Warm up: Number Bonds

Write out...● number bonds to 10 10+0, 9+1, 8+2…

● number bonds to 20 20+0,19+1,18+2…

● number bonds to 100 100+0, 99+1, 98+2…

● Challenge - random number bonds to 1000 944+56, 788+212, 501+499…

Write out or draw as shown in the picture to the right. Share a photo on Seesaw (SS).

Watch this refresher video about telling the time

Telling the Time Memory Game

Make some pairs of cards that match, like the ones pictured. One has the digital time, one has the analogue time. Make lots of different pairs.

Mix them up and set them out upside down on a table or on the carpet. Turn over two cards at a time. See if you can find the matching digital and analogue times. If they match, you keep the cards. If they don’t, turn them over again and it is the next person’s turn.

Cool down:

Learning Intention: Tell the time on an analogue clock.

Can you draw it?

Draw the hands on the clocks to match the digital times written. You will have to draw your own clocks. Use something round from home. Start with 12, 6, 3, 9 on your clock then fill in the missing numbers. This will help you space them out.

See if someone at home can complete this task, too. Do their answers look the same as yours?

Share on Seesaw (SS) if you wish.

Learning Intention: Tell the time on an analogue clock.

Multiplication BattleshipDraw up two battleship boards similar to those in the picture. Place your ships around one board - aircraft carrier (5 spaces), battleship (4 spaces), submarine (3 spaces), destroyer (3 spaces), patrol boat (2 spaces).

Take turns bombing each other’s board in an attempt to sink your partner’s ships.

Bomb a space on your partner’s board by saying the equation (with the answer) that matches where you want to bomb. For example, 5x8=40. This means 5 across, 8 down.

Record your attempted hits on a smaller board.

Cool down:

Learning Intention: Develop instant recall of our times tables.

Extension to the problem - Think of Sara’s table being extended forever in both directions. Which numbers are missing? What numbers appear only once? How many times does 60 occur?

Learning Intention: Solve problems involving patterns.

See if you have some toothpicks in the cupboard. If not, complete the above challenge by drawing lines on paper. Share your thinking on Seesaw (SS).

Learning Intention: Devise and use problem solving strategies to explore situations mathematically

Some ideas: guess and check, be systematic, make a drawing, use equipment, or make a table.

Use counters or perhaps borrow five coins belonging to an adult to play this game. Challenge someone to a number of games. (Perhaps the winner gets to keep the coins!)Extension: Play the game with a different number of counters/coins. Does the strategy change?

Learning Intention: Devise and use problem solving strategies to explore situations mathematically.

Mathematics - Online practice

Do some online maths with Sumdog.

Do some online maths with Matific.

Use Prototec Maths to practise your basic facts.

Use e-ako - a New Zealand maths learning programme.

Learning Intention: Practise the quick recall of basic facts.
