RADIATION SAFETY PROGRAM

A. Transportation of Equipment

1. All possible means shall be provided to ensure that theequipment is fully secured in the transporting vehicle;and, the equipment is away from the passengercompartment. When transporting in an enclosed vehicle(car or van) the vehicle will be locked. Whentransporting in an open bed vehicle, the gauge should besecurely fastened and locked to the truck bed.

2. The gauge will be transported in the Troxlertransportation case. The U.S. Department of

Transportation requires that the gauge be transported ina properly labeled carrying case.

B. Utilization Procedures

1. When the gauge is in the field, you as the authorizeduser must maintain control over the gauge at all times.The gauge must never be left unattended.

2. When not making measurements, the gauge should be placedin the transportation case, and returned to its permanentstorage area as soon as possible. The gauge is to beused for its intended use only, by doing so you willmaintain any radiation exposure to as low as reasonablyattainable.

3. When using the equipmerit, you will wear the personnel i

monitoring device thut hAs been assigned to you. Whenyou are not using the equipment, your monitoring deviceis to be stored in the rediction free area that has been ;

designated in the office.

C. Maintenance Procedure

1. Periodic maintenance will include cleaning the gauge.During any maintenanca, you must wear your personnelmonitoring device. t

2. Na maintenance will be performed in which the radioactivesource is removed from the gauge. For this type ofmaintenance, the gauge will be returned to the

manufacturer..

D. Storage

1. Upon return to the office the gauge is to be locked inthe storage cabinet to prevent any unauthorized access.
