27th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 4, 2020
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
As you read this we have completed the celebra ons of the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirma on. It has been a challenging me for those who received the sacraments and for their families. May God con nue to bless you, guide you and strengthen you. May you open your heart to God’s love for you and accept the help God wishes to give you.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Margaret Zola, our Religious Educa on Coordinator, Carol Schulz, RE Assistant, our RE teachers and classroom assistants who have done a wonderful job in preparing the children for the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirma on. I would also like to thank the volunteers who sani zed the church a er each sacramental celebra on, the Knights of Columbus for helping with ushering and parking, Cathy and Alfonso for the music and a big thank you to Aidan Gould for our post communion hymn at First Holy Communion.
Volunteering at our Parish As I write this I realize the many people that give of themselves in service to others, week in and week out. With us now back to our regular Mass schedule and with the number of weddings and bap sms becoming more and more frequent, plus funerals, I would like to make an appeal for more volunteers to help. The work is not difficult but very necessary and with a number of events planned for the near future, e.g., Our Lady of Guadalupe celebra on in November and with all the extra Masses for Christmas, we will need more people to assist us. Please contact the office and leave your name and a contact number and we will reach out to you about mes that suit you.
Right of Chris an Ini a on of Adults We have launched our RCIA program and have two candidates to date. If you or if someone you know is thinking of becoming a member of the Catholic Church or were bap zed but never received any other sacraments, or if you have been away from the Church for quite awhile and would like to come back but feel that you don’t know enough about the Catholic faith, then the RCIA program is for you. You will receive a very warm welcome from our support team and they will give you all the support and help you will need. Please call or email the office and leave a message for Nick, Maria or Pa y and they will get back to you and answer any ques ons you may have.
Family Prayer Time/Holy Hour Our Family Prayer Time con nues on Monday thru Thursday from 7-8 pm. Please join us as we take the me to gather as a parish family and pray for the needs of each other. It is also an opportunity to have some quality quiet me, down me, me me and most importantly, me with God. If you have someone that you would liked prayed for please contact the office and we will include them in our Family Prayer Time.
My thought for the week: You are God’s chosen race, his saints; he loves you, and you should be clothed in sincere compassion, in kindness and humility, gentleness and pa ence. Bear with one another; forgive each other as soon as a quarrel begins. The Lord has forgiven you; now you must do the same. (Col 3:12-13)

Celebration of Masses at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish
I am delighted to say that we are back to our full weekend mass schedule at both worship sites (see the updated Mass schedule, including additions, in the front and back of this bulletin). It is so reassuring to see so many people wanting to come in
person to celebrate the Eucharist. Along with our weekend masses we have daily Mass at St. Mary Church at 12.30, Monday-Friday and 9.30 am Mass at Holy Assumption on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. As we move into the winter we are ending the ‘Drive-To Holy Communion’ at both worship sites effective Sunday October 24/25 . If you are uncomfortable with attending a weekend mass, please consider a weekday mass. If you still feel uncomfortable with attending a weekday mass due to an underlying illness or because of mobility issues and would still like to receive Holy Communion, please contact the office and we will arrange for Holy Communion to be brought to you at home.
May God continue to bless you, your family and all you hold dear to your heart, and keep you safe and forever in God’s loving care.

The good news of this Gospel is that all we need to do is let God tend us and bring us to produce good fruit. All we need do is be faithful; God will take care of the rest.

A Message from the Bishop World Mission Sunday October 18, 2020 The annual world wide Eucharistic celebration for the missions and missionaries around the world falls on October 17th and 18th this year. Pope Francis reminds us that especially in this year of crisis, we are called to bring Christ’s love to those most forgotten, our brothers and sisters in need around the world. Through the Pope’s own missionary society, our parishes are able to be sent out to all the ends of the earth through their support of missionaries and those they serve. Your very needed gifts sustain priests, religious, and lay pastoral leaders in more than 1,100 mission dioceses in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and part of Latin America and Europe. The Diocesan Mass for World Mission Sunday will be held in St. Jerome’s Church, Parish of Our Lady of Hope at 11:00 am on October 18th. With gratitude for your generosity to the Missions in October and year-round, Most Reverend David M. O’Connell, C.M., J.C.D. Bishop of Trenton
Best wishes to Rich Mercantini as he begins his new employment with the Township of Bordentown. For the past twenty-plus years Rich has taken care of the buildings and grounds at the St. Mary, Bordentown site, and more recently the Holy Assumption campus as well. We acknowledge with gratitude his many years of service and dedication to our parish and wish him well in this new venture.
We are also pleased to announce that in addition to leading our music ministry, Alfonso Gonzalez will be taking on the responsibility of caring for our buildings and grounds at the parish.

We continue to pray for all of them as they continue their faith journey. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES BEGIN OCTOBER 4, 2020 All families who have a child registered in our Religious Education Program were sent an email with important information on the way we will be handling classes with the remote learning format. You should also be hearing from your child’s catechist welcoming each of you to our 2020-2021 catechetical year. For everyone - catechists, students and families, we wholeheartedly welcome you back not only to class but to Mass as well. We have recently added the 11:30 am Sunday Mass at St. Mary Church back into the schedule which will now make available six opportunities to attend Mass in person during the weekend (check the back page of the bulletin for times and place). Your first week’s assignment will be to attend Mass, hopefully in person, or on-line (if you are still not comfortable with attending). Also, the RE text books should be picked up at your convenience this week during one of the scheduled pick-up times (dates and times were included in the email sent). If you have not yet received this email from our office, and have registered your child for Religious Education for this year, contact us via email or phone to verify that the email address we have on file is the most current. 2020-2021 REGISTRATION - There are still some families who have not sent in their registration packets for this year. Please complete the required forms and return as soon as possible. VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION! Please consider volunteering. We have a wonderful program for Catechists, Aides and Hall Monitors. The success of our program is dependent on the willingness of individuals to help out. All volunteers need to be fingerprinted and attend a “VIRTUS” Safe Child workshop before being allowed to volunteer. (Fingerprinting and VIRTUS information can be found on our RE website.) Volunteering is a rewarding ex-perience to share your faith with our parish youth. High School and College age volunteers will excel this year since we will be going digital – this is right up their alley.
Though many, we are one bread, one body, for we all partake of the one Bread and one Chalice. 1 Corinthians 10:17

SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI (1182-1226) - October 4
When Franco Zeffirelli’s Brother Sun, Sister Moon was released (1972), people were shocked by the movie’s graphic nudity in the dramatic conversion scene. Son of a wealthy merchant, Francis’ aimless adolescence ended when a failed military expedition led to his imprisonment and complete breakdown. Once home, Francis rediscovered God in the beauty of nature and the ugliness of human suffering, caring for lepers, praying in the little church of San Damiano, whose crucified Jesus he heard calling, “Repair my house, Francis, which is falling into ruins.” Francis sold his possessions—and his father’s—to fulfill this command. When his father objected, Francis disrobed: “I return the clothes, your name, and all you gave me: God alone is my Father now.” Later, the pope would dream of a ragged friar stretching forth a single hand to prop up the crumbling papal Cathedral of Saint John Lateran. Francis indeed helped rebuild the universal Church, founding the Friars Minor (Franciscans), dying at a young forty-four, bearing the stigmata of the Christ whose living icon he remains—in the Church and far beyond it. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

The church is facing a “man crisis”. One in three Catholic men that have been baptized have left the faith. The Knights of Columbus produced a hard-hitting video series illustrating the gravity of our duty as Catholic men in today’s world. Click on the link to view the videos.
