How To Before Will You

We Invite, They Commit, We follow-up

Question:

1. Why do you think the Preach my Gospel always asks us to record the things we’ve learned?

Answer:

It helps us to PonderForces us to think“Use it often to review, access, and apply what you have learned.”(PMG x)

“That’s what Preach My Gospel teaches us to do ask questions, research the answers, and then write down what we’ve learned.”-From spreading gospel of Homework

We will experiment!

We will ask our investigator to write the things they learned from the commitment we gave.

Example:

Commitment to Read

1. If we ask them to read the Book of Mormon, we will make a specific question and ask them to record their answer in a sheet of paper.

If we ask them to read the pamphlet, ask them to answer “Dugang Pagtuon / additional Study” in the pamphlet.

If we ask them to read the scripture, prepare a question that they need to find out.

Commitment to Attend Church

2. Provide a question that will help them to think and prepare for church attendance

Ask them to write their preparation in order to attend church

2 Nephi 29:11

“For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them; for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works, according to that which is written.”

Follow-up Question (Discussion Proper)

1. How do you help someone who isn’t motivated to do an assignment, to do it? How do you help someone who isn’t motivated to know whether the Book of Mormon is true, into someone who wants to know?

2. How much of the time in a typical lesson should be spent following up on the commitments you had asked your investigators to keep? How much of the time should you devote to teaching them how to keep the next commitments you’re asking them to make? And how much should be spent teaching them the doctrines in our four lessons?
