May 14th, 2016: The York College/WellSpan Health Nurse Anesthesia Program graduated its 9th class. Time flies while you’re having fun and just over 32 months ago, these graduates thought that this day would never come. The class

of 2016 exemplifies the NAP motto of vigilance, knowledge, and compassion. Once again the bar has been raised for the dedication, intelligence, and

professionalism that is required of the NAP program. From everyone past and present in the nurse anesthesia program, we would like to say congratulations! Your hard work and dedication will continue to be felt by the program now and

into the future. We wish you the best in your future careers!

The graduation celebrations kicked off with the class of 2016 attending their very last Final Friday Forum as

students. An amazing breakfast was provided. SOFA president, Robin Crowley, Dr. Michael Klein, Dr. George Haritos, Sue Holtzinger, and Colleen Amundson were just a few of the people in attendance to wish our

graduates well.

Once everyone had their fill of breakfast, a teary eyed Dr. Haas provided each graduate with a signed transcript which was notarized by YCPs Janet Strickhouser. Dr. Haas said a few words about each graduate which was a

nice way of paying honor to each graduates accomplishments.

After the signing of the transcripts, thank you gifts were passed out from the class of 2016. A monetary award was presented to the SOFA foundation. Robin Crowley announced that Colleen Amundson (Class of 2015) was

officially voted onto the SOFA board of directors. Congratulations Colleen!!!

After awards and gifts were passed out, a heartfelt video/slideshow was played that payed tribute to the exten-

sive journey that the class of 2016 had traversed. Humor was certainly a point that was construed but also lots of “thanks” and “emotion.” The expression of gratitude towards Dr. Haas, Dr. Lowe, and Professor Burtnett was

certainly felt by all in attendance.

Thank you class of 2016!

Convocation was on May 13th where the class of 2016 was hooded followed by

a graduate dinner at the York Country Club. Awards were provided to gradu-

ates and faculty from the NAP and from the SOFA foundation. Anne Parson

(class of 2012) was the key note speaker this year at convocation and provided

support and words of encouragement to the graduation class of 2016. Many

faculty, and alumni attended the graduate dinner and the event was stellar.

Thanks to all who attended and showed your support!

Congratulations to team YCP/WellSpan Health NAP for winning the Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Anesthetists (PANA) College Bowl and returning the coveted trophy back to York! The team of Sasi Krishnamurthy, Sheila Switzer, Lauren Tennis and Lain Sheatler were poised and confident, defeating teams from Drexel and Villanova. The championship match was York vs UPMC (including PITT graduates Andrew and Jamie!). It was an epic battle as both teams went back and forth with correct responses. The match was finally called as it was obvious that the York team was not going to miss an answer!!

Thanks for bringing the trophy back to the York NAP program before graduation!!!

As most know, Ms. Currier was an amazing woman and served as the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists president in 1967. Ms. Currier also received the Agatha Hodgins award in 1993 and at her request, this award was donated to the York Health Foundation.

Each year a single graduate is selected who best exemplifies the programs motto of vigilance, knowledge, and compassion. No graduate is more deserving than Julie Linton who has showed a level of dedication to the NAP that would be difficult to express in a single paragraph. Congratulations Julie, no certainly deserve it!!!

SOFA OUTSTANDING

The second annual SOFA Award for Outstanding Professionalism went to Amanda Derby this year. Amanda’s exemplifies professionalism in all her interactions both personally andprofessionally. Amanda has also served as an amazing resource to fellow SRNAs. The NAP program holds professionalism in high regard and we are proud to have Amanda Derby as the representative. Thanks Amanda for all your hard work!

prepared, knowledgeable, and is always willing to help others out. Great job Mike!

Dr. Michael Klein is this year’s recipient of the NAP’s Appreciation Award that was presented at the graduation dinner. Dr. Klein has supported the NAP program throughout the years and has always made himself available to talk to students and ensure that we are getting the most out of the clinical experience at York Hospital. Thank you Dr. Klein for all you do and have done for our program. Your dedication to the program and more importantly, the students is greatly appreciated!
