Anakin Seal Summer BBQ a real sizzler

RICS MATRICS Greater Manchester headed to Chester Racecourse for an evening of racing on 26th August.

A coach full of Surveyors attended the event from Manchester, which was sponsored by Beresford Blake Thomas. The usual scenes of glamorous ladies in outrageous dress and slick suited men filled the enclosure and the RICS matrics party made home outside the Champagne tent (typical surveyors!)

The champagne was need by many to numb the pain of their wager on “three legged donkeys” trailing in last and many a torn betting slip was thrown on the floor in frustration! Thankfully there wasn’t too far to stagger back to the beer tent to drown their sorrows!

In traditional British summer style, the rain clouds loomed overhead as the last horse passed the post. And boarding the bus home were several surveyors clutching much lighter wallets. The moral of the story - ask a surveyor property advice but never listen to their tips on the racing!!!

The coach made its way back into Manchester for around 8pm, with the night continuing in one or two local bars! After this the night gets a bit hazy...

A big thank you to the event sponsors Beresford

Saturday 15 July saw the national finals of the rICS matrics 5-a-side tournament.

In the soaring heat, the teams gathered at the venue, Brunel university, uxbridge, to battle it out for the prestigious rICS matrics 5-a-side trophy.

after a briefing of the rules, play commenced. With the sun now beating down, tempers became a little frayed as the afternoon rolled on. displays of skill and sheer

determination were not uncommon as the two top teams from each division progressed to the semi-finals.

Gerald Eve narrowly lost out in a 1-0 defeat by davis Langdon whilst Pinepeak and Copping Joyce battled it out in an epic match that was eventually decided on penalties with Pinepeak coming out on top.

the final was a close run affair between Pinepeak

and davis Langdon with Pinepeak going ahead before davis Langdon pulled one back. With only a couple of minutes left to play and the match heading for extra-time, Pinepeak scored after a well constructed team move before hanging on for the final whistle.

Congratulations to Pinepeak, the rICS matrics 5-a-side champions 2006 and a big thank you to all the teams and players who took part. n

Golfers feel the heat!this year’s regional golf competition proved to be on eof the hottest ever and we’re not just referring to the weather. On Wednesday 26th July, 28 golfers took to denton Golf Club to compete for the Linney Cup. the course proved tricky for most but a number of inspired performances set the prize winners out from the pack.

taking first place was Ian Sullivan off drivers Jonas who shot an outstanding 42 points to win by 4. Ian will represent Manchester in the rICS matrics National Final in august. andrew Mackie of atis real squeezed into second place by a hairs breadth following a card play off after an impressive 38 points. In the longest drive competition the big hitter of the day was alex taylor of taylor Weaver whose 300 yard drive into a strong wind was an almighty blow. Playing in the last group of the day rob taylor of Colliers CrE took the nearest the pin prize.

rICS matrics Greater Manchester would like to thank Spence Looker for sponsoring the event and andrew Mackie of atis real and adam White of Jones Lang La Salle for organising the event. n
