The “official” roll-out of CFMC’s optimized proposal develop-ment process and first training program will be held on May 22nd. This one hour training session is designed to provide an overview of the proposal development process and a high level review of the roles and responsibilities of each member of a proposal develop-ment team. A subsequent training session will be held June 12th to provide a more in depth review of each role and associated responsibilities within a proposal development team as well as a review of the templates and tools. These training sessions will be rolled out to all proposal develop-ment stakeholders. Additional training modules will be forth-coming.

May Day Lunch... May Day occurs on May 1st and is generally celebrated in the United States as the beginning of spring. Many years ago my siblings and I would make paper baskets, pick violets from our yard and leave them on the door steps of our favorite neighbors. While it is cele-brated in Europe, May Day has not gained a lot of

popularity in America, how-ever, its roots go back a long way. Please enjoy May Day with us on Tuesday! Flower power is the theme and CFMC will be having lunch that day. Salad, Soup, Bread and Desserts… Hope to see you there!

For many people, January 1st offers an

opportunity to forget the past and

make a clean start. But instead of leav-

ing everything up to fate, why not en-

joy a meal to increase your good for-

tune? There are a variety of foods that

are believed to be lucky and to im-

prove the odds that this year will be a

great one. Traditions vary from culture

to culture, but there are striking simi-

larities in what's consumed in different

pockets of the world.

FISH is a very logical choice for the New

Year's table. Cod has been a popular feast

food since the Middle Ages and is compared

to turkey on Thanksgiving. Long before re-

frigeration and modern transportation, cod

could be preserved and transported allowing

it to reach the Mediterranean and even as far

as North Africa and the Caribbean. The Dan-

ish eat boiled cod, while in Italy, baccalà, or

dried salt cod, is enjoyed from Christmas

through New Year's. Herring, another fre-

quently preserved fish, is consumed at mid-

night in Poland and Germany.

Healthy eating starts with learning new ways to eat, such as adding more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and cutting back on foods that have a lot of fat, salt, and sugar. A change to healthier eating also in-cludes learning about balance, vari-ety, and moderation.

Aim for balance. Most days, eat

from each food group—grains, protein foods, vegetable and fruit, and dairy. Listen to your body. Eat when you're hungry. Stop when you feel satisfied.

Look for variety. Be adventurous. Choose different foods in each food group. For example, don't reach for an apple every time you choose a fruit. Eat-ing a variety of foods each day will help you get all the nutrients you need.

Practice moderation. Don't have

too much or too little of one thing. All foods, if eaten in moderation, can be part of healthy eating. Even sweets can be okay.

Kaiser Permanente sent us their recipe booklet that contains healthy recipes and active living tips. Stop by the front desk and pick one up.

Hey Did You Notice? HR is now able to send messages through InfoTrak in the “announcements” section. Periodically, we will be using this tool as a way for us to send remind-ers on events at CFMC, deadlines and other fun information.

Denver Day of Rock May 26th: event to help benefit Food Bank of the Rockies this year! Denver Day of Rock is a one-of-a-

kind music event presented by

Concerts For Kids to raise aware-

ness of the children in our com-

munity. This free event will fea-

ture five stages of live music

throughout downtown Denver on

Saturday, May 26, 2012.

It’s hard for most of us to imag-ine, but every day in our commu-nity, more than 300,000 people worry about where they will find their next meal. Hunger is very real and Food Bank of the Rockies is fighting to ensure no one goes without needed nutrition. 1 in 7 Colorado citizens live with food insecurity and struggle to meet their basic food needs. Hunger is especially hard on children, who make up 42% of the Food Bank’s

clients and require proper nutrition to grow and learn. In today’s econ-omy, the need for food assistance is increasing substantially.

This year at the 3rd Annual Denver

Day of Rock, individuals will be

asked to bring cans of non-

perishable food in which will di-

rectly benefit Food Bank of the

Rockies. During the event, there

will be several bins at various loca-

tions along the 16th Street Mall

where individuals can drop off cans

of food. All food donated that day

will go directly to FBR in order

for them to continue to help

feed our community and fight

hunger. Who does your dona-

tion help?

42% of those receiving food as-

sistance are children; 10% are

children age 5 or younger. Sen-

iors represent 5% of clients.

Many recipients are the working

poor. 42% of the households re-

ceiving food assistance from our

agencies have at least one work-

ing adult. 14% of our recipients

are homeless.

So come to the event and help

Concerts For Kids and Food Bank

of the Rockies fight hunger in

our community!
