MAY 14, 2017 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not let your
hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust
in me. There are many rooms in my Father's
house; if there were not, I should have told you.
I am going now to prepare a place for you, and
after I have gone and prepared you a place, I
shall return to take you with me; so that where
I am you may be too."
(John 14:1-3)

MAY 14, 2017 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
K E N O S I S
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Thanks be to our Risen Lord Jesus and our Blessed Mother
Mary for the successful East Honolulu Food Festival held last
April 29. They wanted everyone to enjoy the festival and
instead of rain, we had cool weather just perfect for the
event. Thanks a lot for those who prayed. Our common
prayer intention was granted. You will read the report on the financial part of it once
all the transactions are cleared and settled.
Kudos go to our CCD Catechists who prepared our first communicants. Seventeen of
them received Jesus in Holy Communion last May 8. CONGRATULATIONS to you
all and may you grow more each day in the love you have for Jesus in the Eucharist.
Congratulations also to your proud parents.
CONGRATULATIONS to our Early Learning Center for the beautiful Lei Festival
last April 28 and our Middle School May Festival last May 5. Our students gave
awesome presentations! Praise the Lord for all the talents and gifts He gave to our
students. Thanks so much for those who were involved in making these two events a
huge success. God bless your gift of self!
I and Fr. Pat will be joining the priests (both diocesan and religious) working in the
Diocese for our annual Convocation at Turtle Bay which begins May 15 to May 19.
Hence, during those days there will be no Mass in our Chapel/Church, but Communion
service will be led by appointed Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Bro.
Buddy. Times will be the same as when we have regular Masses in the morning and
afternoon. Adoration and evening prayer remain, but there will be no solemn
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. I will remember you all in my prayers and Mass
and kindly pray for the success of our Convocation. Thanks a lot in advance.
I will be taking my one month vacation starting May 23rd. God willing, I will be back
here on June 24th and, hopefully, rested and recharged. Fr. Pat will be in charge of
the Parish during my absence. Do pray for me as I always do for all of you.
Sincerely in our Risen Lord,
Fr. Frankie, SSS
Pastor

MAY 14, 2017 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Our Lady of Fatima
20th Century
Feast Day—May 13
Mary appeared to three
peasant children near
Fatima, Portugal, six times
between May 13 and Octo-
ber 13, 1917, and asked
for prayers for world
peace and an end to World
War I, for sinners, and for
the conversion of Russia.
She entrusted the children with three secrets,
regarding devotion to her Immaculate Heart, a
vision of hell, and a "bishop in white" shot by
soldiers firing bullets and arrows. Many connect
the third secret to the attempted assassination of
St. John Paul II on May 13, 1981; the Pope
thanked Mary for guiding the bullet and saving
him. At the Vatican on October 13, 2013, Pope
Francis stood before the statue of Our Lady from
Fatima and formally entrusted the world to Mary.

SUNDAY SCRIPTURE READINGS:
FIRST READING: Acts of the Apostles 6:1-7 - This reading contin-
ues the description of the missionary preaching and missionary activity
of Paul and Barnabas. For those who follow the reign of God as inaugu-
rated in Christ, these apostles can promise nothing for sure but trials
and hardships.
SECOND READING: 1Peter 2:4-9 - Peter reminds the new con-verts to Christianity, that they must be holy, for they are the liv-ing stones out of which the new spiritual temple of God is formed. The cornerstone, the base and binding force of this tem-ple, is the risen Christ.
GOSPEL: John 14:1-12 - Today’s reading begins the lengthy Last
Supper discourses, presenting several teachings that are repeated
throughout. Jesus attempts to prepare the disciples for His departure
from His mortal life in this world, but assures them that he will return
and take them to himself, promising “where I am you also may be.”
