Locally and internationally there’s a growing demand for project managers with the right skills and practices in dev ops, agile practices, process re-engineering, infrastructure integration, self-defined software development and IT service contracting. The Master of IT Project Management equips developing IT professionals with the skills to design, implement and manage software development projects throughout their lifecycle. These skills include planning, team facilitation, risk and change management for IT projects.

Practical components like the Research and Development Project will give you opportunities to apply what you learn in class to the real world. Our strong industry partnerships with companies like Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Fiserv, Datacom, Deloitte, Advanti and Air New Zealand will also help you gain valuable experience as part of your study.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSMinimum entry requirementsMust have completed one of the following (or equivalent):• A relevant four-year bachelor’s degree¹; or• A relevant bachelor’s degree with honours¹; or• A relevant postgraduate diploma¹; or• A bachelor’s degree or graduate diploma¹ and a relevant

professional qualification And must have:• Relevant information technology work experience

approved by the dean (or their representative) to be equivalent to one year of advanced study.

English language requirementsIELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher; or equivalent

WHAT YOU STUDYThis programme is a two-semester, full-time master’s degree designed to enhance the practice of IT professionals as they move into managerial and project leadership roles in the ICT sector. The degree focuses on the key project management aspects of change management, team facilitation, contracting and project process, and implementation skills needed in software engineering projects.

• Demonstrate knowledge of the advanced aspects of IT project management including IT project portfolios in organisations, planning, strategic alignment, managing IT driven change, vendor management, risk and complexity

• Critically evaluate a range of theories, models, frameworks, and practices leading to software engineering project success

• Analyse problems from multiple points of view and make high-level independent judgements in a digital transformation environment

• Articulate and communicate independent knowledge and ideas appropriate for the problem context, stakeholders, and the needs of a software engineering project

• Evaluate, justify and articulate an appropriate response to ethical, organisational and IT issues and dilemmas in a multi-stakeholder project environment
