It spills into our lives with schedule-clog- ging graduations, Mothers’ Day observances, and end-of-school activities, crowding in with the usual monthly routine of birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, funerals, etc. That also means that May can be a poor month, having to buy graduation and anniversary gifts out of the same monthly budget. But May leans then into June, and we continue on with our lives, pil- ing up days and weeks of events and demands, trying hard to keep up with ourselves. Sometimes, however, we can’t. Being human, we can only – in most instances – be in one place at a time. Events sometimes overlap; one celebration impinges on another. While in Arkansas this past week celebrating honors my youngest son, Dan, was receiving, I learned one of my mother’s three remaining broth- ers had died. Uncle Royce was a genial and gracious man whom I can’t imagine anyone ever disliked. He made glad every room he entered, even though he didn’t live a stress-free life. He truly lived for others, and few compliments rise above that But I couldn’t go to the funeral – too far, too inconvenient. It grieves me that there’s a blessed cruelty to human limitation. Because we can’t control events, the time or place of important occasions, we must value each mo- ment we’re together – the graduation, the baptism, the marriage, the funeral – because we don’t know what might intervene before we see one another again. Like others, I lean on the old hymn: “Blessed be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love.” Mark FROM THE PASTOR

Bound Together May is a momentous month. It spills into our lives with schedule-clog-ging graduations, Mothers’ Day observances, and end-of-school activities, crowding in with the usual monthly routine of birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, funerals, etc. That also means that May can be a poor month, having to buy graduation and anniversary gifts out of the same monthly budget. PROJECT TRANSFORMATION Project Transformation is a summer literacy camp for underserved children in urban areas of Oklahoma. The camp provides children one-on-one time with mentors and leadership in reading, computers, arts and crafts, music and theater, field trips and enrichment activities. The program is sponsored by the Oklahoma United Methodist Conference, AmeriCorps, and community in-dividuals and organizations. Project Transformation now serves over 500 children in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Bartlesville with the help of 55 AmeriCorps members, 1,000+ volunteers, and more than 50 partner churches. Our church is scheduled to work at Chapel Hill UMC July 9 – 12. This is a camp program for the entire sum-mer with all kinds of activities, and a daily reading pro-gram. We will need 12 people a day to work 2 1/2 hours. We would love for you to participate all four days, but you can be there whatever days you can. We will also be providing a meal for the volunteer camp workers one night during our week. A signup sheet will be provided in June.

Contact Mary Ellen Cromwell if you might be interested in volunteering your time with these children. (405) 373-1578

TORNADO RELIEF NEEDS As the result of several tornadoes in recent weeks, many Oklahomans are in the process of cleaning up and assessing damage to property along with grieving the loss of lives. No supplies are needed at this time, but monetary donations are very useful. You may give through our church to the “Oklahoma Disaster Relief Fund” and des-ignate on the memo line of your check which community or county you wish to support. Woodward and Norman were not the only Oklahoma communities affected by the storms. Residents of Shat-tuck, Gage, Fargo, Waynoka, and rural northwestern Oklahoma also were affected.

Remember the church in your Will

Helping Hands RepoRt

Thank you for all of your contributions to Helping Hands. During the month of April, we were abke to help many people who requested assistance from our church. We helped with $250.00 in utility payments; $185.00 in rental assistance and provided four people with gasoline cards. Our Food Bank was also able to provide bags of food for several families. Helping Hands and our Food Bank are being called on more and more frequently. Please remember those in need by leaving your gift to Helping Hands on the altar on communion Sundays or in the offer-ing plate designating the same.
