UPDATE ON THE PFHA MOVE TO KENTUCKY

Page 2 POWER GLIDE November—December 2009 www.masondixonpfha.org

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Spring is finally beginning to arrive with the Robins and the horses starting to shed their winter coats! A couple of weeks ago MD got teased with 70degree temperatures and lots of sunshine. I hope everyone has gotten a chance to enjoy at least a couple of the nice days with their mounts. The Pennsylvania Horse Expo was the last weekend in February and probably had a better attendance then the Maryland Expo. I would like to thank Sheri Becker for organizing the Expo again this year and thanks to everyone who brought horses for the demonstrations and who helped man the booth. Though the weather and problems with the farm kept Rick Shaffer from coming and doing the gaited clinic I hear that it was improvised and a success with Nola assisting the other gaited clinician Gary Lane. The next couple of months are going to be busy with many activities that have been included in this issue. They include activities in April, a one day fun show at Ro-No Ranch in Waymart, PA, a clinic with Rick Shaffer in Kintersville, PA. Then in May we have the May Day Show in Dillsburg, PA and then in June the Mason Dixon Spectacular at the Lexington Va Horse Center. We will need class sponsors again this year for both shows and will be offering a sponsorship for both shows as we did last year. Please contact BJ or Lisa for information on the sponsorships. Virginia is doing a great job keeping everyone informed as needed on the PFHA relocation project and everything seems to be going according to plan. The search is on for a new Executive Director and if any-one knows of someone that is a potential candidate please contact Virginia for more specific details. We are really in need of someone to take over the responsibility of managing the ribbons for the shows. The responsibilities include keeping count of the ribbons, ordering the ribbons, storage, getting them to the shows and getting people to help handout the ribbons at the shows. As of this date, the May Show ribbon presenters have been taken care of and we need a volunteer for the June Show to take the ribbons and organize the ribbon presenters. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Lisa or BJ for more details.

Happy Trails,

Lisa

The date for the Annual San Juan Bautista Parade in Camden NJ is 27 June 11 AM - 4 PM. If you are interested in riding in this Parade, please contact Diane Dutt ([email protected]) with the number of people and horses you plan to take. There is also an advertising opportunity for the Event Program (1/4 page add = $75; other sizes available). This is a large, high profile event that will include live media coverage from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Mason Dixon Summer Parade attire will apply. I am hopeful that we can gather more than 10 participants for what promises to be an exciting promotional opportunity for the breed. We will also need a volunteer manure pick-up crew to follow behind the riders. A golf cart and wagon should do the trick. Please let me know as-soon-as-possible if you are interested in participating. Thanks! Diane Dutt, Morning Song Paso Finos 717-993-9686 (h) 267-446-6862 © [email protected]

5 YEAR OLD PLEASURE GELDING FOR SALE

Part of the PFHA transition has been to critically look at our processes and improve them. One such im-provement was the revamping of the PFHA Show Entry Form. Complete one of the new forms, front and back, for each horse that you are showing. You may still use the old form this year. If you have other forms or processes that you would like to change, please let me know.

Editor’s Notes

Hope you don’t mind that I put surrounding regions’ show information in our PowerGlide. At the PFHA level, we are trying to promote unity and common goals. The show dates don’t conflict so we could go to all of them. It’s spring. We should be able to get out on the trails. Please send me your pictures and a short write up. We want to submit articles to other horse magazines besides our own Paso Fino Horse World. Take care, Virginia Foster
