We are currently undergoing a project to increase the number of security cameras to the interior and exterior of the school. The cameras provide increased coverage of public spaces in and around the school to assure the safety of our school community. Summer break is one of best times to provide large scale physical improvements to the building. There will be no scheduled activities at Lisbon this summer to allow for multiple enhancements. We have complete replacement projects scheduled for our roof and tiled floors both in the building the music portable. Additionally, we are having the gym floor sanded and refinished. We are preparing an area currently used for a display case to hang a permanent art display as part of our 40th anniversary celebration. We appreciate everyone who has purchased a Pride Brick thus far and encourage everyone to take advantage of the sale prices! See the flier further down in the newsletter for details! CONGRATULATIONS: The STEM Night winners of 4 tickets to the Maryland Science Center are Kaitlyn Hill (2nd grade) and Ashley Nebel (incoming Kindergartener). Thanks to all the students that came out to enjoy STEM Night with our teachers and the Maryland Science Center. LISBON LIONS LOLLAPALOOZA: School-wide Enrichment Fair and Science Fair Who: All Lisbon Elementary School students, staff, families, and friends What: Lisbon Lions Lollapalooza Where: Lisbon Elementary School When: Monday, May 16th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Why: To celebrate our students’ learning!

- Classroom projects made by kindergartners to fifth graders - Curriculum Extension Unit (enrichment class) displays - Instructional Seminar (recess group) displays - Science Investigations, Inventions, and Collections from our scientists who completed a project at home.

On Wednesday, May 11th, students who have participated in a Curriculum Extension Unit (enrichment class), Instructional Seminar (recess group), or G/T math class this year received a letter in their classroom mailbox along with a schedule. Please ask your child to share this information with you as it contains additional details about the evening! Please email Mrs. O’Connor at [email protected] or Penny Zimring at [email protected] if you have any questions. Students who complete a science investigation, invention, or collection at home may bring their projects to the school’s media center the morning or afternoon of Monday, May 16th. Students are being asked to stand with their project to answer questions from 6:30-7:00 p.m. Please email Mrs. Thompson at [email protected] if you have any questions. Please note that at the conclusion of the evening, students are encouraged to take home their individual projects that were displayed.

Lisbon Lions Lollapalooza NEEDS YOU!: Mrs. O’Connor and Mrs. Zimring are seeking volunteers to help with the Lisbon Lions Lollapalooza, School-Wide Enrichment Fair and Science Fair, on Monday, May 16th. Volunteers are needed before the event from 3:15-4:30 p.m. to set-up in the cafeteria and gymnasium. If you can spare some time, please email [email protected] to let us know you can join us.

HCLS YOUTH MARATHON: WHAT: Keep active throughout the summer and complete a marathon (26.2 miles) one step at a time! WHO: Students in grades K-12. WHEN: Registration begins June 4 and ends August 13. Must complete your required mileage by September 5. WHERE: Register at any Howard County Library System branch or online at www.hclibrary.org/youthmarathon HOW: Learn how to log your mileage when you register.

• The first 5,000 people to register receive a pedometer to track their mileage. • If you log your required mileage by Sept. 5, complete your marathon at the Discover

Downtown Columbia 5K or Fun Run on Sept. 25 at a reduced entry fee. Finish the race to receive a medal.

This recreational soccer program, with approximately 1,200 players, provides boys and girls teams in the following age groups: Micro (ages 4 & 5), 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-18. All players registered by July 5th are guaranteed placement on a team – players registering after July 5th will be placed pending available space in the league. WHCS donates $10 for every registered Lisbon student—this has yielded $2,820 in funds to the LES PTA over the past two years!
