Mental Maths startersChoose one of the challenges to complete. These should be quick
starters lasting about 5 minutes.
ActivitiesWe have included some different activities for each day. You can choose whether you would like to do the ‘Activity Time’ or the
Maths No Problem workbook pages if they have not already been completed.

these numbers down.
After 3 minutes look at the numbers you have found. Can you say all of the numbers out loud?
Save these numbers for our starters for the rest of the week.
Monday Starter
Monday 1st June
L.O – To recognise numbers up to 100
• I can recognise numbers up to 50. • I can recognise numbers up to 100.• I can represent a number in different ways.
Both of these pictures show the same number of crayons.
Discuss which one is easier to count.
Why do you think this?
As seen with the crayons, numbers can be shown in different ways. It is easier to group objects into tens to count rather than count them all separately.
Both of these show 28.Which one is easier to count?
Activity Time!Choose your challenge: green, amber or red!
Use the number line below. Can you count forwards from 35 to 46?Can you count back from 46 to 38?Can you do this without using the number line?
I am counting from 24 to 38.
Will I say the number 39?Will I say the number 29? Will I say the number 19?
Write down and explain how you know.
Mrs Gibbons and Miss Harris have beendoing some counting. Are they correct?Write down and explain how you know.

L.O – To represent numbers up to 100
• I can say how many tens and ones a number has. • I can use a part part whole diagram to show numbers.
Numbers can be shown in many different ways. You could use tens frames, part-part whole models, number lines, money and so many more.
What number have I shown here?
Two tens and 3 ones

Activity Time!Choose your challenge, green, amber or red!

L.O – To compare numbers up to 100
• I can say which number is bigger. • I can say which number is smaller. • I can use inequality signs to compare numbers.
Each pile of coins has 10 in.
How can this help you find out who has the most coins?
Finding out how many tens and ones can help you work out who has the most and who has the least.
The crocodile (inequality sign) likes to eat the biggest number.
69 < 75
69 > 63
Activity Time!Choose your challenge, green, amber or red!Choose 2 of the numbers to compare from the box. Use the inequality sign (< or >) to show which number is bigger.

Friday Starter
Mental Maths StarterUse the numbers you found on Monday to say how many tens and ones each number has. Maybe some even have hundreds.
E.g. 167 – one hundred, six tens and 7 ones.
Choose 3 of your numbers to do this for.
Thursday 4th June
L.O – To order numbers within 100
• I can say which number is bigger.• I can say which number is smaller.• I can put numbers in order from smallest to biggest / biggest to
smallest.
When ordering numbers we need to look at both the tens and the ones. This will help us to put them in the correct order. When looking at two-digit numbers, the digit on the left represents ‘tens’ and the digit on the right represents ‘ones’.
Here are some numbers that need to be put in order from smallest to biggest.
34 52 38 27
First I would look at the tens of each number to find out which one is the smallest.
34 52 38 27
I can see that the 27 only has 2 tens, the others have 3 tens and 5 tens. Next I can see that 34 and 38 both have 3 tens. This means I now need to look at the ones. 34 has 4 ones and 38 has 8 ones. 4 is smaller than 8 so 34 must be next. This leaves 52 as the biggest number.
27 34 38 52smallest biggest
Activity Time!Choose your challenge, green, amber or red!Put the numbers in order from smallest to biggest. Can you put them in order from biggest to smallest?
1. 12 6 17
2. 13 20 11
3. 15 9 14
1. 25 36 24
2. 39 15 32
3. 25 20 19 22

2. 13 26 40 32
3. 69 51 76 98
