MARY OF NAZARETH “IN HASTE”
A couple of week ago, Father Bob in his homily talked about Mary going in “haste” to see her cousin, Elizabeth. He also mentioned the shepherds went in “haste” to see the “infant lying in a manger” as foretold by the Angel. Sister Diana found this image of Our Lady in “haste.” As we begin this new year let us all go in “haste” to see the revelations God has in store for us!

Chapel of Mary of Nazareth Mary of Nazareth leaves “in Haste” (Lk.1:30) to visit with St. Elizabeth to share her joyous news of Divine Motherhood. The life size statue was blessed and crowned by Pope John Paul II on September 13, 2000.

THE SACRAMENTAL LIFE OF OUR CHURCH THE SACRAMENT OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS Saturday: Vigil - 5:00 PM Sunday Schedule: 8:00AM 10:00AM
12 NOON 5:00 PM Weekdays: Monday through Saturday: 9:00 AM Holy Day: See Schedule in Bulletin
COMMUNION TO THE SICK is taken by Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist on a regular basis to those confined to their homes. Please call the Parish Center.
THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM is celebrated on most Sundays at 1:30 PM (not during Lent). A family must be registered in the parish, attend the baptismal preparation class, and cooperate with the regulations established by the parish. Our baptismal class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 8:00 PM. Please call the Parish Center to register any time during your pregnancy.
THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION is celebrated on Saturday between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM in the Chapel or by appointment.
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION is celebrated once a year by the Bishop’s delegate, here at St. Augustine. A candidate must successfully complete our Religious Education program. Adult Confirmation is held on Pentecost Sunday and any interested adults should contact the Parish Center.
THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK is administered at home to any Catholic who is seriously ill. Please call the Parish Center. Any parishioner admitted to a local hospital should contact the Catholic Hospital Chaplain through the hospital. A family member should contact the parish when someone is admitted to the hospital. We will gladly pray for any members who are sick, whether at home or in the hospital, at our Sunday Masses; however, it is necessary for the family to “request” it.
THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY is celebrated by the Pastor or one of our deacons. Weddings may be scheduled on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon. Only a ceremony is permitted on Sunday. The pastor will confirm the date so couples should contact the Parish Center at least ONE YEAR in advance. All the necessary information will be sent to you. The attendance at Pre-Cana or an Engaged Encounter Weekend is required. One must be a registered member of the parish. Our parish upholds the Gospel values and the Church’s teachings regarding the sacredness of marriage and those couples choosing to live together in contradiction of those values, will receive a simple ceremony and all Diocesan regulations followed.
THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS and RELIGIOUS LIFE: If you are considering serving God as a priest, deacon, or religious, you may contact your parish priest, deacon, or religious; or phone the Diocesan Office of Vocations at (732) 562-1990.

Lighting Hearts on Fire
The Diocesan Year of Spiritual Renewal 2018-2019
“To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” 1 Corinthians 12:7
St. Paul tells us that God has blessed each of us for a reason. How has God blessed you? Are you using your gifts according to God’s plan? How are you helping to build God’s kingdom here on earth? Remember that if you don’t do the work God planned for you, no one else can do it. Live the life God has intended for you, feel His love, peace and joy!

MEDITATION FOR JANUARY 20TH, 2019 The Lord has betrothed Himself to us in Christ Jesus and we are not abandoned. The wedding at Cana has Jesus at the heart of the celebration. He is present now as we gather to celebrate. Here today he bestows upon us His blessings and His gifts-bringing forth faith and reassuring us of His fidelity and abundant grace.
In relaying the words of the Lord to Israel, Isaiah uses the image of a marriage to
describe the relationship between God and his Chosen People. Saint Paul reminds us that the Spirit gives many different gifts to be used to build up the community. The Gospel tells the story of Jesus’ first miracle-turning water into wine at the wedding feast at Cana.
REMINDER The School and Parish Center will be closed on Monday, January 21, in honor of Martin Luther King Day. Also, there will be no 9 AM Mass or Eucharistic Adoration at 7 PM on Monday.

Letter from your Spiritually Adopted Child 3 Happy New Year! By the end of January, I will be in utero for three months (12 weeks)! I weigh only one ounce…I am tiny but I already make facial expressions resembling those of my parents. My movements are vigorous but graceful. I have vocal chords and can open my mouth and press my lips
together. I am having lots of fun kicking, curling and fanning my toes, moving my thumbs, bending my wrists and turning my head. Life is great! I have learned the most wondrous thing…I can smile. I cannot wait to meet my mommy and daddy so I can show them my sweet smile. Thank you for your prayers-you are my angel on earth. With love, Your little one If you would like to pray for a child in crisis….please contact Donna Canvin at [email protected] or 908-420-3760.
KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR PARISH OFFICE
Are you new to the area? Are you a registered member of the parish?? Are you moving???
If you have recently moved into the area and have not yet registered in the parish, we encourage you to become a registered member. You may do so in a variety of ways: you can ask an usher for a registration packet after Mass; by stopping by or calling the Parish Office to obtain a registration packet. Once registered, you will receive quarterly mailing of parish offertory envelopes.
The use of an Offertory envelope helps us to track Mass attendance which affects your status as an active or inactive parishioner. Mass attendance, not the content of the offertory envelope, is reviewed twice a year and a letter is sent to those who have not used their envelopes in a specified time period.
It is necessary to be an ACTIVE, REGISTERED member of the parish in order to obtain Sponsor Letters which are needed to act as Godparents for Baptism or Sponsors for Confirmation. Sponsor letters cannot be given to those considered inactive (or not registered). We also ask that anyone seeking to be married in our church or to baptize a child be registered in the parish. If you are moving out of the parish, please contact the office around the time of your move so we may change our records accordingly and avoid sending you envelopes you don’t need.
Any questions, please call Liz at the Parish Office, 732-297-3000.

The second collection next weekend is for the Foundation for Catholic Education, which provides scholarships to financially-deserving children attending a Diocese of Metuchen Catholic elementary or high school. Over 100 deserving children are enrolled in one of our schools today thanks to your generous support of last year’s collection. Hundreds of families, hoping to give their children the gift of a Catholic school education, will seek financial assistance from the FCE Scholarship Program for the 2019-20 school year. Your gift will send a child to Catholic school, changing a life forever! Please be as generous as your means allow.
