Reflections from Father Derek Prayers and songs help stir our hearts to love God more deeply and more fully. I thought I’d share a few that have been helpful for me. Let us seek to prepare our unworthy hearts to receive the Christ child anew in these final days of Advent.
Sincerely yours in Christ, Father Derek
Advent Hymn- O Come, O Come Emmanuel O come, O come, Emmanuel And ransom captive Israel That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appear Rejoice! rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel. The Angelus (Concluding prayer) Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel. May by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen. Prayer from Michael Augustine, Archbishop of New York, 1897 Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary… at midnight…in Bethlehem… in the piercing cold. In that hour, promise us, O God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.

Dear Friends, I want to thank all of you who have been a part of my various ministries at MSW over these past 31 years. I have been so very privileged to work with you as teens, parents, young adults and parishioners. Together we have celebrated the love of Jesus Christ in Teen Masses, Teen Retreats, Beloved Retreats, Family of God Retreats, Young Adult Retreats, volunteer opportunities to serve those in need, Baptism Ministry, Coffee & Conversation gatherings, Younger Adult-Ministered Masses and Fellowship, Dinner for Two, and the myriad of other faith formation gatherings we’ve shared. Thank you for your time, energy, and support, your collaboration, your prayers, your friendship and your commitment to Mary, Seat of Wisdom’s teen, young adult and faith formation programs. You have been the hands and hearts of all we were able to bring about. As I retire, January 1st, I keep you and Mary, Seat of Wisdom Parish in my heart and in my prayers. Peg Barry Director of Young Adult Faith Formation
A Special Message to MSW Parish

gratitude for her loving service to MSW.

Houses of Paper, and Houses of Dough...Watch Our Gingerbread Villages Grow! Ms. Meghan Garby and Mrs. Carla Calcagno are helping their PreK-4 students prepare for Christmas. The children made paper gingerbread houses. Each house was provided with a bright red door and then the children decorated their house with elf and candy stickers.
For little fingers, the practice of peeling and pasting, of cutting and gluing helps improve small motor skills and their ability to control the muscles in their fingers and hands. Learning can be fun! The week after Thanksgiving, the school’s Extended Day Program hosted a gingerbread house project for interested students. The opportunity was offered to all MSW students, not just those signed up for the after-school program. There was lots of interest!
Students spent the afternoon session piecing their gingerbread house together and then decorating it, each in his or her own imaginative way.
Though socially distant while working on their projects, the children enjoyed being able to watch each other as the houses became more intricately embellished. Each child took home a special creation for all their family to enjoy!

Rose for Life A MSW Respect Life Ministry Activity This week’s Rose for Life at Mary’s shrine is donated by Mary Beth Poli in loving memory of her mother, Christine Boccio, on the anniversary of her 100th birthday. This week’s Rose for Life at St. Joseph’s shrine is donated by Sandy Bosy in loving memory of her father, John Peska. To honor Mary, our parish patroness and St. Joseph, Protector of the Holy Family, single long-stemmed roses will be placed at both shrines each week before the weekend liturgies. The roses symbolize the Church’s respect for life at all stages and the hope that abortion will soon be a thing of the past. Each week, two roses are dedicated to loved ones by families or members of our parish. If you wish to donate a rose, please call Becky Roller at 847-825-1353. A donation of $5 is requested per rose.
