A CHRISTIAN’S FUTURE - THE “BE-ATTITIDES”
I. Introduction
A. The Sermon on the Mount!
1. Begins with “The Beatitudes.”
a) Jesus taught it many times.
b) Matthew records the greater
amount of this sermon.(1) John 21:25 (2) We have all
we need!
2. It is not the gospel.a) Not particularly to the unsaved!
(1) The Law at its fulfillment!
b) No mention of the Holy Spirit!
(1) It is part OF God’s word.
B. The “be-attitudes”
1. They are what we will be.
II. Matthew 5:1-2
A. The Sermon on the Mount.
1. Natural “amphitheater”2. He is teaching “His disciples.”
III. Matthew 5:3
A. Doesn’t tell you how to become poor in spirit!
1. “blessed are” 9 times.
2. Psalm 1!a) This is the blessed life!
B. Ultimate poverty = eternally separated from the Lord!
1. For those who need a Savior!
IV. Matthew 5:4
A. Not just plain “mourning.”
1. 1Thessalonians 4:9-14 a) We shall be comforted. (1) We will see our
loved ones! (a) Hurts have purpose.
V. Matthew 5:5
A. Not in effect today.
1. The “gentle” have not inherited the earth! a) Fruit of the spirit. b) Galatians 5:22-23
(1) How do we become meek?
(2) Gentleness is not weakness.
(a) Need to lay down our
pride! VI. Matthew 5:6
A. The world hungers for many things.
1. 1Corinthians 2:142. No righteous apart
from the Lord!a) To hunger after
righteousness = to hunger after the
Lord!(1) He delights in
satisfying.
VII. Matthew 5:7
A. How does the Christian obtain mercy?
1. Titus 3:3-7a) Through Jesus!
(1) He gave it.b) We are to show
mercy through Jesus!
(1) We should give it.(a) It was a gift.
VIII. Matthew 5:8
A. Romans 3:10-12; 3:23
1. Cleansing power of Jesus’ blood!
a) We are made pure!
(1) To see the Lord Himself!
IX. Matthew 5:9
A. One true Peacemaker = Jesus!
1. His plan of salvation.2. By accepting that plan!
a) Christians called “sons of God”!
X. Matthew 5:10
A. Still be evil present during the Millennium.
1. Revelation 20:7-9
2. Kingdom of heaven still ours!
XI. CONCLUSION
A. Matthew 5:11-12
1. New disciples hearing this.
a) It was worth it all!
