Master Resilience Training (MRT) is a 10-day program which is derived, in part, from the Penn Resilience Program.

MRT provides sergeants in the U.S. Army with knowledge of resilience skills and techniques on how to relay these skills

to their soldiers.

This program is intended for service members.

A public search failed to identify any published evaluations of MRT that met the Clearinghouse’s evaluation criteria.

MRT is taught in two stages. First, a short, educational presentation is given by the

sergeants to their soldiers. Then, attendees break into group discussions and perform

role-playing and different application exercises to learn the material rsthand. The three

main components are:

• Preparation is taught the rst eight days of MRT. This element covers topics

including skills such as mental toughness, communication strategies, and

identifying character strengths.

• Sustainment is taught the ninth day of MRT and focuses on maintaining resiliency

in leadership education throughout the deployment cycle and over the course of a

military career.

• Enhancement is taught the nal day of MRT and highlights key skills such as,

condence, goal setting, attention control, energy management, and imagery.

MRT was initiated in November 2009, and it has been used by the United States Army since then.

MRT operates through a train-the-trainer model in which sergeants are taught the information and are then asked to

train the soldiers under their command.

Services interested in implementing MRT will be required to send non-commissioned ofcers to a 10-day training

session. Services must decide whether this program will be mandatory or voluntary for soldiers.

The Clearinghouse can help address these considerations. Please call 1-877-382-9185, or [email protected]

If you are interested in implementing MRT, the Clearinghouse is interested in helping you!

Please call 1-877-382-9185, or email [email protected]

To move the MRT program to the Promising category on the Clearinghouse Continuum of Evidence, at least one evalu-

ation should be performed demonstrating positive effects lasting at least six months from program completion.

The Clearinghouse can help you develop an evaluation plan to ensure the program components are meeting your

goals. Please call 1-877-382-9185, or email [email protected]
