As we have already mentioned, this document only offers technical information regarding the modifications to exist ing products and the new products inthe 2007 range. It therefore concerns:

To all dealers, we would like to remind you that it is your responsibility to give the customer all wheel instructions and have them fill out the warranty guide.

It is also your responsibility to provide the customer with the following recommended Mavic wheel instructions:

Choose a suitable wheel designed for the type of riding you wish to do;

You must follow the instructions in this technical manual for tire pressure and sizes (see charts on page 17);

Respect the appropriate spoke tensions. For more specific information about each of our products, please consult the product pages, the technical manuals froprevious years or the www.tech-mavic.com website. Inappropriate spoke tension can generate much stress and quickly cause damage to the rim;

Clean the rims regularly using the Mavic soft stone (M40410); Remove stones and metal particles from the brake pads to avoid premature rim wear;

Replace the brake pads when they are worn to avoid premature rim wear;

Do not use a rim if the braking surfaces are worn, if eyelets are missing, or in any other case where safety might be compromised. The rim is a part that wears out ado brake pads, and must be replaced if it is worn (sidewall hollowed by wear, or cut out, cracked rim);

Check or have your rims checked regularly, at least at the start of each season and if possible after intensive use should you have a doubt about spoke tensions or thtype of tire used. When checking, look inside (especially under the rim tape) and outside the rim. Check for signs of fatigue or wear: deterioration of braking surfacescracks in the sidewalls or around the eyelets;

Following these recommendations will guarantee longer product life for the wheels, maximum performance and riding enjoyment.

When replacing the rear rim:1. With the valve hole near you, the 2 raised indicator bumps must be to the right of the valve hole;2. The spoke in the 1st hole to the right of the valve hole should be inserted on the drive side into a marked hub hole.

The instructions given in the UST user guide must be followed to the letter when fitting a USTTubeless tire: wet the tire beads and rim tape using soapy water, check the 2 beads of the tire arecorrectly positioned at the bottom of the rims central groove and across the base of the valve;then inflate the tire energetically until primary sealing is made.

SINCE 2004, ALL MAVIC ROAD WHEELS ARE FITTED WITH THE FTS-L FREE WHEEL BODY, AND ARE CONSEQUENTLY M10 AND ED10COMPATIBLE (YOU CHOOSE WHEN ORDERING THE WHEEL).

WHEEL MAINTENANCE

REMINDER OF THE WARRANTY

Before any repair of a Mavic wheel (or any other Mavic product), please note that it has a warranty against manufacturing or material defects for a period of 2 years fromthe date of original purchase by the original buyer (see Mavic warranty on page 36).

This means that:

During the warranty period, and when it is definitely covered by the warranty (first contact your MSC), you must return the Mavic wheel (or any other Mavic producdirectly to your MSC, following the procedure on page 35, to benefit from the Mavic warranty.

However, if you decide to repair the wheel yourself (or any other Mavic product), your customer will lose the Mavic warranty.

For repairs after the warranty period has expired, we advise you to refer to the following pages before carrying out work on the Mavic wheel. If the rim is replaced, pleanote the serial number of the new rim and the date of intervention on the original warranty card.

Only this procedure will allow your customers new rim to be covered by the Mavic warranty.

FRONT AXLE AND BEARINGS FOR CROSSMAX SLR DISC, CROSSMAX SL DISC 07 AND CROSSMAX ST DISC WHEELS

Tools needed

1 x 5 mm Allen wrench 1 hub wrench M40123

Bearing press kit M40120 (Crossmax SLR Disc and SL Disc 07) or M40373 (Crossmax ST Disc)

Unscrew the adjustment nut completeand remove the axle from the hub.

Insert the 5 mm Allen wrench intothe axle, on the opposite side to theadjustment nut, and unscrew it.

Block the adjustment nut using the hubwrench M40123.

Unclip the fork support nuts from eachside of the hub.

If the bearing cover needs replacing,slide it along the axle to remove it.

Use the bearing press kit M40120 toremove the bearings.

Use the bearing press kit M40120 orM40373 to fit the new bearings.

Remove the skewer from the wheel.

Refit the bearing cover onto the axand then replace the axle into the hufrom the disc side.

Hand screw the adjustment nut andkeep it in place using the hub wrenchM40123.

Insert the 5 mm Allen wrench in theopposite side to the adjustment nut,screw until the stop is reached andthen unscrew it by 1 turn.

Clip the fork support nuts back on, place the wheel in the fork and close the quicrelease skewer in order to adjust hub play.

Gently screw the adjustment nut using hub wrench M40123 until there is no play

The bearing cover 995 408 01 consists of 2 parts:

- The black part is only to be used on hubs with International Standard disc fixing.- The alu part is to be used in all cases.

Remove the axle end screw from thedrive side and then from the non-driveside.

Insert the 10 mm Allen wrench into theaxle on the non-drive side and the 5mm Allen wrench on the drive side,and unscrew.

Unclip the fork support nut on the non-drive side.

The axle end screw of all QRM+ hubs now comes with a dry thread lock on its thread.

This avoids inopportune loosening of the part.

This thread lock loses its effectiveness after 4 to 5 dismantling/assembly operations.The axle end screw should then be replaced.

Axle end screws can be ordered separately to complete axle units using the following references:

Remove the skewer from the wheel.

The cassette no longer has to be removed for this operation.Nevertheless, it is no longer possible to remove the cassette if the free wheel body is not fitted to the hub.

The free wheel body is no longer held in place and is easily knocked out of position.

Replace the faulty parts, screw the axle back in and refit the axle end screw (tightening torque: 10 Nm).

This new free wheel system uses the same operating principles as the FTS-L system, but integrates new parts (particularly pawls and a lip seal) to better meet the demandof intensive use.

This new system is used on all new 2007 MTB wheels. Wheels using the FTS-X system are easily identified by the factory fitted label around the free wheel body.

These new parts are 100% compatible with all road and MTB FTS-L hubs marketed since September 2000. You are therefore able to update older wheels when carryinout periodic hub maintenance.

To ensure long lasting performance of Mavic hubs, we recommend the following operations are carried out every 3000 kilometers for road use and every 1000 kilometerfor off-road use.

Depending on climatic conditions and the type of terrain (mud, very fine dust, dirty roads, rain...), this maintenance interval should be reduced.

Remove the free wheel body by turningit anti-clockwise.

Remove the pawls. Carefully remove the lip seal using apointed, non-cutting tool.

MAINTAINING AND REPLACING THE FTS-X FREE WHEEL MECHANISM

Tools needed

Mavic mineral oil M40122

A pointed, non-cutting tool

Remove the axle following the procedure for the hub in question (refer to www.tech-mavic.comor the technical manuals from previous years).

Meticulously clean the hub body, the pawls, the free wheel body, the spacer washer and the lip seal.

Push the lip seal fully home into thehub body by pushing it between thebase and the lip using a pointed, non-

cutting tool.

If you removed the plastic part from thepawls, refit it so as the spring clippingpin is in the inside bend radius of the

pawl.

Lubricate the toothed area insidethe free wheel body such that 2 to3 grooves of the free wheel body

are filled. Also place a drop of Mavicmineral oil M40122 on the seal lip.

Fit the spacer washer to the hub bodbearing, lower the pawls and refit thfree wheel body to the hub.

Refit the axle following the procedure for the hub in question (refer to www.tech-mavic.comor the technical manuals from previous years).

The new 2-part pawls wear less quickly than the pawls used up to now. It is pawl wear that is responsible for prematurely clogging up the free wheel system and thassociated malfunctioning.

The new seal has been designed to minimize the friction caused by its direct contact with the free wheel body:

A more supple material

New Teflon surface treatment.

Frictional torque is thus halved.

Hence, excessive lubrication of the seal serves no purpose: a drop of Mavic mineral oil M40122 suffices.

Use only Mavic mineral oil M40122. The use of grease or any other oil will irreparably damage the components of the free wheel system and voids th

Now screw a spoke 2 turns into thethird hole to the right of the valve hole.Do likewise for all the braking spokes,1 hole in 4 on the rim.

Screw a spoke 2 turns into the firsthole to the right of the valve hole. Dolikewise for all the non-braking spokes,1 hole in 4 on the rim.

With the valve hole near you, place therim such that the raised indicator bumpis to the left of the valve hole.

WHEEL BUILDING

REPLACING THE FRONT RIM OF CROSSMAX SLR DISC, CROSSMAX SL DISC 07 AND CROSSMAX ST DISC WHEELS

Insert the heads of these spokes intothe hub slots on the non-disc side:the non-braking spokes into the insidenotches, the braking spokes into theoutside notches.

And finally, screw a spoke 2 turns intothe first hole to the right of the valvehole. Do likewise for all the brakingspokes, 1 hole in 4 on the rim.

Turn the wheel round. Screw a spoke2 turns into the third hole to the rightof the valve hole. Do likewise for allthe non-braking spokes, 1 hole in 4on the rim.

Tighten each nipple uniformly in the rim to tension the wheel (1/2 turn of the spoke wrench for each spoke and per wheel rotation).

Set the final tension and center the wheel respecting the spoke tensions given in each product page (pages 07, 09 and 15).

Braking and non-braking spokes must not overlap: over their entire length, non-braking spokes are below the braking spokes.

spokes.

Screw the nipple of this spoke until it locks into the corresponding rim hole;

Do likewise for the remaining 5 spokes;

Tighten each nipple uniformly in the rim to tension the wheel (1/2 turn of the spoke wrench for each spoke and per wheel rotation).

Set the final tension and center the wheel respecting the spoke tensions given in the product page (page 05).

A new rim profile makes its entry into the 2007 rim range:

XM 719 DISC: A top-of-the-range Cross Mountain MTB rim combining lightweight (only 460 g) and reliability.

With the arrival of the Enduro FR segment, the EN 321 DISCreplaces theXM 321 DISC. The technical features of this rim remain unchanged. You will howevfind them on the following page.

And finally, despite their 100% new look, the Extreme MTB rims (EX 325 Disc, EX 721, EX 729 Disc and EX 823 Disc) have the same technical features: a detailedescription of these rims can therefore be found in the 2004 and 2005 technical manuals, or at www.tech-mavic.com.

CONDITIONS OF USE FOR A RIM

WHATS NEW FOR 2007

CONDITIONS OF USE TO BE GIVEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS

Mavic uses the most advanced technology in the design of its rims and wheels. However, a rim cannot last forever and wears down according to its use: typof riding, terrain, brake pad, spoke tension, tires, tire pressure, weather conditions, etc.

Each rim has been designed for a specific use and discipline (Road, Cross-Country, Freeride, Downhill, Touring). Any other use of a rim for whichhas not been designed is highly inadvisable, the sole responsibility of the user and voids the Mavic warranty.

Please advise your customers of the following points:

Choose a suitable rim designed for the type of riding you wish to do: do not use a road rim on an MTB, do not use Cross Country rims to build wheels fa bike to be used for freeride, downhill...

You must follow the instructions in this technical manual for tire pressure and sizes (see following charts);

Respect the appropriate spoke tensions. Mavic recommends spoke tensions between 70 and 90 kg (for a front or rear wheel, on the drive side with crosse3 lacing). Inappropriate spoke tension can generate too much stress and damage the rim;

Clean the rims regularly with the Mavic soft stone (M40410);

Remove stones and metal particles from the brake pads;

Replace the brake pads when they are worn;

Do not use a rim if the braking surfaces are worn, if eyelets are missing, or in any other case where safety might be compromised. The rim is a part that weaout as do brake pads, and must be replaced if it is worn (sidewall hollowed by wear, or cut out, cracked rim);

For rims fitted with a wear indicator (internal or external) do not continue to use the rim if the indicator appears (internal wear indicator) or disappears (externwear indicator) on at least one of the 2 braking surfaces;

For rims not fitted with a wear indicator, check using a depth gauge that the maximum wear on each side is not more than 0.4 mm;

Check or have your rims checked regularly, at least at the start of each season and if possible after intensive use or if you have a doubt about spoke tensioor the type of tire used. When checking, look inside (especially under the rim tape) and outside the rim. Check for signs of fatigue or wear: damage to brakin

surfaces, appearance or disappearance of the wear indicator (only on rims fitted with a wear indicator), cracks in the sidewalls or around the eyelets

Following these recommendations will guarantee longer product life for the rims, maximum performance and riding enjoyment.

Dear dealers, we would like to remind you that it is your responsibility to give the customer all component instructions and have them fill out the warrantcard.

We also advise the users of Mavic components to follow the instructions below:

Follow the conditions of use described at the top of each Mavic component product page. Any other use outside of these conditions is inadvisable, the soresponsibility of the user and voids the Mavic warranty;

Although water resistant, it is strongly inadvisable to use pressurized water on electronic and mechanical components;

It is also inadvisable to use solvents and petroleum products to clean the various components. It is preferable to use warm water, or soap and water, and dry with a cloth.

Do not leave the liquid crystal WIN-TECH screens exposed to the sun (e.g. behind the windshield of your vehicle);

Each of WIN-Techs electronic components has its own digital code. The synchronisation operation allows components of the same system to function witthe same digital code and therefore be impenetrable to outside signals. This means that each component of a system cannot be used with the componentof another system fitted to another bike.

This synchronization operation is vital for the correct operation of the system. It must be carried out before using the system for the first time andeach time one of the batteries is replaced.

Following these recommendations will guarantee longer product life for the components, maximum performance and riding enjoyment.

MAINTENANCE

Replacing the batteries: use only CR2032 batteries (computer and sensors).

Battery life: 12 to 24 months (depending on use).

Although resistant to solvents and petroleum products, it is inadvisable to use these types of products to clean the various components.

Advice: use warm water, or soap and water, and dry with a cloth.

Do not leave the computer in the sun (e.g. behind the windshield of a vehicle) when not in use.

Do not dismantle any component; this will make the warranty void.

Biking is a sport which may require intense physical activity and as such poses a risk dependent on the route and the environment. For your own safety, keean eye on the road and the traffic. Wear a helmet.

The features, shape and general presentation are subject to change without prior notification.

DISPOSING OF WORN EQUIPMENT BY PRIVATE USERS IN THE EUROPEAN UNION:

If this symbol is on the product or its packaging, it means you cannot dispose of the product as you do ordinary household waste.

On the contrary, you are responsible for disposing of worn equipment, and are required to take it to an approved electrical and electronequipment recycling point.

Separate sorting and recycling of your worn equipment preserves natural resources and ensures the equipment is recycled in such way as to respect human health and the environment.

For further information on suitable waste disposal points, please contact your town hall, your household waste collection service or thshop where you purchased the product.

COMPUTERSpeed, cadence or heart rate information is not displayed:

1 Carry out the synchronisation operation (refer to the user instructions).

2 Depending on the problem, refer to the paragraph that deals with the speed sensor, pedaling cadence sensor or chest strap.

No display on the screen:1 - Open the battery cover and check the 2 contacts are present: if a contact is missing, contact your Mavic Service Center (MSC).

2 Check battery state. If the battery reads less than 3 volts, it should be replaced.

Deterioration of computer display:


Occasional loss of data, nuisance resetting:

1 Open the battery cover and check the battery is correctly positioned against the 2 metal contacts. If contact is not made, lightly bend the contact inquestion (see photo 1 below).

SPEED SENSORNo speed information on the screen:

1 Check the magnet or magnet bracket is present.

2 - Check the position of the magnet with respect to the sensor: it must be opposite one of the 2 arrows (see photo 2 below).A magnet located between the 2 arrows causes incorrect data to be displayed.

3 Check the distance between the magnet and the sensor: 5 mm maximum.

4 - Open the battery cover and check the 2 metal contacts are present: if a contact is missing, contact your Mavic Service Center (MSC).

5 Check the battery is correctly positioned against the 2 metal contacts. If contact is not made, lightly bend the contact in question (see photo 1below).


PEDALING SENSORNo cadence information on the screen:

1 Check the magnet is present on the pedal arm.

2 - Check the position of the magnet with respect to the sensor: it must be opposite one of the 2 arrows (see photo 2 below).

A magnet located between the 2 arrows causes incorrect data to be displayed.

3 Check the distance between the magnet and the sensor: 10 mm maximum.4 - Open the battery cover and check the 2 metal contacts are present: if a contact is missing, contact your Mavic Service Center (MSC).

5 Check the battery is correctly positioned against the 2 metal contacts. If contact is not made, lightly bend the contact in question (see photo 1below).


CHEST STRAPNo heart rate information on the screen:

1 Check your customer moistened the strap before use and that it was correctly positioned: Mavic marking in the right place and centered on the chest.

2 - Open the battery cover and check the 2 metal contacts are present: if a contact is missing, contact your Mavic Service Center (MSC).

3 Check the battery is correctly positioned against the 2 metal contacts. If contact is not made, lightly bend the contact in question (see photo 1 below).


If the problem continues after having carried out all the above checks, contact your Mavic Service Center (MSC).

WIN-TECH HR AND WIN-TECH ES 07 TROUBLESHOOTING

The batteries lose part of their capacity in the cold.

Incorrect functioning may occur during an early morning ride if the batteryis at 80% of its capacity, but become normal again when the temperatureincreases.

All memorized information is lost each time the battery is removed; remember to note the information before removing the battery and to carryout the synchronisation operation again once the battery has been replaced.

GENERAL PROCEDURE FOR ALL SERVICE SUPPORT REQUESTS

1. Contact the Mavic Service Center in your geographical zone to obtain a PRODUCT RETURN NUMBER.

2. In accordance with the instructions of your Mavic Service Center, send the damaged part or product to them with a note containing the followinginformation:

Your name and address;

The product return number that was given to you. This number should also be indicated on the outside of your package;

The reason for the return; Proof of date of purchase attesting that the product was sold within the last 2 years (receipt or warranty card filled out).

WARNING: the wheels must be sent without the tire, cassette, skewer, bag or anything else in order to avoid any riskof loss or damage. To be able to process your request as quickly as possible, we ask that you follow thisprocedure.

ANY OTHER TYPE OF RETURN WILL BE REFUSED.

3. After the Mavic Service Center receives your package, it will make a diagnosis and will declare whether the damaged product is covered by the warranor not. The product will then be exchanged or repaired.

NOTE: If the warranty is refused, your Mavic Service Center will inform you about the cost of the repair. If the product cannot be repaired, it will be destroyeby Mavic unless you have given prior contrary instructions.

If you decide to repair the Mavic product, please read the preceding pages.

MAVIC WARRANTYMavic products purchased from a Mavic authorized dealer are guaranteed against manufacturing and material defects for a period of 2 years from the date original purchase, under the following conditions.

OBLIGATIONSMavic will replace or repair a product or a part considered to be defective by Mavic. This is Mavics only liability.Complementary warranties may exist according to regional laws. In France, Mavic guarantees against hidden defects as required by French law, within thconditions and limits laid down by articles 1641 and the Civil Code.
