his broad experiences in teaching we know he will be bringing fresh ideas to our team.

    Road Patrol Volunteers Required!

Please give some serious consideration to joining the road patrol team. Do your bit for our school community by offering to patrol one week each term.

As you know, we have busy roads around Kaikorai Primary School, and unfortunately due to a lack of parent help there are many weeks this term that road patrol will not be present on Highgate.

Email [email protected] to pencil your time in, or to ask more questions.

    ANZAC Commemorations

Anzac Day was very special this year and we have marked the one hundred year anniversary of the landings with respect. The children enjoyed sharing stories from their own families, making poppies and learning interesting stories particularly about the roles of animals in war.
