MPH Program Overview

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health - IIHMR University’s Master of Public Health (MPH) has been

designed by leveraging the core strength of both the institutions, to uniquely poised to meet the needs of Indian

students as well as those confronting public health changes in Southeast Asian Region. The program combines the

JHSPH's excellence in Public Health education with the IIHMR’s expertise in Health Management and Research in

Southeast Asia. These strengths are visible in the curriculum of this exciting program.

Since 2013, the Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH), Baltimore, Maryland, USA in

cooperation with the IIHMR University, Jaipur has been offering MPH degree program in Jaipur, India for Indian

students as well as those from Southeast Asian Region.

Program Duration:

The Master of Public Health (MPH) Program is a two-year full-time degree program. The MPH program 2020-2022 will commence from October 2020.

Learning Pedagogy:

The pedagogy in each course is selected judiciously, with an emphasis on involving the students in learning and helping them to relate concepts and theories to real-world situations in public health and its management. The program is conducted with intensive teaching and learning methods which includes coursework, capstone project in the first year and practicum experience in the second year all cumulatively totaling to eighty two credits.

Course Work:

The MPH program offers students unique opportunity to attend the academically rigorous courses offered at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH), Baltimore, USA and IIHMR University, Jaipur.

The courses are taught by distinguished faculty members from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and IIHMR University; who have contributed in meeting the challenges of public health and health care management nationally and internationally.

Capstone Project:

The capstone project is a requirement of the MPH program also an opportunity for students to work on public health practice projects that are of particular

interest to them. The goal is for students to synthesize, integrate and apply the skills and competencies they have acquired during the program.

Practicum:

Special emphasis is placed on practical training, whereby the students are required to conduct a significant practicum experience in population-based health prior to graduation. A practicum experience involves a mentored in population-based health prior to graduation. A practicum experience involves a mentored hands-on experience working and interacting with public health professionals.

Winter Institute at JHSPH, USA and Travel Scholarship:

The students will travel to Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH), Baltimore, USA for attending the Winter Institute in January 2021. Students will be given scholarship from IIHMR University for attending the Winter Institute at JHSPH which includes International and local travel expenses for Jaipur-Baltimore- Jaipur trip and lodging arrangements in USA during the coursework.

Program Objectives:

The overreaching goal of this MPH program is to

provide students with a population perspective on

health build knowledge and skills to perform as an

effective manager, leader or administrator in health

systems, both in public and private sector. The MPH

program is designed to provide students with critical

multidisciplinary training to help solve global public

health problems.

The full-time MPH program aims to develop students'

competencies in the following core areas:

Epidemiology | Biostatistics | Environmental

Health Sciences | Public Health Biology | Health

Management and Functional Management | Social

and Behavioral Sciences | Public Policy | Ethics

• Total fee payable in India is one-third of the fee payable at Johns Hopkins University, USA for the same program.

Application Requirements at SOPHAS (School of Public Health

Application Service)

• Curriculum Vitae/Resume (*to be uploaded with the application).

• Two Pages Personal Statement (*to be uploaded with the application). SOP should contain the strength,

leadership ability, team work, voluntary services, achievements, purpose for choosing the Public Health for

adding weightage to your application.

• Three Letters of Recommendation – Electronically through SOPHAS.

SOPHAS cannot receive official letters through the postal service.

• Transcript from each academic institution attended beyond secondary/high school.

• Official TOEFL Scores – send to SOPHAS in Massachusetts use code 5688.

• Official GRE Scores – send to JHSPH at SOPHAS 3738 /or GMAT Scores should be sent to KGB-3R-06.

• Official Credential Evaluation of all Foreign Transcripts (all colleges/universities outside of U.S. that you have

attended) should be sent through World Education Services or WES. The CAS provider you should choose is SOPHAS.

• In order to expedite the review of your application, please send unofficial copies of all university transcripts to

JHSPH directly.

Admissions Criteria

Interested individuals from India and Southeast Asian Region must have:

• A bachelor's degree.

• A minimum of two years of experience full time health related

experience beyond the bachelor's / master's degree. (Work

experience is waived for Ph.D. and M.B.B.S. graduates).

• Prior college-level mathematics courses, prior college-level

biology course and another health-related course.

• Demonstrated English proficiency to prior degree, TOEFL or

IELTS.

• Demonstrated quantitative and verbal skills through GRE, MCAT,

LSAT, or GMAT. (Applicants with degrees beyond the bachelor's

degree may request a waiver of standardized test scores if they are other sources of quantitative

abilities).

The applicant will receive a confirmation mail from IIHMR-U after the receipt of the

documents in STEP-1. If the student found eligible then a pre-approval email for the

application will be sent to the candidate by IIHMR University, followed by another email from

JHSPH with an invitation to complete the online MPH application through SOPHAS (School of

Public Health Application Service) on the weblink http://sophas.org/program-finder/. In

order to be considered for admission, the candidate has to submit the completed application

(fully submitted application along with the application fee of US $ 135) by July 01, 2020.

Applicants seeking admission to the JHSPH-IIHMR MPH program should go through a prescreening

process for prior approval from IIHMR University before applying for the program at SOPHAS. Applicants
