Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family
A Prayer, for the Feast of The Holy Family Father, help us to live as the holy family, united in respect and love. Bring us to the joy and peace of your eternal home. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God The Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God is January 1st and is a holy Day of Obligation. We will celebrate this feast on Wednesday December 31 at 4pm at St. Patrick’s and Thursday January 1 at 10am at St. Mary’s.
World day of Peace
On January 1, the Pope issues a letter on the World Day of Peace. This year the message of peace is concerned with the need to treat each other equally and without judgment. In our country, we have had issues with racial tension which has been explosive. The Pope asks us to consider each other as brothers and sisters. The theme I have chosen for this year’s message is drawn from Saint Paul’s letter to Philemon, in
which the Apostle asks his co-worker to welcome Onesimus, formerly Philemon’s slave, now a Christian
and, therefore, according to Paul, worthy of being considered a brother. The Apostle of the Gentiles
writes: “Perhaps this is why he was parted from you for a while, that you might have him back for ever,
no longer as a slave but more than a slave, as a beloved brother” (vv. 15-16). Onesimus became
Philemon’s brother when he became a Christian. Conversion to Christ, the beginning of a life
lived Christian discipleship, thus constitutes a new birth (cf. 2 Cor 5:17; 1 Pet 1:3) which
generates fraternity as the fundamental bond of family life and the basis of life in society. Pope Francis

“GOING GREEN” ADDRESS OF THE HOLY FATHER POPE FRANCIS
Clementine Hall, Wednesday, 20 March 2013 The Church is likewise conscious of the responsibility
which all of us have for our world, for the whole of
creation, which we must love and protect. There is
much that we can do to benefit the poor, the needy
and those who suffer, and to favour justice, promote
reconciliation and build peace.
In this, we also sense our closeness to all those men
and women who, although not identifying themselves
as followers of any religious tradition, are nonetheless
searching for truth, goodness and beauty, the truth,
goodness and beauty of God. They are our valued
allies in the commitment to defending human dignity,
in building a peaceful coexistence between peoples
and in safeguarding and caring for creation.

Catholic Support for Women’s Equality Act Points to Protect Victims of Domestic Violence Point 7: Creating a pilot program for remote access to Orders of Protection Domestic violence victims in New York State are currently required to appear in court with their abuser when seeking Orders of Protection. Getting to court can be difficult for victims, especially in rural areas, and fear of greater violence can deter women from even attempting a court appearance. Point 7 of the Women’s Equality Act would authorize the creation of a pilot program to allow such victims to testify remotely. We are advocating passage of the 9 points that give credence to every woman’s inherent human dignity as made in the image of God. Diocesan Public Policy weekend, Feb 7-8, will be our opportunity to let our state legislators know of the importance to finally pass the nine points of the Women’s Equality Act that will truly benefit women. For more information, contact Suzanne Stack, Life Issues Coordinator, at [email protected] or 585-328-3210 x 1304.

“Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another.” Bring God’s graces into your marriage. Learn now on an upcoming Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend on Feb. 6-8, 2015 in Canandaigua, NY; for more information visit our website at: www.wwme-wny.org, email [email protected] or call (877) 697-9963.
Wedding Liturgies
Liturgy belongs to the people. Sacraments are
celebrated in the midst of the community.
Some pastors make this a reality by having
weddings during the regular weekend
Masses. Even if they are apart from this
schedule, they are still communal affairs. You
need an invitation to attend the reception, but
not to go to the liturgical celebration at the
church.
