• Bears usually stay away from people. But a surprised bear, especially a mother bear, might attack.
• If you go into the woods, make noise as you walk to let any black bears in the area know you are coming.
• Sometimes bears don’t run because they smell food. If you’re in or near a forest, always put food and garbage in an airtight container.
