that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffer-
ing, and you give them Easter hope and joy.

MARCH 21, 2021 FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
...Fr. David Regan
On April 11, 2021 we will honor and celebrate Divine
Mercy Sunday. This Solemnity was instituted by St. Pope
John Paul II on April 30, 2000. He declared “It is
important that we accept the whole message that comes
to us from the word of God on this Second Sunday of
Easter, which from now on throughout the Church, will be
called ‘Divine Mercy Sunday.’” By these words, “The
whole message” the Holy Father was referring to the
strict connection between the “Easter Mystery of the
Redemption” the suffering, death, burial, resurrection,
ascension and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at
Pentecost.
In this regard, the Holy Father also said, citing the
Responsorial Psalm of the Sacred Liturgy, “the Church
sings… as if receiving from Christ’s lips these words of
the Psalm” (That is, give thanks to the Lord for He is
good: His steadfast love (MERCY) endures forever
(Ps. 118:1). The Holy Father further developed the
connection as he states: “This comes from the lips of the
risen Christ, who bears the great message of Divine
Mercy and entrusts its ministry to the Apostles in the
Upper Room: ‘Peace be with you, as the Father has sent
Me, so I sent you… receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive
the sins of any they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of
any, they are retained” (Jn 20:21-23).
The Holy Father said, “Before speaking these words,
Jesus shows His hands and His side. He points, that is,
to the wounds of the Passion, especially the wounds in
His Heart, the source from which flows the great wave of
mercy poured out for humanity.”
“From that Heart, Sister Faustina… whom from now on
we will call a saint, will see two rays of light shining from
that Heart and illuminating the world: ‘The two rays,’
Jesus Himself explained to her one day, ‘represented
blood and water’ (Diary 299).
“Blood and water! We immediately think of the
testimony given by the Evangelist John, who, when a
soldier on Calvary pierced Christ’s side with his spear,
sees blood and water flowing form it (John 19:34).
Moreover, if the blood recalls the sacrifice of the Cross
and the gift of the Eucharist, the water… represents not
only Baptism but also the gift of the Holy Spirit (Jn 3:5;
4:14; 7:37-39).
“Divine Mercy reaches human beings through the
Heart of Christ crucified: ‘Tell, my daughter, (All people)
that I am Love and Mercy itself ‘Jesus will ask of
Sr. Faustina (Diary 1074). Christ pours out this mercy for
all humanity through the sending of the Holy Spirit who,
in the Trinity, is the Person-Love. And is not mercy love’s
‘send name (Rich in Mercy, 7), understood in the deepest
and most tender aspect, in its ability to take upon itself
the burden of any need and especially, in its most
immense capacity for forgiveness.”
From this teaching of the Holy Father on that most
solemn occasion of his “presenting the life and witness
of St. Faustina to the whole Church as a gift of God to our
time,” It can be deduced that the most opportune time,
the most proper one, for the solemn honoring of the
Divine Mercy falls immediately after the Paschal Feast
of Easter, recalling the attaining of our Redemption.
St. Augustine called the eight days of Easter ‘Days of
mercy and pardon’. He calls the Sunday of this Paschal
Octave “…the summary of the days of mercy.” (Sermon
156, Dom. In Albis). We honor this day by: 1) Celebrat-
ing Sunday (going to Mass); 2) Sincerely repenting of all
our sins; 3) Placing our complete trust in Jesus; 4) Going
to Confession; 5) Receiving Holy Communion in a state
of Sanctifying Grace; 6) Venerating the Image of Diving
Mercy; and 7) Being merciful!

MARCH 21, 2021 FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
...Fr. David Regan
la Sagrada Comunión en estado de Gracia Santificante;
6) Venerar la imagen de la misericordia que se zambulle;
y 7) ¡Ser misericordioso!

HOLY WEEK LITURGIES at Holy Name of Mary
Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021
Masses: Saturday - 5:00pm
Sunday - 7:15am, 9:00am, 11:00am
Spanish Masses: 1:00pm and 7:00pm
Monday, March 29, 2021
Reconciliation: 3:00pm-9:00pm
(Priests are available to hear Confessions every
Saturday, 3:30pm-4:30pm, except Holy Saturday,
or by appointment. Confession is available after each
weekend Mass through Palm Sunday.)
The Paschal Triduum, Latin for “three days”, commemorates Christ’s redemptive journey through death, burial and resurrection to new life. The Church observes the Triduum as a single event made up of three distinct parts. In accordance with the custom in biblical times, each “day” begins in the evening.
Holy Thursday, April 1, 2021
Morning Prayer: 9:00am
Mass of the Lord’s Supper: 8:00pm (Bi-Lingual) The first day of the Triduum is filled with the action
of Christ’s self-gift. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper on the
evening of Holy Thursday commemorates Christ’s command
that we “love one another”. Symbolized in the washing of the
feet, the great commission of Christ is made concrete in the
Eucharist as well as in Jesus’ crucifixion on Calvary. The first
day of the Paschal Triduum culminates in the solemn veneration
of the cross on Good Friday.
Good Friday, April 2, 2021
Morning Prayer: 9:00am
Stations of the Cross: 11:00am (in Spanish)
Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion:
3:00pm (English) 7:00pm (Spanish)
Diocesan collection: Holy Land The second day of the Triduum is filled with the silence of the
tomb. The solemnity of Good Friday continues throughout the
day of Holy Saturday. The Church celebrates no Eucharistic
liturgy during the day, but silently prepares for the Easter Vigil
celebration in the evening. As Jesus remained in the tomb, so
the Church as a whole awaits the coming of the Lord.
Holy Saturday, April 3, 2021
Morning Prayer: 9:00am (with Blessing of Food)
Easter Vigil: 8:00pm (Bi-Lingual) The third day of the Triduum is filled with the wonder of the
resurrection. The Easter Vigil is the high point of the liturgical
year. The drama of the lighting of the new fire, the blessing of
the Paschal candle and the Easter proclamation in the
candlelit Church set the stage for the recounting of the story
of salvation in the Scripture readings. “Alleluia” once again
greets the Gospel, and following the homily, we celebrate
baptism and the renewal of our baptismal promises. The
Paschal Triduum officially concludes on Easter Sunday, but
the wonder of the Easter Season extends for a full 50 days.
Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021
Masses: 7:15am, 9:00am, 11:00am
Spanish Masses: 1:00pm and 7:00pm
What the Saints say about St. Joseph….
“In these latter times in which a monstrous and most abominable war has been declared against the Church of Christ...we should more efficaciously implore the compassion of God through the merits and intercession of St. Joseph.” —Blessed Pope Pius IX
“There are many saints to whom God has given the power to assist us in the necessities of life, but the power given to St. Joseph is unlimited: It extends to all our needs, and all those who invoke him with confidence are sure to be heard.” —St. Thomas Aquinas, Doctor of the Church
“He (St. Joseph), is the proof that in order to be a good and genuine follower of Jesus Christ, there is no need of great things—it is enough to have the common, simple and human virtues, but they need to be true and authentic.” —Pope St. Paul VI
“I do not remember even now that I have ever asked anything of him (St. Joseph) which he has failed to grant. I am astonished at the great favors which God has bestowed on me through this blessed saint, and at the perils from which he has freed me, both in body and in soul.” —St. Teresa of Avila, Doctor of the Church

“Surely, there will be moments when faith can waver, when it seems that God does not see or act… And it is true too
in these days of global health crisis and great insecurity. At times like these, remember that Jesus is by your side.
Do not stop dreaming! Do not give up! Do not lose hope! From heaven the saints are watching over us. Let us pray
to them and never tire of begging their intercession… Let them accompany you to a better future, a future of hope.”

Pontifical Good Friday collection, which helps
Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the
church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools
and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good
Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred
shrines. The wars, unrest and instability have been
especially hard on Christians. In these times of crises,
the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humani-

Spanish-born St. Turibius of Mogrovejo was a pious youth,
devoted to prayer and service of the poor. Known for his
holiness and wisdom, he was chosen to be a missionary
archbishop for the Spanish colony in Peru. In 1580, he was
named archbishop of Lima, Peru; he then received Holy
Orders and was ordained a bishop. Throughout his 25 years
of missionary service, he labored to build up the local
Church. He convened diocesan and provincial synods, made
pastoral visits around the vast diocese—often on foot, and
implemented clergy reforms to root out corruption. He also
protected the rights of the native Indian people from the
oppression of the Spanish colonists. To better care for the
physical and spiritual needs of the people, he introduced
several European religious orders into Peru and founded
schools, churches, and hospitals. He also opened the first
seminary in the New World and encouraged native Indians to
become priests. He baptized and confirmed many into the
Christian faith, including St. Rose of Lima and St. Martin de
Porres. Feast Day: March 23

in offerings. Please consider what your family is capable of giving. Con-
sider the needs of your family, how the pandemic
impacted your home, speak and pray about it as a family

PENITENTIAL ACT I confess to almighty God And to you, my brothers and sisters, That I have greatly sinned, In my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done and In what I have failed to do, (Pray while striking the breast three times)
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, All the Angels and Saints, And you, my brothers and sisters, To pray for me to the Lord our God. GLORIA Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
(At the words that follow, up to and including
and became man, bow your head) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
