Adorable Ideas Woven Backpack By Sue Ann Obremski Word count: Narrative: These backpacks are made using fabric you created with strips of fabric or ribbon woven together. This technique can be used with the ES Friends backpack pattern, that is the one used here, or one of your own patterns. The John Deer embroidery designs give the backpacks a special originality. The denim backpack is a fun sporty look and the teal scroll is a classy look and a creative use of alphabets. Then they are finished off with a coordinating change purse created in the hoop. - Be sure the strips are close together so you don’t see any of the Armo Weft - Once you are happy with the weave, press in place. - Place the front and back pattern pieces on newly created woven fabric and outline the pattern pieces on your fabric using chalk marker - Stay stitch along the chalk outline (this helps keep the weave in place) Note: Do not cut out the pattern pieces yet, it is best to do this after you have embroidered your designs on the front and back. Step 2 – Embroider the backpack front and back Modular Monkeys on Denim

Monkey Design 1: - Using the software edit program import three of the Monkeys from the

Modular Monkey embroidery pack and position the monkeys to stack on top of one another and rotate each of them to the desired position. (Design 1) Monkey Design 2:

- Design 2 is the monkey that comes out from the side of the backpack and you need to remove some of the bottom of the monkey so it looks like it is coming around the corner.

- Select one of the monkey designs and bring it into Custom Works and remove the bottom part of the monkey. By editing the monkey and using the lasso to remove the section of the monkey you don’t want to stitch out. (Design 2). If you don’t want to edit out any of the monkey then you will just position the monkey design on the edge of the front of your woven fabric and embroider the single monkey.

Swirl Alphabet Designs on Ribbon

- The exciting part of these designs is they are created from a letter. The Swirl Alphabet Design Pack makes fantastic designs and it’s hard to determine they are letters. So many times we have alphabet design packs and use them infrequently. With the Swirl Alphabet pack select one of the letters to make your designs. The letter used in the Ribbon Backpack is the letter D.

- Using the software edit program import a letter, then copy and paste it and rotate it, joining it with the first letter. Once you have it the way you want it save it.

- Create as many different designs as you want saving them as you go. - Using the large hoop measurements, or in your software bring up your hoop

outline and then bring your designs into the hoop outline and scatter the designs to cover the front pattern piece. Save your design(s). Or you can plan on stitching the designs out one at a time.

Embroider Backpack Front and Back pieces

- For the Modular Monkeys (Design 1) position it off center of the front pattern piece that you have chalked out on the woven fabric you created. Mark the vertical and horizontal positioning lines.

- Hoop the fabric and tear away stabilizer centering the design by lining up the horizontal and vertical lines.

- Remove the embroidered from the hoop and position Design 2, mark the vertical and horizontal positioning. Hoop your fabric and stabilizer then stitch out Design 2.

- Randomly stitch a couple monkeys on the back. Embroidery is complete for the front and back.

- For the Swirl Alphabet designs mark the location on the front pattern piece

that you have chalked out on the woven fabric you created. Mark the vertical and horizontal positioning lines.

- Hoop the fabric and tear away stabilizer centering the design by lining up the horizontal and vertical lines.

- Stitch out your design. - Remove from the hoop and repeat the above steps to stitch out as many

Swirl Alphabet designs as you desire.
