For his fourteenth birthday, Mohammed Jassim decided to invite a number of his friends. He decided to take them out for a day of fun to the mall near where he lives. Mohammed researched the catering companies in his area. He chose two: Catering R Us and All Things Catered 4 Us. He is trying to decide between the two catering companies, using

the algebra he learned in class.

Option 1 : Catering R Us charges a fee of 800 and 15 AED per person.

Option 2 : All Things Catered 4 Us charges 200 AED fee and 30 AED per person.

Part 2 :Set up an excel sheet in which to record the

cost for each option for inviting 5, 15, 25, 35, and 45 friends. Use the expression you

developed in part 1.

200+30(50)=1700c) Find the exact number of persons that each of the two catering companies can accommodate for the same amount. How

much will the amount be? Show your complete solution.

Part 2:Mohammed has 950 AED available to spend on his birthday party. How many friends can he

invite under each of the catering options? Set up an equation for each option and solve it to

find out how many friends (person) that he can invite under each option.

Part 3:Mohammed hates to waste food and beverages.

He does not like to be embarrassed in front of his friends either for not providing enough to eat and

drink. He determines that 40 person plus or minus 10% is a good number. Write and solve an absolute value equation to find the maximum and

minimum number of friends that Mohammed should invite to his party.

|x-40|= 4x-40 = + or

- 4x-40 = 4

x-40 = -44+40=4

4x=44

-4+40=3

6x=36

S = { 44,36 }8

Part 1:Three groups, Group A, Group B, Group C, of Mohammed's friends decided to buy a watch as a memorable gift for his birthday. They contributed 1200 AED in the ratio of 3:4:5 .

How much did each group contribute? A/3 + B/4 = C/5=

A+B+C/12A/3 =B/4 = C/5 = 100/1

A/3 = 100/1 A=30

0B/4 = 100/1 B=40

0C/5 = 100/1C=50

Part 2:

a) What is the percentage is the highest contribution with respect to the total?

b) What is the percentage is the lowest contribution with respect to the total?
