Let’s listen to a song on less than and greater than and equal to.

The symbols < (less than) , > (greater than) and = (equal to) are usually placed in mathematical sentences to compare numbers.Examples:

1. 345 > 324 means 345 is greater than 3242. 156 < 100+60+8 means 156 is less than 1683. 100 + 200 = 200 + 100 means 300 is equal to 300

Let us see if we know the correct symbol to use in the four number sentences below.

206 _____ 210

92 ____ 84

763 ____ 769

200+ 100+ 24 = 300+ 20 + 4

Let’s say the symbols < , > or = to make the number sentences true.

1. 190 _____ 234

2. 144 _____ 413

3. 324 _____ 333

4. 120 ______ 128

5. 876 -10 ______ 866

Let’s write the correct symbols to complete the money number sentences below. 1. $120.50 ______ $120.05

2. $375.00 ______ $357.00

3. $600.00 _______$400.00

4. $50.00 + $50.00 ______ $100.00

5. $20.00 + $20.00 ______ $60.00
