Master of Science (SUSTAINABLE URBAN DESIGN)

SYNOPSIS

THE ONLY INNOVATION FOCUSSED MASTERS BY COURSE WORK THAT ADDRESSES CURRENT LOCAL AND GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ISSUES IN THE DESIGN OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT IN MALAYSIA

SYNOPSIS

Interdisciplinary program, crossing the field of architecture, environmental planning, landscape architecture and environmental engineering. It provides graduates with the skills of dealing with issues of designing cities that address the sustainable development agenda.

The program is targeted for those with architecture, town planning and landscape architecture background.

Those from other disciplines will still be considered subject to their work experiences and passing the interview.

MODE AND DURATION

• Taught Course

• 3 Semesters Full Time /4-6 Semesters Part Time

• Total Credits: 45 With 15 Credits Taken Per Semester

• Conducted using two different time mode depend on the mode preferred by majority of the students.

- evening classes ( 3 evening classes per week : 6pm – 11pm)

- weekend classes (conducted on Saturday and Sunday)

• Semester One: 1 Core Course, 1 University Subject, 1 Elective And 1 Studio (Practical Design Project)

• Semester Two: 1 University Subject, 1 Elective, Masters Project 1 And 1 Studio

• Semester Three: 1 University Subject, 1 Masters Project And 2 Electives

• International Collaboration – Short Stint To Do Joint Projects With Other Universities Overseas

CAREER PROSPECTS• Enhance the skills as a Town Planner, Architect and Landscape

Architect working in private consulting firms, developers, government departments and local authorities.

• As design consultant to master plan for housing, township, building complexes projects, building design within urban setting etc.

• Conduct studies and Townscape Appraisal to determine character and identity of places and identify potential projects in the city.

• Interpret Planning policies into physical design solution.

• Formulate Urban Design Guidelines and Design Briefs for important urban sites.

• Prepare Development Proposal Report (LCP) to describe the urban design implications of proposals.
