Lisbeth Dineen, Editor
Mashpee Women’s Club Mission Statement: “The mission of this Club is to bring
all women of Mashpee and surrounding towns into a social environment, provide
educational and recreational programs to the benefit of our members, and charitable
programs to support our towns. The Club’s first meeting was December 9, 1997.”
It has been a pleasure to have been the Editor of the Mashpee Women's Club Newsletter for the past seven years! I am so delighted to report that new MWC member, Lisbeth Dineen, has offered to take on the task of preparing the Club's quarterly newsletters. Lisbeth is very enthusiastic about taking over, so I am very confident she will do an excellent job!
Debbie Gasior
I have the privilege of taking over the editor’s reins from Debbie Gasior, who has given of her time for many years to make sure you were updated on the activities of the Mashpee Women’s Club. Many thanks, Debbie, for all you have done to support MWC for so long and for all your help during this transition time!
I am a fairly new member of MWC, having moved to the Cape last October from Pittsburgh, PA. With the sole exception of finding myself -- a Pittsburgh Steelers fan -- living in New England Patriots territory, the move has been all I had expected and so much more! I look forward to getting to know you all better over time, and please let me know of any items you have for publication. Thanks!
Lisbeth Dineen
As we enter our summer months the splendor of Cape Cod surrounds us. Its beauty defies the harsh winter months we’ve left behind. However, some say our lovely Cape Cod hydrangeas will fail to grace us with their accustomed lavish presence.
Both our Bridge and Games luncheon on May 5th and our Golf Outing and luncheon on June 20th proved to be matched successes. Kudos go to Berta Murray and Ceil Sneider for their exceptional planning for the first and to Susan Rego and Maureen Rounds for bringing the golf tournament to a ‘driving fulfillment’.
Our annual June business meeting took place prior to a scheduled fashion show. See the details below. Congratulations to our new officers for the upcoming term!
What followed was an outstanding fashion show and fundraiser. Ports and Company supplied the fashions but our program committee went all out to insure us we’d be delighted with model selection, decorations
Page 2 Mashpee Women’s Club Newsletter Summer, 2014
and raffle items. Posters were printed and lovely centerpieces of sand, seashells and candles filled glass globes were created by Jan Malloy. All (including our 28 guests) thought it to be an outstanding success.
Thoughts are emerging regarding ideas for future fundraising. Our new executive board will soon be creating convincing possibilities to implement. Let’s all give them our unending support.
Terry Herman, President
The 2014 Annual Business Meeting of the Mashpee Women's Club was called to order by President Terry Herman at 12:03 PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. She welcomed the great crowd that had gathered for the annual Fashion Show Fundraiser luncheon!
After saluting the flag, President Terry Herman announced that the month of June is designated every other year for the election of officers. President Terry Herman asked if there were any nominations from the floor before announcing the new slate of Officers.
There being no nominations from the floor, President Terry Herman presented the Nominating Committee's recommended slate of officers for the two-year term beginning September 1, 2014. The Nominating Committee was chaired by Ann MacDonald with assistance from Berta Murray and Jo Newell.
Jean Boundy President Linda Steele Vice President Sigrid Howell Recording Secretary Beverley Edgar Corresponding Secretary Adrienne Guptill Treasurer The second order of business was a vote to accept the new By-Laws. Passed.
Lastly, there was a vote to increase the annual membership fee to $30 beginning in September 1, 2014. Passed.
The Business Meeting was adjourned at 12:07 PM.
Respectfully submitted by Debbie Gasior for Ellie Hysko Recording Secretary

Upcoming Luncheon Programs and Getting
to Know You Speakers*
July 15: Mo’ Mo Band – Be ready for some great Rock, Blues, Pop, and Bop-til-you-drop Originals from one of the Cape’s favorite bands!
In 2013 Guitarist and vocalist, Nils Bockmann paired up with Bill Harr (woodwinds, keyboards, guitar,
and bass guitar) to form Mo’ Mo Band. They have been joined by Billy Hayes (drums) and Sazz Barr-Kuhn (vocalist).
The Getting to Know You speaker will be Bryan Day, owner of Cranberry Collective at Southcape Village in Mashpee (www.cranberrycollective.com/)
August 19: Program details to be confirmed shortly. The Getting to Know You speaker will be Mary Bradbury from Mashpee Leisure Services of the Mashpee Recreation Department (www.mashpeerec.com/info/default.aspx)
September 16: Cape Cod Volunteers – How to be prepared for disasters. Hurricane season is here! Learn what to do to be ready in case one heads our way.
October 21: Details to be confirmed shortly.
November 18: Details to be confirmed shortly.
December 16: Holiday Entertainment
* A segment at each monthly luncheon includes a
five-minute “Getting to Know You” presentation prior

will also provide a brief question/answer period.
Upcoming GTKY speakers will be announced
shortly.
If you missed our last 4 luncheons, you
missed some great events! Many thanks to
program co-chairs Jeanne Garrant,
Maryann Piccirilli, and Jean Trexler for
arranging for these wonderful guests to be
with us and to Linda Steele for arranging
for the informative “Getting to Know You”
speakers.
June: Wow – what a great event! The fund raising fashion show was an unqualified success. Over 140 people attended, and we raised $2,824.69 to support our on-going charitable contributions and scholarship fund.
Many thanks to Ports & Company of Cotuit and Cohassett (www.portsandcompany.com) and Lisa Lynch, Port’s owner and buyer, for putting on a terrific show. And huge kudos to the MWC models who showed off the fashions with verve and panache! See more pictures on our website: www.mashpeewomensclub.org/Fashion%20Show%20Montage.htm

May: Author Jim Butler of Falmouth introduced us to his life’s journey, one of self-determination through adversity described in his book entitled, “Metamorphosis in Black”
(www.metamorphosisinblack.net). It is a compelling story that can inspire countless generations of every ethnic stripe. His message strongly reinforced that in America anyone can scale the heights and panorama of their individual dreams.
April: Members of the Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Network (CapeCodCAN!) previewed for us one number from its then upcoming May production of “Waiting for Oscar”. CapeCodCAN!’s mission is to provide a sustaining program of access and inclusion in the arts for the Cape’s growing population of people with disabilities. It has been proven that such an approach has tremendous benefits to the participants and the community. Thanks to Bill Hurley for his introduction to the great work that CapeCodCAN (www.capecodcan.org) is doing. In addition to this fine program, the “Getting to Know You” speaker was George Bagley of The Write Choice, a stationery and gift store located in Mashpee Commons.
March: We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a musical program from Rossacroo-Na-Loo (www.gigmasters.com/celtic-
band/Rossacroonaloo), a traditional Irish music group formed out of the Irish Session scene on Cape Cod. Traditional Irish music defines the Irish culture and provides an eloquent link to its past. Many thanks to Peig Donoghue (Bodhran), Deb Murphy (Flute), Diane Maranchie (Fiddle), and John MacDonald (Guitar/Banjo) for bringing St. Patrick’s Day and its music to life for us!
8/31/13 – 8/31/14
Thank you to the following ladies who work “behind the scenes”. They do so much to help the MWC – and they do it willingly and don’t get much recognition!
Judy Grodin - Webmistress – Judy maintains the MWC web page and posts updates of any new information. Judy designs the monthly luncheon information for the website sending out emails to everyone that has an email address and also designs the monthly luncheon postcards.
Marge Cleary – Marge works with Membership maintaining the backup database of Membership.
Judy Kimber - Judy mails the monthly luncheon postcards. She helps keep track of “snail mailers”, has postcards printed, makes labels, stamps and mails the monthly luncheon postcards.
Carolyn Holmes - Carolyn calls MWC members to form a committee of greeters for the monthly luncheons.
Sunny Merritt 12/1997 – 08/2002

Fran Giambarba notes that the Memoir &
More I group is looking for two or three
more members. If you enjoy writing and
have been meaning to write your memoir,
there’s no better time than now to join our
friendly and helpful group. Member Gerry
Lynch’s memoir is now in print. Here are
her thoughts: “For years it was in the back
of my mind to write about our years
overseas, and I kept putting it off. When I
saw that the Women’s Club had a Memoirs
Class, I decided this may get me moving. I
joined and I can’t say enough about the
group. They were supportive, and when
they had suggestions it was done
diplomatically. My family is delighted with
the book, and I am grateful to the Memoirs
group for their encouragement and
friendship.”
If you are interested in joining the group,
please contact Fran Giambarba. She’ll be
happy to answer all your questions. Her
contact information is in the directory.
The Mashpee
Food Pantry is
very appreciative
of all the support
that MWC has
provided in the
past. Don’t forget to bring your donated
paper products to our monthly luncheons or
even easier for you, the Food Pantry has let
us know that cash donations
are always gratefully
accepted and in fact preferred
since they are able to
purchase in bulk at a cheaper
cost than we can individually.
Please contact Sue Riley if
you have any questions. Her
contact information is in the directory.
This beautiful Mashpee coverlet designed by our own Debbie Gasior captures the history and spirit of 7 Mashpee images,
3 of which are listed on the National Register, as well as the official Mashpee town seal. Handsome and practical, it is the perfect gift for family members and friends.
The Jacquard coverlet is woven in the USA, 100% cotton, pre-shrunk, colorfast, machine washable and dryable! It measures 48” x 68” and is edged in a sea scallop shells design. The coverlet is woven in the beautiful color combination of hunter green, cranberry red, and Williamsburg blue on a natural background.
THERE ARE ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF COVERLETS STILL AVAILABLE! You can own this beautiful Mashpee memento for only $25, the proceeds of

which go to support MWC charities. If interested, please contact Debbie Gasior. Her contact information is in the directory.
One of the activities offered through the Mashpee Women's Club is the Couples Dining Group. This is a great opportunity to get to know other members and their spouses/partners in a relaxed social setting.
The dining groups are structured in groups of eight - four couples per group. The couples in each group take turns hosting the dinner in their respective homes and each couple brings one of the courses for the evening meal. In this way, the efforts for dinner are shared and it allows most of the time for conversation and enjoyment.
Typically, the host will provide the entree and pre-dinner beverage. The remaining three couples bring the appetizers, the salad and a vegetable or a dessert. The four dinners are usually scheduled between October and June. There is flexibility, however, and at your first dinner, dates may be switched to accommodate everyone's schedule.
If you are interested in joining the Couples Dining Group, space is limited so sign up ASAP! Please contact Laura Kuzia or Janet Molloy (see directory for contact information).
We have had an active solo dining activity in the past and would like to make sure it continues but we need your help to do this!
We are looking for a couple of women willing to coordinate the solo dining activity. The meal could be lunch or dinner, and how often this would occur would be up to the activity co-chairs to set up. They would need to select a restaurant (one that is willing to do separate checks), let the
membership know the details, and coordinate the attendees.
If you are interested, please let Terry Herman or Jean Boundy know (contact information is in the directory).
MWC’s 11th annual golf outing and luncheon was held at the Holly Ridge Golf Club in Sandwich on Friday, June 20. Some 70 golfers participated in a
Scramble format. The weather could not have been more perfect, with sunny skies and comfortable temperatures.
Following lunch, Jean Enright, the Holly Ridge head golf professional, presented prizes to the first and second place winners as well as to winners of the closest to the pin competition. Several participants also won golf-related prizes in a raffle.
1st Place Team: Mary Leyne, Jean Toomey, Mary McGeoch, Nancy O’Donnell
2nd Place Team – 3 way TIE:
Suzi Rego, Julie Bandoni, Nancy Gaudin, Sue Potter
Debby Andersen, Ann Blanchard, DiDi Dilley, Jean Monahan
Mary Fanous, Deb Hyland, Diane Ogasian
We want to extend special thanks to all those golfers who volunteered to walk so that those unable to walk the 18 holes could have a cart.
Suzi Rego and Maureen Rounds

The MWC is continually looking for ways to generate revenue to support our charities and scholarship funds. One area that has
been discussed is our members taking on the task of making the centerpieces for our monthly luncheons. This would reduce our expenditures each month since we currently pay an outside vendor to provide
the centerpieces.
Here’s what we need: Ideally 12 members to sign up to do the centerpieces for one month each. The centerpieces could be floral, balloons, sand and seashells, or something else to fit in with the program theme each month. The number required would vary from month to month depending upon the number of tables, but would be in the neighborhood of 10-12.
This is a great way to let your creative juices flow! And your efforts would have a direct positive impact on our funding of charities and scholarships. Please let Janet Molloy know if you are interested (see directory for her contact information).
Hello – for those of you who don’t already know me, I’m your Corresponding Secretary!
First, I wanted to remind you all that part of my role is to send a card to any member who is sick, or needs cheering up, or who has lost a close family member. Of course, I can’t do that if I don’t know about it and I rely on all of you to keep me informed so if you know anyone who would benefit from this, please be sure to email me.
And now I’d like to introduce a new column in the Newsletter, called “Member Shout-out”. I’m sure there are any number of members out there who perform a worthwhile service in our community, or have a particular talent for something,
and I’m also certain that our members would all like to know about them and recognize them. It may be one-off thing or something they do all the time. So please, if you know someone like that, do let me know. Just send me the details – you don’t have to write the article as I’ll be happy to do that for you.
Of course, we wouldn’t want to embarrass any member who doesn’t want to be publicized in this way so it’s important that you check with the individual first. If you could include a photo of them, that would be great.
So come on ladies, let us know what our awesome members are up to!
Beverley Edgar, Corresponding Secretary

Facebook is a great and easy way to keep
up with what is going on with friends, family,
and interest groups. The Mashpee
Women’s Club is setting up a Facebook
group for its members. Once I get it set up,
we will be sending an email out to all our
members asking that those of you who
participate in Facebook, go to the MWC
page and hit the “Join” button. The group is
being set up as a “closed” group meaning
that only members will be able see what is
posted.
You will be able to get up to date
information on MWC activities right in your
Facebook newsfeed. This will not replace
our great website; it is simply one more way
to keep our membership informed.
Lisbeth Dineen, Facebook Administrator
We continue with 6
book groups with
approximately 70
members. On
Wednesday,
December 10, we will
have our Annual Book Group Discussion
and Buffet Luncheon at the beautiful Sunset
Grille in Bourne. Chip Bishop will be joining
us to discuss his newest book, "Quentin
and Flora". Everyone attending – please
read the book beforehand and come
prepared with questions so that we can
have an interactive experience with Chip.
He will be available to sign members' books
afterwards. The book is very interesting and
written in Chip's personal style. More
details on this later in the fall Newsletter.
