INSIDE

Sure, events like Hoppapalooza, Cicerone vs. Sommelier, and the VCBW Beer Festival have sold out, but that doesn’t mean you can’t experience the excite-ment of Vancouver Craft Beer Week to its fullest. Every event during this 9-day celebration of fermentation has been designed with one thing in mind, to blow

people’s minds! With that, here are the top 4 can’t-miss hidden gems of VCBW 2012.

MAY 18THVCBW OPENING NIGHT OVERTURE presented by Darby’s Liquor Store

If you go to only one event during VCBW this should be it! This all-inclusive evening at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown kicks things off with a special guest tapping the first cask of the VCBW Collaboration Beer. From there, guests will be given a taster glass to enjoy samples of Belgian, American, and Canadian Beers, along with beer cocktails and beer vs wine pairing stations. Darby’s Public house, BierCraft, and Benton Brothers will also be supplying some tasty bites for you to enjoy. At only $55 per ticket, this may be the best bang for your buck event!

MAY 21STBIERCRAFT BELGIAN SHOWCASE

Ever wanted to go to Belgium but couldn’t afford the flight and two weeks’ vacation time? Problem solved as Biercraft, Vancouver’s premier Belgian tap house, is offering up and all-inclusive event featuring over 50 belgian beers, as well as Belgian-influenced hors d’oeuvres to soak up those high taste testers. Try offerings from legendary breweries like Rochefort, St. Bernardus, and Delerium Tremens as well as sample some of the best examples of Belgian styles created by both local and US craft breweries like Green Flash, Townsite and Driftwood.

Top 4 Hidden Gems of VCBW

MAY 21STBREWMASTER CASK NIGHT AT DOOLIN’S IRISH PUBpresented by Russell Brewery

Russell Brewing is quietly becoming one of the most decorated breweries in BC. Fresh off winning another World Cup of Beer medal, head brewer Jack Bensley is bringing the thunder to Doolin’s with casks of the VCBW Collaboration Beer, Talisker Single Malt Scotch-infused Doolin’s Ale and Rick August’s Russian Imperial Stout, the Best in Show at the 2011 Golden Stag Homebrewing contest. This event is also all-inclusive, featuring beer tastings and food.

MAY 22ND1ST ANNUAL BATTLE OF THE BARTENDER BEER COCKTAIL COMPETITIONpresented by Clough Club

Never had a beer cocktail? If not, you’re missing out on what is quickly becoming the hottest trend in craft beer. 15 of Vancouver’s best bartenders are going to showcase why people are so in love with them, compet-ing not only for bragging rights, but also a trip for two to visit the Rogue Brewery and Distillery in Newport Oregon. That said, the real winners will be those in attendance as they’ll get to taste all the wild and wacky creations these mixologists come up with. As with many of these events, tickets are all-inclusive!

Tickets for these events are still on sale at www.vancouvercraftbeerweek.com, but won’t be for long. Don’t miss out on Vancouver Craft Beer Week 2012—get your tickets today!
