Happy Mothers Day
Is Mothers Day. We at the Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission takethis opportunity to wish all of the Mothers that read this newsletter a
very happy and blessed day, on this, your day! We are also thankful
for you and all that you do for the Lord in raising your family to honorGod and respect Him for who He is. It is Christian mothers that take the
initiative in raising the family and teaching them the precepts of the Lord. You Mom, do all
of the work and we appreciate your leading and setting the example for the kids to follow
(I know that Dads are important too). But, it is you that your children look to when they
are sick, hurt, just feeling down or needing advice. They know where they can get the help
and comfort they are looking for in their time of crises. The hand that rocks the cradle is
the hand that holds the destiny of our country.
After I have said all of that, you know, I cannot help but wonder what this world would be
like if we had time for our families like I can remember in days gone by; when families
spent time together, done things together, prayed together, maybe even had a family altarwhere they read the Bible and prayed together and Mom and Dad was still in control. But,
Mom I am still very thankful for what you do and the influence you have in your family.
In the Bible we read about women that were the mothers of some great men that made an
everlasting mark in history and left an awesome impression of the wonders of the Lord.
This was accomplished because of a mothers concern and care for them. One was Sarah.
It took a while, but when her faith was strengthen, she believed God and in her old age
gave birth to Issac, the son of promise. Then, Isaac married Rebekah and she was barren.
However, Isaac interceded on her behalf to God. Then by faith she gave birth to Jacob
and he became the father of the sons that would represent the twelve tribes of Israel. Then
there was Moses mother, Samuel mother and Mary the mother of our Lord nurtured therechildren to help become what God had planned for there life.
These are just a few of the more familiar mothers in the Bible that
made a difference in their childrens life. But without them we
would not have known the great men of the Bible that their sons
became.

Mothers Day
Is Every DayEvery day should be
Mothers Day!
She is special in every way.Remembering when
She helped me pray,
By my bed and what to say
We talked to God
Yes, this was my dear mother.
Every day she was there for me,
Are you hurt? O let me see!
Always busy as a bee,
Living and loving for her family.
And on she plod
Yes, this was my dear mother.
Some of the days as years went by,
My goals (sometimes) made her sigh.
Though, she did help me make my try
She was there, and never nigh
Some times used the rod,
Yes, she was my dear mother!
Every child needs mothers like her!
Always there fr us and father,
Filling the family with much cheer,
Our siblings knew she was near
She walked with God,
Yes, she was my dear mother!Written by E.J. Best

A Childs PrayerOn Mothers Day
God in heaven, I thank Thee
This day on bended kneeFor the wonderful motherThou hast given me!
Her heart is kind and gentle.Flowing with love and care;
Her touch is warm and loving,Her life a constant prayer.
How she often draws meInto her arms to read,
Gods holy word, the Bible.
Words my heart should heed.
How often, too, I hear herWhisper my name in prayer!
Never a childish problemBut she is always there.
God in heaven, I ask Thee,Now while I bow to pray

reaching back to express their thanks energizes the staff at the Mission. Although we have dedicated our lives to
helping those in need and thanks are not necessary we still like to hear it. It helps us keep thing in perspective by
keeping us thankful as well. All the glory belongs to God because we cannot do what we do without him putting it
on your hearts to support the Rescue Mission.
In the spirit of passing this gratefulness along we are sharing a card we received from a young woman who found
herself in a scary place and just needed a safe place to land. Thanks to you she found it!

Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that fears the Lord,
she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:30
On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between S

And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he sa
himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jes

A Safe P
When someone shows up at the Rescue Missions door
for the very first time the circumstances are never good.I know of no one who has spent the idle hours of their
youth dreaming about being homeless or aspiring to be
the best homeless person who ever lived. The reality is
homelessness is a result of a catastrophic interruption
occurring in the path of our life. Heartache, shame,
disappointment, and fear are a few of the emotions
experienced into this journey of the unknown. Through
circumstances one has become the modern day leaper
spoken of In Leviticus 13:46.
As long as he has the infection he remains unclean. Hemust live alone; he must live outside the camp.
Many of the homeless see themselves as outcast infected
with the stigma of social refuse. This is a juncture in
a man or womens life where a welcoming smile can
cause the quiver of fear in ones voice to become a
quiver of relief in their hearts. The realization they have
found a safe place to land affords them a moment, just a
moment, of respite from uncertainty. Comfort has been
found in Gods house.
Out of the thousands of men, women, and children the
Mission comforts throughout the year there are those
who are frequent visitors. Society has giving them the
title Chronic Homeless making the person and the
condition one in the same. The word chronic is less
offensive than hopeless although its the same thing.
It gives us permission to not care as much because
its easier to become synthesized to the familiar. In
todays society the quest for the new creates disdain
for the old. If you tell someone they are hopeless long
enough, regardless of the manner you chose to convey
the message, at some point they begin to believe it. You
are who you believe you are. Reaching those who have
believed the lie is rewarding indeed. The concept of
Luke 15:7 becomes more real to us here at the Mission.
I tell you that in the same way there will be more
rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than
over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need torepent.
Then there are those who are not frequent visitors to
the Mission. These are the men, women, and children
who have for the very first time in their lives found
themselves without a place to go. The desire for basic
survival needs such as food, clothing, and shelter has
driven them to the Missions doors. This group makes
up the clear majority of those we serve at the Mission.
These are the people who take full advantage of the
helping hand offered in a time of crisis. From this groupyou usually find the grateful leaper Jesus spoke of in
Luke 17:11-19. These are the people who have a heart
for expressing their thankfulness by reaching back
to those who reached out to them. The byproduct of

Remember This One!This is one of my all time favorites.
The Old Rugged Cross
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross
Where the dearest and bestFor a world of lost sinners was slain.
Oh, that old rugged cross
So despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God
Left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.
In the old rugged cross,
Stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see.For twas on that old cross
Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
To the old rugged cross,
I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then Hell call me some day,
To my home far away,
Where His glory forever Ill share.Chorus:
So Ill cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down,
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
Thank You
For your positive response to the Old Hymns nostalgia
road that I take you down each month. I have received
so many good comments and responses and some of
you have even sent me some of your favorite hymns.
I really do appreciate it. I will keep this going as long
as you respond. To me the old hymns have the Gospel
message that could lead a person to know Jesus as their
Savior. I wish our churches would return to using them
in the church service.

Leasons Learned
The question was asked, What have you learned since
you came into the NewLife program? I have learned
that community living is tough. In fact, this program
itself is probably the hardest thing I have had to do
in my life, beside prison. But through this program I
have learned to deal with people in a far better way.In the past I would zero in on somebodys faults and
give myself a good reason to not like them. Now I have
learned to try and find the good in people. Because the
truth is, I need them. You can learn so much from the
people around you. They can inspire you. You can learn
something from anybody. You can learn what works
and what doesnt.
Ive also learned that you can separate yourself from
people and at the same time love them and pray for
them. The Bible says to make no provision for sin. So Icant hang with people that are doing bad or I will end
up like them. You hang with wolves, you learn to howl.
I pray by setting a good example, by having a positive
attitude, and by speaking kind words, it will help them
and give them a desire to change. These are the things,
with the help of Christ; I feel I can do.
This program is two years long, so I definitely have
learned patience. I always want everything now. I want
to take shortcuts and that gets me into trouble. Im
learning to take things slowly and waiting on the Lord.
I believe that the Lord will give me the desires of my
heart if I just continue to do the right thing and be
obedient to His word. Finishing what you have started
and following through with your commitments is the
right thing to do. I see this picture of the life I want, and
I want it now. But I have learned that every good thing
comes from God, and He will give to those what they
need and desire if they wait on Him. Everything in the
Lords time, not mine; His will, not mine.
I have learned that God can restore all I have lost. My
family is everything to me. Because of my addiction I
almost lost them. I had to choose, my addiction or my
family. Life or death, that was clear. I chose life and Ichose my family. The only way to beat the addiction
was Jesus, I know, because I could not do it on my
own. Since I have come to Jesus, my family has come
back to me. Our relationship is better than ever.
I have learned that I cant depend only on myself. I
need the truth of God, and I need to be able to reach
out to believers around me. Isolation is doom. We need
each other.
I have learned to stop comparing myself with others. Ifyou compare yourself with others, you see others with
more and think your less. You see others with less and
think you are more than you really are. Instead I see us
all as children of God. In His eyes we are all important
and loved equally. We were all created equal just like
our constitution says.
Another thing I have learned is to be open and honest
with the people around me. To let them know my
struggles. It has been my experience that God will
work through them and help me. He will, through
people, guide me to the right decision and outcome. My friends will support me and hold me accountable,
if they are truely friends.
The biggest and most important thing I have learned is
I cant change on my own. Only God can change me.
No matter how far I think Ive fallen, He can catch me
and restore me. He is the rock I can stand on. When I
have no strength, He will be strong for me. Have Faith
in Him, and He will come through for me. I know that
He loves me, and that all I have been through was for
a good purpose. I have been right to the edge so manytimes and called out for His help. He has been faithful
and has always come to my rescue. Unfortunately
I would fall back into my old ways and I that state
would not recognize Him by giving thanks. Now Im
committed to Jesus Christ.
