What can I say? The Quilt Show was wonderful! We are a talented group of dedicated quilt-

ers! The quilts were amazing, with so many beautiful colors, patterns and designs. I loved every

one! The quilt ribbon winners will be posted in the newsletter, but each one should be congratu-

lated for their expertise, in each category. The many vendors chose their favorite quilt on which

to place a ribbon, as did the President. Honestly, I didn't realize the quilt I had decided to adorn

with a ribbon, was made by the vice president, until I got closer and read the sign. The Silent

Auction, near and dear to my heart, raised money for Coastal Connections, a program

for disabled adults in Amesbury. Three members have children who attend this program. Twen-

ty-three items raised a LOT of money for this program, and they will be so appreciative. Thanks

to all who contributed items to the Silent Auction, and for all who purchased items. The total will

be disclosed at the May meeting.

Thanks, also, for all the lovely donated quilts for Project Linus and Hospice House. More will be

coming in, and dispersed in June.

I can't thank enough, the team of members who carried out the work of the quilt show, and "the

two Joannes" - Joanne Turner and JoAnne Burns for chairing the Quilt Show this

year. "Remember When", with the decorations, challenge quilts and ice cream bar, was a won-

derful theme. Having a sewing machine to raffle added a lot of interest.

Coming up at the next meeting, the Viewer's Choice ribbon, and in June, The Quilter of the Year

is disclosed. Until then, happy sewing for next year's quilt show!

Iwould like to remind those members who signed up for the UFO Quilt Chal-

lenge that the May meeting is the deadline for showing me your finished UFO

Quilts in order to be eligible for the gift certificate drawing at the June meet-

ing. I printed the quilt show entry list and will look for those quilts when I am

at the show (for double credit).

If you have a finished quilt/project and can't make the May meeting, you can

send me a good photo of it by email attatchment or regular mail (postmarked

by the may meeting

Looking for a place to recycle old textiles, fabric, curtains, clothing

etc.?

Newburyport Transfer station accepts them at no cost– just tell the per-

son at the booth and they will direct you.

Mystery Quilt Part 5 of the Mystery Quilt is now available under "Projects" on

the MVQ website. A few copies will be available at the May

meeting for those without computer access.

MVQ has two tubs of storybooks with accompanying quilts to be used in a

classroom or school library– They are suitable from Pre-K through Middle

school.

You can arrange for a tub to take to your child or grandchild’s school for afew

weeks. Mary Ginn and Maggie Judd are the people to see to arrange this.

If you like to knit or crochet baby hats– I have a source to give them

to.

I’d like to send a special thank you to everyone who assisted in the judging, hanging and taking

down of the quilts in out show, especially our male contingent who are not members but par-

ticipated anyway. They are invaluable. I think we set a record for a complete take down in 52

minutes. That could never have been accomplished without all the help we received. Never have I

seen the old adage “many hands make light work” demonstrated so well. Thank you all again and

we hope to see everyone again next year! It was a pleasure working with you all.

The Silent Auction

I would personally like to thank all 16 people for their lovely and fun donations that raised

$500 for Coastal Connections in Amesbury, MA. They will find out the total after the next

general meeting, when the last five items will be given out and checks received. There was a lot of

interest in several items, which made the Silent Auction a fun and busy place all during the show. I

found out from my sister, that the outside edge of the umbrella picture is called Bobbin Lace.

Thanks again for everyone who donated, and everyone who placed a bid. I will be handing out the

last 5 items at the church hall between 6 PM and 7 PM on Thursday, May 16, prior to the general

meeting, .

April 18th, 2013 Minutes of the General Meeting

Meeting started at 7:02 by Bev Valle. The topic of the Quilt Show was first on the agenda. Bev Valle has 12 items for the silent auction so far. If you have

other items for the auction you were asked to e-mail or call her about them. Pat Lucey is running the Boutique. 20% goes to the guild and the other 80% goes to the owner. Items should be brought

on Thursday April 25th and Friday, April 26th. Tickets for the raffle quilt should be passed in by Saturday April 27th by noon time. JoAnne Turner and Joanne Burns asked for donations of drinks and food for the cafe. Drinks can be brought on Thursday and food (cookies, brownies etc.) on Friday. Mattie Burke is looking for people to sign up to volunteer at the quilt show. Everyone

should volunteer two hours of their time during the quilt show. Carrie Pizza will be at the Merrimac Library, Wednesday, April 24th for the judging the quilts. Drop off is in the morning around 8:30 and pick-up is at 4:15. Sue Richards introduced speaker Diane Loomis whose talk was on Baltimore Quilts Door Raffles was won by Diana Doucette, Carolyn Thompson, and Janet Gillis.

Table raffle was won by Abby Salt.

Linda Pearl is putting on a bus trip to the Vermont Quilt Show, Saturday, June 29th.
