About our Maths Lessons…
Our lessons are in five stages:
• Starter: Children to do this on their own
• Teacher input: Teacher to teach children new lesson
• Guided practice: Children to have a go at completing questions based on what they have just learnt. They will do this with their teacher.
• Workbook: Children to complete their workbook with less support from an adult. Help where needed.
• Plenary: A summary of the learning: adults to come up with a few questions to quiz children on what they have learnt. Plenary questions are not included in this PowerPoint.
Day 1
L.O – To count to numbers within 20. Children to create a group of 10 first then count on the ‘ones’.
• I can make groups of 10
• I can find 10 in a picture and circle it
• I can count on from 10
Mental Maths Time!
How many number sentences can you make using the following numbers?
10 6 4
17 3 20
You can use + - and =
How many units are in a tens frame? Can you spot any patterns in the tens frame? (e.g. rows of 5) If you had two tens frames that made 14 how many more units are needed to make 20?
Are there any objects around your house that you can use to show these numbers? Can you write a number sentence for each number? E.g. 10+1=11
Day 2
L.O – To read and write numbers to 20 in words and numerals.
• I can write the numerals for 1-20
• I can write the words for 1-20
• I can make groups of 10 and count on with or without using tens frames.
Practise writing these numbers. Have you formed your numbers correctly? Choose a number – can you write the number in words without looking?
Day 3
L.O – To use greater than and less than to compare numbers
• I can use ‘more’ to compare numbers
• I can use ‘fewer’ to compare numbers
What strategies can you use to count the people? Is it accurate to do it by just looking and guessing or should we use counters to represent each person? What is the difference between the two bus stops?
Day 4
L.O - To arrange numbers to 20 in ascending and descending order
• I can use the language greater than and less than
• I can order numbers from smallest to greatest and greatest to smallest
• I can compare numbers
What do you notice about the numbers? What do all of the teen numbers have in common? What is the difference between 11 and 15? What pattern would you notice if we carried on beyond 20?
Page 107-110 in MNP book Challenge: can you order the numbers from smallest to biggest or biggest to smallest? What is the difference between the numbers?
