Tim Malone, Principal

Dear Parents,

The new school year has begun and we are off to a great start. We have already had the Creative Writing students’ one-act plays

performance known as “Starflight.” We have had our Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance assembly, where 60% of our students received honor roll certificates and 68 students will receive gift cards for perfect attendance (sometime in December or January).

This month we will be treated to the Beginning Drama production of “Forgiven : A Fairytale. ”The students and their teacher, Mr. Soltus, have been working very hard in preparation for opening night, which will be Friday, October 17th.

English and math teachers are working to prepare their students for district quarter benchmarks in these subjects. If your student is struggling in either of these subjects, please do not hesitate to contact the teacher, the counselor, or myself. Remember, there is math tutoring available every day after school except for Friday. English tutoring will have to be arranged through the teacher.

Communication is always important. is a great way to communicate with most teachers and staff. If this is not working, please notify the office staff so that they can get a message to the teacher for you. Also, please take advantage of the online AERIES gradebook. This allows parents and students to keep track of assignments due, missed assignments, and current grades for almost all classes.

I am very proud of our students, parents, and staff. Your commitment to success and your resolve to see it through is always impressive. Parents, thank you for volunteering to be a part of the many events and fundraisers occurring throughout the year. Your involvement in your child’s education is critical.

Sincerely,

Tim Malone

Thank you to all of our Volunteers!

Hello MCAA Students and Parents, !It’s hard to believe the fall semester is well underway and will be over before we know it! It’s an exciting time of year, especially for our seniors, as there is a lot happening. Below are just a few of the things students and parents should be aware of… !

The California State University (CSU) application window opened October 1st so seniors planning to attend a CSU campus should be working on their applications now. Applications must be submitted no later than November 30th. Go to www.csumentor.edu to apply now. Additionally, the University of California (UC) application is available online now so students can begin working on theirs. The submission window for the UCs is November 1st – November 30th. Late applications will not be accepted. Visit http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu to apply. Out of state and private universities often set their own deadlines and application procedures. Students can come into the Counseling Office for help researching requirements, completing their applications or for any other assistance needed. !Juniors and Seniors who are interested in attending a 4-year university and would like to get a feel for campus life should consider attending preview days offered at several local colleges. These free events are open to all students and give families an opportunity to tour the campus, visit with campus representatives, and learn more about the school. Registration is typically online and should be completed prior to attending. Sacramento State and Cal State East Bay are both having their preview day on Saturday, October 18th and Chico State’s Preview Day is Saturday, October 25th. We are currently looking into taking a group of seniors to the Chico State Preview Day. More information will follow. UC Davis believes every day is preview day. Visit their website for more information about how to explore the campus. !MCAA will be offering 30 juniors the opportunity to take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 15th. The PSAT is an exam geared toward helping students prepare for the SAT, a college entrance exam. Those students who will be taking the test have received a study guide. Please encourage your child to take time to prepare for this important exam. !Important Dates at a Glance: CSU Application Cycle Opens October 1st CAHSEE Make-up Day (Juniors/Seniors) October 7th & 8th

Last Day to Register for the Nov SAT October 9th October SAT October 11th (Must already be registered to take this test)

MEET SOME OF MCAA’s NEW TEACHERS

Scott Buckley/Art Teacher

I was born in Southern California and received most of my Early Education in the public school system on

the tropical Island of Oahu in Hawaii.  After many years in Hawaii I came back to California and

finished the last of my High School years in Northern California.

In college my passions were mainly in the Science and Art fields.  I became increasingly interested in

the profession of Animation.  I studied Animation at San Francisco State, The Rowland Animation

Program in Southern California and finally at The California Institute of the Arts where I Graduated with a BFA in Film and Video with an emphasis in

Character Animation.

After College I worked in the Television Animation Industry for a while, most notably for the television

show Futurama by Matt Groening .  After this I became

an entrepreneur and free-lance artist where I eventually

learned so much about computers and technology that I began to build and

repair computers part time.

Currently, I have begun to teach Art and  am working on bringing animation to Marysville Charter

Academy for the Arts.

Other activities include the Art and Anime Club as well as the Thursday after school  Mural Project

I look forward to teaching Art in the Yuba –Sutter area and giving back to the community that has helped me find and reach my potential in life.

Megan Eichner Careers and Study

Skills !Hello Parents/Students/Families!! It is a great pleasure to be back at MCAA. For the 2014-15 school year I'm teaching Careers and Study Hall/Skills. All information about my classes are posted regularly on my teacher

website and Aeries. Fastest way to get a hold of me is through email [email protected]. I tend to

become immersed in school life; I am currently the Parent Producer for Forgiven, as well as Co-Adviser of

the 9th grade class. !I've been teaching for the last nine years starting in Waldorf, Maryland - Hood River, Oregon - and now

here in Marysville, CA. For Careers we just finished "Me" Projects and will be doing some College Research Activities, Resume/Job

Interview Project, as well as some Personal Finance activities before the end of the semester. !

I am also trying to build a data base of parents willing to be job shadowed. Even if you don't have a child in Careers but would be interested in having a student

learn more about your career please contact me!!

ATTENDANCE OFFICE NEWS Dear Parents: First quarter report cards will be sent home October 23. Please call me when your child is absent or you need to arrange short-term independent study. Also I can assist you if you need information to set up an Aeries Parent Account to check

grades and missing assignments. Sincerely, Brenda  Brown Counseling Secretary 749-6148
