JANUARY 22, 2017 THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Bishop Larry to Hold MSOS Parish Episcopal Visitation

January 21/22, 2017

By now, you’ve all received a copy of the Parish Pastoral Plan - 2017-2021 distributed this past week-

end in the pews after all the Masses. We are hopeful that you found time to review its contents to pre-

pare for Bishop Larry’s visit this coming weekend. Your involvement as parishioners will help to

equip and inspire clergy and parish leaders to think long term. The Parish cannot become what it

needs to be by remaining what it is but, by adding additional viewpoints and expanding participation

in the planning process, the quality, support and buy in for the plan will be enhanced. Here’s your

chance to be part of that plan by making your voices heard. All parishioners are welcome and will

have an opportunity to dialogue/partake in conversation to share their views with the Bishop after the

10:15 am Mass, Sunday, January 22nd.

What to expect: the Bishop will preside at the 5:30 pm Mass, Saturday, January 21st, and the 8:15 am

Mass, Sunday, January 22nd. He will be preaching at all the other weekend Masses. The Bishop will

also meet with clergy, parish and school leaders, and the youth group at designated times during the

weekend to discuss the Parish’s plans for the future; the challenges we are facing or will face and how

we hope to address these challenges.

Copies of the Parish Pastoral Plan -2017-2021 are still available at the entrance to the Church, or by

calling the Parish Office at 734-0396.

Let us warmly welcome our Bishop who is the Shepherd given us by our Lord, Jesus Christ!

Saint of the Week Sebastian

died c. 288

Feast Day—January 20

According to the many legends surrounding

Sebastian, he was born in Gaul and raised in Mi-

lan. Though a Christian, he joined the imperial

army in Rome about 283. He made converts of

officials and jailers, effected cures, and urged

Christian prisoners to stay strong in their faith.

He was named captain of the praetorian guards,

but the emperor, upon finding out that he was a

Christian, ordered his execution. Shot with ar-

rows and left for dead, Sebastian survived and

was nursed back to life. Later, he denounced the

emperor for his cruelty to Christians, and the em-

peror had him beaten to death. A favorite subject

of Renaissance artists, Sebastian is the patron

saint of archers, soldiers, and athletes.

JANUARY 22, 2017 THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

AN AMAZING CONFERENCE IT WAS!

If you were one of the group from MSOS who attended last week’s HCCRS Charismatic Conference,

you know just how Awesome it was! We were truly blessed to have two very unique, gifted keynote

speakers. Fr. Lou Cerulli shared much valuable information from his “Peace, Freedom & Healing

Ministry.” Fr. John Farao, OFM, Prison Chaplain and Exorcist from Monterey Calif, spoke in

amazing ways to help us discern what is truly from God and what is not. Fr. Mike Dalton, OFM, from

Holy Trinity was also a guest speaker elaborating on the theme: “JESUS, Our Rock, Cleansing

Water, Sanctifying Fire, Arise!” ALL of the talks were extremely engaging , spiritually transforming

and healing to say the least! Some of the topics covered were: Healing in the Eucharist, Healing the

Family Tree, Protecting your home from spiritual darkness, and choosing to forgive others as well as

ourselves. There was a Healing Service on Friday evening, and a fresh Baptism of the Holy Spirit on

Saturday. The three-day conference culminated with a Charismatic Mass celebrated by Bishop Larry

Silva. This awesome conference left those who attended: ON FIRE FOR JESUS, FEELING THE

JOY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, and READY TO EVANGELIZE!

Fr. Lou Cerulli is giving additional talks on the outer islands.

He will also be celebrating the monthly Healing Mass at Holy Trinity on Wednesday, January 25, at

7:00 pm. All are welcome to join us!!

Holy Father’s Intentions

January

That all Christians may be faithful to the Lord’s teaching — to

restore ecclesial communion and by collaborating to meet the

challenges facing humanity.

February

That all those who are afflicted, especially the poor, refugees,

and marginalized, may find welcome and comfort in our

communities.

March

That persecuted Christians may be supported by the prayers

and material help of the whole Church.

Gentle Reminder to Parishioners

SUNDAY SCRIPTURE READINGS:

FIRST READING: Isaiah 8:23—9:3 --This reading is another

prophecy, concerning the messianic days, given by Isaiah in the eighth

century B.C. It describes the new era of liberty and joy, which the future

Messiah will usher in.

SECOND READING: 1Corinthians 1:10-13, 17 -- The second

reading is from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians 1:10-13,

17. St. Paul corrects the Corinthians for the pride that was causing them

to form factions and divisions.

GOSPEL: Matthew 4:12-23-- This Sunday’s Gospel invites us to

remember that our personal vocation is founded on God’s original and

absolutely free choice. His invitation towards us, therefore, is an invita-

tion to make a final decision to let Him conquer or re-conquer us to

mark a turning point in our lives. Let us ask the Lord, for us and the

whole Church, for the gift of a true conversion of our hearts enabling us

to receive Christ as the only Light to follow. Christ is the only one that

really dispels the darkness within and around us.
