Craft Beer Week will feature two events dedicated to the lads and ladies of craft beer.
As the opening act of the evening, Brothers in Hops is an event where four of the Pacific Northwest’s best brewers are getting together to show that yes indeed, craft brewing is a brotherhood. Who are these four brewers? Ben Love of Portland’s Gigantic Brewing, Gary Lohin of Surrey’s Central City Brewing, Jaime Floyd of Eugene’s Ninkasi brew-ing, and Graham With of Vancouver’s newest craft brewery: Parallel 49. Each of them is known for their hop-forward creations and is sure to deliver an amaz-
ing night of brotherly love. Tickets to this event st Smiley’s Public House are all inclusive.
Headlining the event is one of VCBW’s most beloved events, Sisters of the Tap, formerly known as Women and Beer. This event will feature eight of BC’s finest ladies in brewing, along with their beers, and five courses complimenting the differ-ent styles and personalities of each of those beers. Hosted at Top Chef Canada Dale Mackay’s newest restaurant, ensemble Tap, he and executive chef Brad Hendrickson will thoughtfully pair the dinner courses to five of the beers, while the other three will be for the mingling portions of the evening. As with Brothers in Hops, this event is all inclusive.

Sure, events like Hoppapalooza, Cicerone vs. Sommelier, and the VCBW Beer Festival have sold out, but that doesn’t mean you can’t experience the excite-ment of Vancouver Craft Beer Week to its fullest. Every event during this 9-day celebration of fermentation has been designed with one thing in mind, to blow
people’s minds! With that, here are the top 4 can’t-miss hidden gems of VCBW 2012.
MAY 18THVCBW OPENING NIGHT OVERTURE presented by Darby’s Liquor Store
If you go to only one event during VCBW this should be it! This all-inclusive evening at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown kicks things off with a special guest tapping the first cask of the VCBW Collaboration Beer. From there, guests will be given a taster glass to enjoy samples of Belgian, American, and Canadian Beers, along with beer cocktails and beer vs wine pairing stations. Darby’s Public house, BierCraft, and Benton Brothers will also be supplying some tasty bites for you to enjoy. At only $55 per ticket, this may be the best bang for your buck event!
MAY 21STBIERCRAFT BELGIAN SHOWCASE
Ever wanted to go to Belgium but couldn’t afford the flight and two weeks’ vacation time? Problem solved as Biercraft, Vancouver’s premier Belgian tap house, is offering up and all-inclusive event featuring over 50 belgian beers, as well as Belgian-influenced hors d’oeuvres to soak up those high taste testers. Try offerings from legendary breweries like Rochefort, St. Bernardus, and Delerium Tremens as well as sample some of the best examples of Belgian styles created by both local and US craft breweries like Green Flash, Townsite and Driftwood.
