So, it is important to consider whether you need them for a temporary period or long-term. Also, you need to consider the material like foam or plastic, the design, etc. If we take a look at the materials, there are a number of options available.

CORK :

This is an attractive and durable material used in certain types of in-shoe lifts. It is lightweight, affordable and does not crush easily. These cork lifts are available in various heights and sizes. These corks are covered with vinyl and leather to give protection to the cork. It helps in keeping the cork safe for a long time.

These corks can also be used above or under the insole. This is particularly ideal for leg length difference and easily fits into any shoe. Another feature of this cork is, it can be easily cut with a knife and adheres well with adhesives.

Solid Plastic :

Solid plastic is more durable than cork and available in various heights along with sizes. These lifts are made for placing beneath the insole. It simply adds height to the shoe. As the inner shape of shoes are different like, flat, curved, wide, narrow, etc., solid plastic becomes rigid while inserting.

Foam Rubber :

For comfortable shoe inserts, foam may not be a great option like cork. The rubber material creates more cushion under the foot by creating more heel motion. If a thick layer is added to the shoe, then it may cause ankle sprain, instability while walking and creates difficulty in foot placement. But, when this type of material is used in one shoe, it adds effective height and comfort.

Therefore, it is essential to choose the right material as, each material differs from the other in quality and functionality. After the shoe remodeling, it should not create additional foot motion.
