SACRAMENTS
We come to the last week of Easter, the holiest season of the year. The focus of Easter has been the growth of the church
and the need to be truly united with the Risen Lord and with each other. The reading from the first Letter of St. John re-
minds us of the importance of remaining in our relationship with God and living it out by loving one another.
Just as the apostles and disciples sensed the need to carry on the ministry of Jesus, we must also join with Jesus and pray
that we might further his work of spreading the Gospel. There are some who will not experience the love of God until
we reach out to them. This is true for all of us who have been invited to abide and remain in the Lord and let Him remain
and abide in us.
Love is the essence of life. It begins with God since God is love. It is manifested in the life, ministry, prayers, suffering,
death and resurrection of Jesus. We are invited to abide in God’s love and then share it with others so they, too, can ex-
perience the totality of being loved by God and remaining in that love. We need to pray for the continued outpouring of
the Holy Spirit and to be empowered to reach out to others.
We need to ask ourselves: Do I sense Jesus praying for me so that I can go out and serve the people in our world with-
out becoming worldly? How have I experienced Jesus abiding and remaining in me? What else might Jesus be asking of
me at this point in my life?
Today is also Mother’s Day. We honor our mothers who have shared their special gift of love with us. Let us remember
all our mothers, grandmothers and all women who have cared for us and shared God’s love with us. May God continue
to bless all mothers, living and dead. May they continue to be loving examples of love and care for others.

Today, we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on earth
continues through his disciples…and now through us.
When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love,
peace and joy into our hearts, into our lives and into the
hearts of those who are poor.

A Thought to Ponder while attending to your daily duties:
“The imitation of Mary includes the imitation of Christ because Mary is the first
Christian to follow Christ and she is the first and most perfect model of Christ. Indeed,
that is why the imitation of Mary is not only relevant to women but to all Christians.”

As You Sent Me into the World, So I Sent Them into
the World. – In the creation story we are told that God made human beings “in His image.” This doesn’t mean that we are exact clones or identical twins of God, but rather that each of us, in light of our unique gifts and characteristics, are created to reflect the vibrant life and loving face of God to others. God’s hand in our lives doesn’t end in creating us. Throughout our lives God gives us purpose and fills us with the gifts we need to fulfill that purpose. The challenge for us is for us to know ourselves as God knows us. Through prayer and in hu-mility we are invited to see clearly God’s will for our lives and all he has provided so that his will and our lives may be complete. God hasn’t randomly or thoughtlessly placed us in this world to create a reality for ourselves. He has sent us into the world with a specific task in mind that we might love others and build up his kingdom in the Church, making it ever more Alive!
