We went

by bus to the

Okayama

Christian Center. This time

i t was

Pauline's turn to speak for the area

women s meeting there.

Her

subject,

 She Has Done What She

Could. She

had spoken

on the

same

subject the

week

before to the Kagoshima

churches women s

meeting in

Kanoya.

The women at Okayama also expressed appreciation

for her talk. After a delightful

lunch

served by the

men, we had

a couple of hours'discussion about the points

Pauline had talked about.

The

next

morning Audrey West and

Keith Summers got us back to

Osaka

in time for the

f i r s t

plane

home.

Mid-morning,

May 18, Pauline

began

to have unbearable chest pains.

When

we got her to the hospital,

Dr.Tsuzaki took x-rays and found that a lower, left rib was

broken.

As she

had

not fallen ror bumped anything,

the

Dr.thinks it was

dueto osteoporosis - a drastic lack of

calcium

in her

bones. She was

put in a tight

bind

er

and

pretty

much

immobilized for a month. June   was her

first time

out of the house - and that to

go

to

the hospital again.

The

Dr. said the

bone

is healing slowly but properly. Pauline's pain is almost gone.

Pauline has had hers in the

The house has been

Resurrection

was a

of

preaching

and

rejoicing

in many

places

from

dawn

to

dusk.

In

Sueyoshi

we have enjoyed

th e

fellowship of new

Christian,

Kohei Hayashi, o f Kaj ik i.

Bro.

Daikusono baptized

him there, March 31 ,

but

before and af ter that he was an eager s tu de nt o f God s word each Sunday a t Sueyoshi.

I t was a p le as ur e t o teach a man so happy in his new found fai th. Pentecost was a great

season

fo r me. I

preached about th is day,

th e

birthday of th e church, three Sundays in a row.

Grandniece, Lisa

Lewis

spent

a few happy days

with

us

early in June.

She was on

he r

way back to Canada

af ter

a year of teaching a missionary

child

in Aparri, P.I .

Als o, June

13 and H we enjoyed the

vis i t

of

Susan Knudsen of Kenai,

Alaska.

Her husband,

David,

works fo r Marathon Oil and comes to

Japan once

a year

to service

the electronics

on a

special

ship

hauling liquid petroleum gas

from

Alaska.

She came

with

him

this

time.

We

gave her

a

smorgasbord of missionary exper iences in

a

very

short time.

glad

to say

that enough money was

to pay

tickets and much

of their expenses

in Japan. Again,

thanks

to

each

one

of

you who

shared.

Three experiences

to

close: (1)

I baptized a young man, a

school teacher,

and worked

closely with

him

fo r

two

years.

Early

th is

year

he

quit

coming

to c hu rc h.

He

did

however,

b ri ng h is p ro sp ec ti ve

bride,

and a

time

and

place

was

set for

a Christian

wedding.

Then he was

transferred

to a

distant city.

He came back once

to

le t

me

know no t

to think

about the

wedding anymore . He would

no t give his

new

address

and phone number.

Which means, I will

no t

be having any more

connect ion with you. n

aching

sadness

that will

no t

go away. (2)

A young woman, a convert of many

years ago,

had

not

attended

church

fo r th re e

years. Suddenly, she

phoned to

tel l me,

very happily,

that she was moving to Tokyo to work and would be attending church there faithfully.

Gladness and bewilderment. (3)

After

preaching

last

Sunday at Kushira to

near

empty pews. I choked up

telling

Pauline how

lonely

and

hopeless

I fel t . But just now a member

of

that church came to call . She was

bubbling

with

joy, with fai th, with hope,wi th p lans

fo r the f ut ur e o f

that church.

As we

all three prayed together

be

fore

she le f t

I was choked up

with

joy.   nd so was

fulf il led again.

Psalm

126:6,

 Hethat goes forth weeping

bearing the

seed

for

sowing, shall

come home with shout s of

joy,

bringing his

sheaves with him.

Dr.
