May Presidents LetterHello painters! Wow! May came up in a hurry didn't it? Now if we only could find Spring!! I certainly hope that gloomy

April brings us some beautiful May flowers! We have had a couple of busy painting months with the auction and then the Bobbie Takashima seminar.

Again, the auction was a successful event and many thanks to everyone for all of the hard work. The auction committee

led by Nancy Hungate did a great job. Our membership donated wonderful paintings for auction and also everyonepitched in and worked hard the day of the event.I think everyone that attended the Bobbie Takashima seminar really enjoyed it and came away feeling that they hadlearned lots.

A big thank you to Chris Lynn for presenting our April program. Many of us went home with a newly painted flowerpotready for spring flowers(that is when spring gets here!).Speaking of programs, we welcome any ideas or suggestions and also volunteers!

Don't forget our paint days that are coming up at Deere Wiman. The next is Saturday, May 7.Some of us will be attending SDP convention in Wichita in a couple of weeks. Sue Stone and I will be going to theChapters Conference and hope to come home inspired! Let us know if you have any requests from the trade show.

NEWSLETTER NOTE: Product ideas from the most recent Paint Works magazine.- Project is terracotta pots. Basecoat and texture: Apply sealer to the pots, let dry. Basecoat each pot withthree coats of green tea (paint color not a beverage :-) allowing each coat to dry thoroughly before applying

the next. Combine a tablespoon of texture glass with a half teaspoon green tea and mix well. This shouldcreate a very thick paint mixture that retains whatever shape you manipulate it into. Use the stencil brush tostipple the entire outside of each pot with the mixture. The texture should be subtle and rather fine, like thetexture of an orange peel. Let dry-- Silk Scarf PaintersDy-na Flow is a high-quality fabric paint that has the look and flow of a silk dye. Thecolor penetrates the fabric fibers (not coating them). Leaving the fabric soft and flexible. Colors can beapplied to cotton, silk, crepe, wood and more. To set the colors into the fabric, simply apply heat using aniron. Dy-na-flow was created for artists who love the look of silk dyes, but do not want the hassle of steam-

setting the colors. Its the perfect medium for fabric artists of all ages. You can apply this paint withairbrush, sponge or spray bottle. Clear or colored-resist lines are applied to the cloth prior to painting if youwish to keep colors separated within the design . You can also add embellishment lines after the design ispainted.- Rebecca Baer Clearly Elegant Stenciling Gel: This stencil gel is acid-free, water-based, and flexible. Itdries to a crystal-clear gloss finish and works hand-in-hand with Rebeccas stencils. It can be applied towood, metal, paper, plastic, glass, and fabric, and can be antiqued if desired. You can also use this gel as aphoto transfer medium, or you can create a variety of dimensional effects by adding paint, ink, glitter, microbeads, or powdered pigment to it. It also works well as an adhesive for applying glitter to an area.
